ODI - Ind V WI at Eden Gardens, Kolkata

India after winning by huge margins in last two tests is now set to take on WI in their first ODI of the season. It is a 50 over match. The conditions which will affect the match a lot and the result of the toss are as follows:

India have again fielded a lineup with three spinners:

And here's the West Indies Lineup:

West Indies came out blasting...Gayle and Hinds were in a real hurry and poor Irfan Pathan didn't know where to bowl...thankfully his new ball partner Murali Kartik had better luck with the pitch and after bowling a splendid maiden first over, he snared Gayle who was looking to hoist him over the Long off...the very next ball he bowled Sarwan...a great delivery first up...snippets:

But Lara looked set the moment he faced the first ball. Here he pulls Pathan to another four:

India's abysmal fielding didn't help the cause. An example:

But in his impetuosity Lara forgot to gauge the flight of one Bhajji spinner and missed it completely. The ball didn't miss the stumps though.

The game hangs in balance at the first drinks break - after 16 overs. A few graphics to show the facts:

West Indies have scored 262 all out in 44.4 overs...it was an odd day for Indian bowlers...they bowled well at times, got hit at others and then there was a huge no of byes that D. Karthik let go through his gloves...He needs to improve a lot to stay in the side...an improved Parthiv Patel is waiting in the wings...and of course Dravid's always there...

The first important thing to happen after the 16th over was the wicket of Hinds...he was batting well but was given LBW to a leg spinner that had pitched way outside his offstump and turned sharply

Sylvester Joseph looked good but was beaten a lot by Indian spinners in flight. Here he misses one big turner.

He couldn't last long as a mi**** pull was brilliantly caught by Sehwag

Chanderpaul didnt look very aggressive...He was run out...

And Browne simply missed a straight one from Tendulkar

Dillon was brilliantly caught by Harbhajan Singh of his own bowling.(My first C&B)...

ICC Champions Trophy hero Bradshaw couldn't do much as he fell to dismal calling and was run out

Dwayne Bravo who played a chanceless innings of 46 finally gave a chance and Murali Karthik grabbed it with both hands...

Indian Bowling - a good show but that economy rate has to come down

India have won the match emphatically - by 5 wickets and with 18.4 overs remaining. They rode on a breezy century by the little master - Sachin Tendulkar to win the match very easily. The West Indies bowling was not all that bad but Sachin after that huge 561 in the Kolkata test hit out and got his century in 70 odd balls - slower by his recent standards. Well let us take a look at the Indian innings:

Virender Sehwag was looking his own self and was playing too dangerously to stay for long. He cover drov Dillon straight in the hands of the cover fielder.

Ganguly too made the same mistake.

Yuvraj got a reprieve from a similar situation when Lara put him down:

On the other hand Sachin was quickly making the required runs. He reached his 50 in quicktime:

Yuvraj showed good signs as long as he was there. A beautiful glance of Bravo being the best of all:

But he too couldn't last against some good spin bowling by Gayle. His impetuosity got the better of him and Bravo did the rest:

Rahul Dravid threw his wicket in the most uncharacteristic way. Ran down the pitch to his Gayle over covers but found that he had missed the ball completely.

Meanwhile Sachin reached his century in style, with a beautiful flick off the legs and bisected the two fielders placed deep on the leg side perfectly.

Kaif was playing fluently and reached his 50 in due time.

And suddenly India found themselves within two shots of the victory. Sachin tried to hit one of those but missed the ball completely to be bowled by Gayle.

But D. Karthik did the needful and victory was secured. A few emotional pics:
