It looks as though the australians are too desperate to find a Flintoff - can they not recall that they have dominated world cricket for over a decade without one? And do they not remember that they've already tried all of these potential all rounders, and they have been exposed as being all-round average? Ludicrous!

Couldn't agree more, Watson against the likes of Akhtar, Flintoff, Murali etc.. should be interesting, i dont think Watson is all that special to be honest. He will never be a great all-rounder - such as Flintoff and Kallis, unless he improves his game drastically.

Inzy's always struggled agasint the aussies, his stats agaisnt the aussies dont look good, he struggles with warnes bowling, he is not that fit for cricket, he dont run that fast, he dont bowl, and he cant field. I'd pick vaugahn over Inzys captaincy.

Yes i know im probably pretty biased when i say that, but I think that its ridiculous that Michael Vaughan was not picked over Inzamam, and therefore replacing Graeme Smith as captain - after all Vaughan has just captained England to victory over Australia, something that hasnt been done since Mike Gatting - and in my opinion Vaughan is a way better captain than Smith. Also the stats back up that Vaughan should be picked in the World XI squad

MICHAEL VAUGHAN
Career Batting: (Runs - 4513, HS - 197, Ave. - 43.81, 100's - 15, 50's - 13)
vs Aus: (Mat - 10, Runs - 959, HS - 183, Ave. - 47.95, 100's - 4, 50's - 1)
in Aus: (Runs - 633, HS - 183, Ave. - 63.30, 100's - 3, 50's - 0)

INZAMAM UL-HAQ
Career Batting: (Runs - 7620, HS - 329, Ave. - 50.80, 100's - 22, 50's - 39)
vs Aus: (Mat - 13,Runs - 784, HS - 118, Ave. - 34.08, 100's - 1, 50's - 6)
in Aus: (Runs - 493, HS - 118, Ave. - 35.21, 100's - 1, 50's - 3)

I also belive Kumar Sangakkar should be in the test squad instead of Mark Boucher, as he is not only a better bastsman, but he is jsut as good of a keeper if not better than Boucher, and he can 'keep to Murali.

Sangakarras the best/wicketkeeping batsmen in the world today he should play in the test, and give McCullum the gloves for the odis.

I hope you mean best wk/batsmen behind Gilly :D
McCullum should definitely be the keeper in ODIs. He has shown he is a very good lower order batter. Especially if you are chasing a total.

I'd rate Gilly and Sangakarra the same, but Gilly has the edge, they am just 2 class batsmen who can sluaghter any atack on thier day.

Couldn't agree more about the Wicket Keeper comments. A lot of fantastic batsmen got left out. I also can't say I agree with the captaincy but we will see how it goes.

Wow. A strange piece of news just appeared on Cricinfo.

Inzamam snubs Super Series

PTI

September 26, 2005

Inzamam-ul-Haq has refused to represent the World XI in next month's Super Test against Australia, after an apparent mix-up in communication with the Pakistan board.

"The Pakistan Cricket Board had given me an understanding that I would be in both the World XIs (ODI and Test)," Pakistan's captain, Inzamam, told the news agency PTI on Monday from Lahore, "but till today, they have not conveyed to me about my selection. I have already read my selection in the newspapers."

The Pakistan board announced that Inzamam would be in both teams on Wednesday, but two days later the ICC said that he would feature in the six-day Super Test squad only, and as a replacement for Sachin Tendulkar at that. He was omitted from the one-dayers, with the ICC instead naming Chris Gayle and Rahul Dravid as replacements for Sachin Tendulkar and Herschelle Gibbs.

"At this stage of my career, I deserve respect and nothing else," said Inzamam. "I am not pleased at all with whatever has happened. Having played cricket with respect and distinction, I don't deserve this at the fag end of my career."

He added that if he was not representing the World XI in the Test match, there was question of him participating in the Captains Conference and 2nd ICC Annual Awards. "I will not go to Australia for just one match. I have not conveyed my decision to the cricket board and there is no need for this because they have not yet communicated to me about my selection."

I agree that Inzamam should've been in the first XI for the super series but I'm not so sure if this is the right way to react. He has had a wonderful career thus far, I just hope he doesn't let his pride ruin it for him.

And I fully agree with this. There is a limit of embarrassing of such a great player.

Inzamam was denied a spot in the first selection, although he was selected for three nominees. And when he was selected for an injured player he was only handed a place in the Test squad. It's really embarassing.

Actually there was some miscommunication with the PCB and ICC, which isn't written in the article, that PCB actually thought Inzamam would be selected for both Test and ODI matches. But later on ICC Inzamam selected him only for the Test squad and Dravid for the ODI squad.

I don't know what the f*** is the problem here. Is Inzamam's ego getting too big too? Is he getting notes from Ganguly now? This is completely stupid and uncalled for.
"At this stage of my career, I deserve respect and nothing else," said Inzamam. "I am not pleased at all with whatever has happened. Having played cricket with respect and distinction, I don't deserve this at the fag end of my career."
Who the hell does he think he is anyways? Yes he played very well especially over the last year and he probably SHOULD have been in the World squads to begin with, but is this the way to behave? Like a bloody petulant three-year-old who didn't get his favorite treat? Have some grace and decency, for f***'s sake! Have some empathy for the selectors, its obviously not easy selecting a best XI even for any single country, let alone when you are choosing from the whole world's best players. If he had shown up even for the Test match alone, and played with distinction, then that would have been the biggest riposte he could have given to those selectors. Instead he decides to sulk at home now because he demands to be in the ODI squad too. Ganguly has (IMO) scraped the bottom of the slime pit now but looks like Inzi might be heading there soon. If I had my way I would just tell the organizers to drop Inzamam's invitation altogether and tell him he is not welcome anymore. There is no doubt that he is a great player, but he should BEHAVE like one too. And BTW that goes ten times more for that idiot captain across the border.
