The South Africans showed no mercy. Towards the commencement of the 30th over, Smith and Devilliers began to pile the runs off the overs of Sreesanth and Tendulkar, smashing them for boundaries. Smith scored a spectacular 76. But even after his dismissal, the onslaught did not stop and the Indians were relieved when the 50 overs came to an end, with Devilliers at an unbeaten 86 and Gibbs at an unfortunate 49.
