India Team Discussion

SAF have always been the favorites simply going by the teams they have. And its the same in this world cup !

Its hilarious how people are discounting SAF as one of the contenders for the cup based on history !! Because according to history, NZ have no chance of winning the cup either as they have this knack of faltering in the knockout stages. Very much like SAF :)

I can reply in better way but I will move on for some better and quality discussion in this thread .

and no one with half a cricketing brain would pick SA as champs over AUS or NZ

I have at least three quarters of a brain, and I know they've ever chance over and above India.

Now India had already qualified for the qualifiers i think :) Now they must win all the remaining matches and should be on top

We have as good as qualified for the QF. What I dont like much is that the media and many members are putting across that India would not want to face Aus/ NZ in the knockouts. This attitude has to go. I remember a similar discussion being put up during the last World Cup as well wherein we were facing Windies in a match that would determine who would play Australia. Its not only the media guys but we also have stalwarts of the game putting forth the same opinion.

NZ have been labelled underdogs in the past editions of the world cup whereas SA were always amongst the favourites. To me this is the weakest side from SA to play in a world cup. We have seen they cant perform under pressure in the game against India, and there doesn't seem to be a self belief amongst the SA players that they can win this cup.

Exactly my point - NZ were underdogs before, now they are favorites. Why ? Different team and different times. So you cannot make sound logic based on historical data, when this SAF team is quite different from the ones that choked.

And one bad day against India doesn't mean much in a tournament as long as this :) Moreover, who says you need to be the strongest team to win the world cup.

Thats why I posted earlier that this is perhaps the weakest SA side I have seen in a world cup, that being said I expected them to whip India but it didnt turned out that way, choke or not and its various interpretations, SA just did not perform under pressure against the Indians.

Since I've been following cricket Aus the strongest team won three world cups in a row, the first two editions of the world cup were won by the strongest team at the time Wi. Yes you dont necessarily have to be the strongest team to win a world cup as India showed in the last world cup but corruption aside you would expect 9 out of 10 times a favourite to lift the trophy and we go into the books South Africa have always dissapointed, NZ have always been underdogs but made it to the semis now they have an exceptional side so most of us will expect them to win it, Australia are right up there with them on one hand while South Africa and the other teams are on the other!

The one who handles the pressure well will win. No matter how many superstars you got. There are no favourites and never will be . A bad day in Knockouts and Aus/NZ will be out because they wont be playing against a Mediocre side.

As Williamson sensed the importance of his wicket yesterday and kept his cool and Won the match for his team.

^^ I dislike this uncouth behavior usually, but honestly a lot of these "journos" these days seem to deserve it. Although apparently this particular journo dint deserve it because Kohli mistook the guy for someone else (LOL ?)

Does anyone know what was this article that had Kohli flying off the handle ?

Agreed, paparazzi for Team India, after all they are revered as celebrities to the Indian public and diaspora, akin to the Kardashians of the Western world, lol.

However it makes them look really bad, and has been occurring, this bad behaviour since they arrived in Australia. Its high time someone like Ravi Sastri have a talk with them, then again he had his controversial moments also!

I found this statement funny for a few reasons;

- A lot people were incorrectly saying England playing 10 tests vs AUS in 2013/14 was overkill and sign of the big financial teams now just wanting to play each other and ignoring the financially weak

- This wasnt the case, but it was rather an example of England learning from their the 2002/0, 2006/07 and 2010/11 tours of Australia where they realized a full AUS tour before a world cup is madness and too taxing on players.

- India in this new ICC "Big three" takeover tried to think they would gain advantage giving that now have CA on their side by playing a ODI series before W-Cup - but instead the BCCI as Shastri said wasted their time and energy with that tri series.

First of all, hats off to your persistence - always managing to sneak in snide insults for the Indian cricket team, in every single post :spy

Regarding the behaviour in Australia. It has been very disappointing and unnecessarily boorish at times. Ofcourse it doesn't help when the opposition has guys like Warner, but its about time such behaviour was reprimanded with strict actions - bans instead of silly little fines

I seem to disagree with Shastri on one small point - in a World Cup year and that too just few months before the WC, I found the test series to be a sheer waste of time and I found the tri-series to be great WC prep. India could have easily avoided an energy sapping test series and could have instead focused on playing ODI's in prep for the World Cup. If CA had put their foot down saying that they wanted the traditional test series during their prime time, then India could have backed out and let other teams play while India played XYZ country in multiple ODI series.

With all the focus on the upcoming WC, that test series lost quite a bit of its traditional importance. India knew that if they did well in the WC, they would not mind even a 4-0 result in the tests. So there goes the importance.
