Who will be crowned the ODI World Champion?

Chris Gayle just needs 20 runs to get pass Brain Lara and become highest run scorer in a ODI career for West Indies

But if those teams end up with equal points, then how can you say that one was more consistent than the other?
Consistency doesn't comprise of wins alone. It also involves the margin of win. Let's, for argument's sake, say England and Pakistan had ended up with the same points. Do you truly believe Pakistan, in this case, should qualify on the basis of their head to head record even though you would agree England had a better WC than Pakistan? That is what NRR portrays.

Same no. of wins but separated by how dominant were those wins.

I don't have an issue with NRR per se, just how it works when teams are bowled out.
And about margins, again i'll refer you to the tweet i posted i few pages back about the Aus-NZ group stage match from 2015. NZ won by 1 wicket, but got +3.5 in NRR, while Australia got -3.5

I think they should go back to the 2015 format of 2 groups (group A and Group B) and have 7 teams in each group so we can have a 14 team world cup.

Absolutely not. This is the best format and what should be maintained. I have barely any interest watching India vs Namibia or whatever.

The only change needed, is to have roof's and a playoff system and not semi's.

You clearly need time off from PlanetCricket. :lol

Not until the World Cup final :) Let me give you my cents here. England/Australia are going to win this World Cup. England chances are more than Australia. Imagine center stage, two arch-rivals England vs Australia will face each other on the Finals with England winning the Cup and that soundtrack to which English Crowd cheers with beats. "Hay Hay Hay" :) :)

Let's wait and see then we can debate further

What if Sarfraz wins toss and bowls first? Hows that? :p

Meant Bowls

Urge everyone to see Shoaib Akhtar's video on the ENGvsNZ game. It is comedy gold!! :lol

Yeah Plays off will be good or even Quarter Finals will be good as well, But still I rather have the 2015 style world cup because having more teams in the world cup is better but it's just opinions I guess.

It's the one which he says that the Quality of cricket has gone down compare to the 1990s and 2000s.
I kinda Agree with him that cricket back then was great but now it's mostly a batsman's game and if you compare bowling I think we had some quality bowlers back in the days.
I think they should get rid of this free hits, 2 bouncers per over in ODI, in T20 I don't mind but not ODI.
He also said Pakistan got no one to blame but themselves which is true...so it's not comedy but kind of true

LMAO!!

Cricket keeps changing from era to era. Yes, we must respect the people who played in the past but it gets irrational and outright stupid when people who played in the past behave as if things are really comfortable and rosey right now. I'll break it down to you-

I'll name five bowlers to you who have performed better than Shoaib Akhtar did in all his world cups in this World Cup itself. Starc, Cummins, Bumrah, Shakib, Boult, Shami, Archer, Wood, Plunkett and I can go on and on. I certainly don't remember ever the likes of Bond, Lee and Akhtar bowling 155 regularly. The speed is very much there in the form of the bowlers I mentioned and they are ten times more accurate and team men than Akhtar ever was.

Let us come to quality of cricket now-

1) Fielding- I don't think you will find a domestic team of the current test sides that field worse than the international teams of the 90's. That is how much fielding has improved. The catching these days is just outrageous and catches that were spectacular in yesteryears are now par for the course.

2) Batting- While I agree, pitches have definitely become flatter, batsmen are these days far fitter and more bulked up to smack those big sixes. In the previous generation, you would take a lot of time to figure out a batter but these days you just don't have room to hide. If there is a weakness to your game, you will be found out very quick and you need to reinvent a whole lot sooner than earlier. I think it's rubbish to say that batter of an earlier era would have made 550-600 on these tracks. Great batsmen are great batsmen. If the previous one's were in today's era they would have found a way to score faster and if today's batters were in an earlier era, they would have made the necessary adjustments to be great then.

3) Bowling- I think death bowling, variety in bowling and the sheer pressure on bowlers these days to keep picking wickets is much more than before. I have seen so many bowlers picked because they were economical in the 90's it's hilarious. As I said, crafts require skill in all era's and it's equally difficult at all times. As resources have grown, so has the pressure. Shoaib Akhtar would have retired ten years earlier if he received the social media abuse PAK cricketers of today receive.

To finish off, his accent along with his broken vocabulary and self praise is so cringeworthy that it's hilariously pathetic.

I agree that Players now a days are a lot fitter then before but that don't mean they are better.
You telling that players now a days are better then Wasim Akram, Brett Lee, Tendulkar, Lara, Shane Warne etc?
I just think now a days bowlers gets punished for even bowling a no ball, it's more of a batsman's game now,
That's why I will always rate Sachin Tendulkar over Virat Kohli because Tendulkar had to face Bowlers like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Brett Lee, Glenn Mcgrath, Shane Warne, Chaminda Vaas etc.

Shoaib Akhtar is know to be fastest bowler in the history and that is a big achievement and got 247 wickets in 162 innings, he was just unlucky that he had a lot of injuries or else he would have been fantastic.
As for his English well who cares because it is not his first language.

Before the WC I said Pakistan won't win the Cup and now you see them already eliminated. Back then you criticized my post but that is what exactly happened. Mark my words India would do a lot better in Semi-finals as compared to other ICC tournaments from 2014 to 2017. Also even if we go back again to Edgbaston to play England in the Semi-final you would see a different kind of performance from them as compared to the previous match. Again something to add, England wouldn't win this WC 7/10 times !!!
