India tour of Ireland (2 T20Is) & England (1 Test, 3 ODIs & 3 T20Is)

Known for being best suited in limited overs . No one would've thought of Pant being a test player . And now he is dominating the purest format of the game . Just the opposite . That's the beauty . That's life . Test cricket needs Pant ....:love::love:

Pant gone now time for tailenders to give free wickets to England.

He does it a lot, both in practice and in game situations. He's always trying to play cricket on the limit - guess this is an example
Just like pant. On days it pays. On days it doesn't.

I appreciate this mindset. Specially in today's age where test cricketing is losing the hype with the masses. Players like these bring the spice into what generally is just a pale contest during most of the 90 overs in a day .

Papa Bairstow after watching Pant's innings:

Extraordinary stuff from both Pant and Jadeja! Literally resurrected the Indian innings from the dumps! After how messed he mentally became after that captaincy stint in IPL with CSK, this was a pretty stellar comeback from Jadeja! When his mind is free of leadership burden, he flourishes.

And that Pant innings was mighty special. Really loved the way he tore into the England bowling. If India win this one, this could be possibly tagged an 'all time special knock'

While I do appreciate the sentiment of simplicity in this the truth is that Rishabh Pant was already a monster in the Ranji Trophy averaging above 60 at a very high strike-rate in a Delhi side that did face decent opposition. Extraordinary numbers for a rookie keeper. Calling him a player who wasn’t initially suited to the longer format is a bit disingenuous when he clearly demonstrated even back then that he was indeed best suited for red ball cricket. He was lucky in that the current incumbent was chronically injured and his replacement was hapless for him to receive his deserved chance but he happened to be in the right place at the right time and took full advantage.

Fully expecting our media and fans to run amok with this without actually looking into the real facts as usual.

Stokes for me has often been the player to break a key partnership with the ball or be at one end of a match changing partnership with the bat somehow. I’d love to see a statistical analysis that shows how often he does make an impact in this manner. Maybe get one of Cricinfo’s numerous blokes on it. Could market it as Big Impact or something.

Remarkable recovery there. Thanks to our middle-lower order - again. Kind of wonder why our top 4 struggle so much. Yes, conditions ought to have eased up as the day passed when Pant-Jadeja were batting, but you're tagged as a specialist batsman for a reason.

S.Iyer, I feel will and should be made to sit out of the Test arena. Teams will employ the same tactics and until he has worked a way around it, it would be good for him to stay off the white jersey.

While we did recover, I feel with the tail out there we won't be adding more than 10-15 runs. Would love to see Jadeja get another 100, he might have to slog to it. 400 would have been a terrific 1st innings total, especially after what the score was earlier, but I guess you can't everything.

Looking forward to some exciting day 2 play.

Root 100 incoming

Pant continues his glorious run in Test matches. His run of form in the longest format has been stellar and can be slotted in as the primary keeper there.

It is , however the shorter formats that seem to be a cause of concern for Pant at the moment. Given the variety of options, I'd be okay if they leave out Pant for ODI and T20 in the near future.

STAT: 338 runs - most runs for India on the first day of a Test in England
Previous most: 324/4 at the Oval in 1990

And to add to this stat, we lost 17 overs yesterday.

This speaks of how paramount was yesterday's partnership between Pant and Jadeja. The duo not only saved India's face, but instead put us in a settled position vs England. That was quite a turnaround.
