Personally, not in favour of Dravid taking this up. I would have been happy if he were to take charge of the Indian tam post the CWC2023. That ,is actually the time when the likes of Sharma, Kohli and other seniors fade out. Jay Shah's insistence that the senior crop will fade out over the 2 years spells doom for the future of cricket in our country.
In terms of foreigners, seems that Hesson was the 1st choice until recently- that is, until when Kohli stepped away. To Moody, the eternal bridesmaid would have been an excellent choice as he has proven his skills over and over again with many countries/ IPL teams What baffles me is the BCCI overlooked these two and instead asked the likes of Jayawardene and Ponting directly. I mean, if you want to approach a coach on the basis of the IPL performance, why not talk to Stephen Fleming?
Excellent choice!
My major worry though is with the succession planning at the grass root level. Dravid and Paras have done an excellent job at this level. Who will take over from them? Ideally, the BCCI should've hunted for a replacement here first, than focussing on the main team. The main team could have been handed over temporarily to anyone. Gavaskar, Shastri and Lalchand have done it in the past. Heck ,Ganguly could have taken over the reigns for the NZ series.
Appointing the coach of the national side seems a bit fishy cause the entire process has been rushed.
