India tour of England 2018

I don't think Dhoni would confine in Shastri for his life decisions. I don't think apart from Kohli anyone really cares he's the coach.

As for his retirement? I'm still confident he's the right man for the job at 4/5 but he himself knows best. The one thing MS won't do is harm Indian cricket. He knows DK is more than ready and very experienced. After his brilliance in the IPL I truly felt he would bat higher up the order. I don't know what to say really. A tour that began with so much promise is now looking like a proper dressing down come the test matches!

At least Dhoni won't be to blame for that. Bhuvi is a big big big loss.

If rumors are to be believed, MSD might call time on his ODI career soon. Although I do not think he will do it so close to the WC, I wouldn't be surprised if he does it too. The amount of negativity he has had to endure over the past week is baffling. I'm not oblivious to the decline in his batting prowess, but I also believe that if he thinks he is not fit to be in the playing XI, he will be the first person to make that tough call.

I'm not really a superfan of MSD but I think he has earned a right to decide when it's time to move on. He did that with his Test career and that in itself should be enough to make us realize that he knows what's he is doing. But if Raina is able to find a place in the team, I certainly place MSD miles above him.

With respect to the series, I stand by what I had said earlier. A series win in the Tests is a distant dream. The ODI series proved just that. What say @zimrahil ?

It was only 3 odi games, and it’s a 5 test match series in dry conditions. I personally think the series could be close which would be good for cricket (as long as England win :p)

While you do have a point, it's also true that India isn't high on morale at the moment. Add to it the lackluster performance in the practice game, things are not looking bright for them whereas England have everything going for them at the moment - the most important being Root back in form and Cook among runs.

On the other hand, India have Pujara and Vijay struggling, Dhawan playing short innings of no substance, too much reliance on Kohli, a new keeper in DK - the list goes on.

Should Dhoni bat 4? Look how overconfidently he answers! Where is Dhoni batting now?

oh ok you have convinced me, 4 or 5 nil to England it is then :D

We all know whilst the above are pointers, it's amazing how often things can be different come day 1 of first test. The unpredictability of sport at times make it more fun to watch. Lets get the first couple of tests out of the way and re-assess then and see if your doom and gloom predictions are proven or not :p

Alright then, here's to a fiercely contested series :cheers

*puts up a brave front*

Dhawan should not be a part of the XI to start with. Vijay and Rahul are and should be our first choice openers, more so since we are playing overseas. Personally I am not in favor of Hardik Pandya playing in the test XI, but the first test at Edgbaston is likely to be helpful for seamers with grass cover and all. If its a seaming wicket with almost no help for a spinner, Hardik should play instead of Ashwin. If the wicket is flatter with the possibility of more help for spin, Ashwin should play. I rate Hardik and Ashwin's batting skills on the same level (in fact you could even say that Ashwin has slightly better batting skills for test cricket than Hardik). Kuldeep starts a certainty in the XI and should be the first preferred spinner.

This would be my ideal XI for the first test

Vijay
Rahul
Pujara
Kohli
Rahane
Karthik
Hardik/Ashwin
Ishant
Kuldeep
Yadav
Shami

Good choice but India never play in England without Ashwin.
My dad is 94 years old, he says' when India returns to India after test series 3 players test career over and one of them will be Hardik pandya'

My Playing XI for 1st Test-

Vijay
Rahul
Pujara
Kohli
Rahane
Karthik
Ashwin
Kuldeep/Pandya
Yadav
Shami
Ishant

Playing Hardik Pandya is like conceding an own goal. He can barely justify his spot in limited overs!!

This is my side-

Rahul
Vijay
Pujara
Kohli
Rahane
Nair
DK
Kuldeep
Yadav
Shami
Ishant

Every test series we make the same mistake of playing too aggressive too soon. I'm playing the extra batter and if I find that they're in nick then I'm going for Ashwin or another fast bowler depending on conditions. But, later in the series. No need to put yourselves under pressure from Day 1. It's 25 days of cricket. Hardik Pandya is neither a bowler nor a batsman ffs.

India vs Essex -4 day game starting tomorrow.Live audio at
BBC Iplayer Apps.i will provides link, later on with teams.

Pandya
Nair
Pant
