I usually enjoy reading her pieces on Cricinfo even though sometimes there is a bias involved in her writing especially from the quota perspective. However, I feel that she has summarized the situation pretty well in this article.
One interesting bit that I found from the article was the quote that came from AB. He said "There is no comeback. I'm very, very happy with where I'm at in my life. I don't want to confuse anybody, especially not the [Proteas] team. It will be very selfish and arrogant of me to throw statements around that I'm keen to play a World Cup."
I think he ended up doing this exact thing and even though only the captain and coach knew about it. Imagine being in position of someone like Rassie van der Dussen who took AB's position in the WC squad. He has performed very well leading up to the WC and now suddenly when the WC squad is announced, he finds himself out of the squad for a player who has retired from international cricket. Again, I don't have a problem with this had AB not retired. Selection in international cricket should not depend on fairness and the best players should be selected. However, if the player has retired and has said himself that he is happy with where he is in life and doesn't want to confuse anybody, I don't think I can put the blame on the CSA board for taking the decision that they did.
