Indian Premier League - General Discussion

CSK has been the most successful IPL team because they prefer experience over talent. Look at that squad, they have 80% experience and 20% talent. And by the time next season arrives those 20% would become experienced while 20% of experienced players off the 80% would be dropped from the team in the auction. That has been their startegy for years.

The advantage is that, the captain need not tell them how to play. Since they are experienced, they only need the backing and confidence from the captain which MSD will give them. They no need to be thought about the game, they already know their game.

MSD is playing today despite not being 100%. That's a risk that I wish he does not take. I know he is doing it because this is the last home game for Chennai this season and he does not want to disappoint them by not playing, but I am sure Chennai fans are going to be disappointed if this leads to MSD missing games in the WC.

That's a little over blown. CSK almost never gives an opportunity to that 20% in order for them to become "experienced". They pick the 80% who are experienced and only play those guys for 98-99% of the time. Their strategy of picking experience over talent despite the age factor, has surprisingly worked for them but its not a strategy that will work for most teams. Their talismanic captain is a main reason that this aged side is performing like this.

I have a feeling that this could be Watson's last IPL. With a big auction expected to happen next year, I dont think CSK will go for him again. And I think CSK have maximized their returns on Watson as he won CSK an IPL last year. He has already announced retirement from BBL few days back. Maybe he will announce the same for IPL after the tournament is over.

We can't be sure about it. Morne Morkel had said that he was retiring for some personal reasons and no longer wants to play Professional Cricket and now he is back at the County. There are many players who retired and came back and performed even better than what they used to do so. Maybe he would want to continue even after this season. And to be frank he hasn't been in that poor form but is actually unlucky to get out most of the times. Even today he was unfortunate

Amazing end, Amazing END!! Just see how CSK plays when the man is back in the XI. And the man himself plays like this? WOW! Just WOW!

Even with dew around, 179 on this wicket is going to take some chasing. With Harbhajan, Tahir and Jadeja around and Delhi having built a team for non-gripping and non-slow wickets, this is going to be a challenge for them.

The problem with Watson is - his gameplay is in direct conflict with the kind of pitches his home team gets at Chepauk. Since you play 50% of your games at home, Watson's game is hugely affected when he bats on gripping/slow/turning wickets. Last season, only one game was at Chepauk and the rest of the games moved to Pune where the pitch was more suited to Watson's liking. This season, Watson has duly suffered a loss of form and the pattern is tough to look away from.

Nothing to take away from Watson's exploits for CSK, but I think the time has come to thank Watson for the work he has done and let him go. He doesn't bowl, he is not a great fielder anyways and mostly fields at slip. Cant see Watson continuing with CSK beyond this season.

Prithvi 'Sehwag' Shaw plays like Sehwag and goes out exactly the way the big man used to go.

What a contrast in the gameplay between these sides in the Powerplay! CSK struggled big time, and DC have set a big platform here despite losing their openers!

Get the feeling that Tahir is going to be crucial. If he has a bad game, CSK will most likely lose.

WOW! 89/8!! Hope CSK wrap this up within 100 runs and boost their NRR. MI can get to 18 pts and DC can also get to 18. If that happens, CSK need a big boost to their NRR to ensure they stay in Top 2.

If DC finish on 100 in this match, their NRR will drop to -0.092, while CSK's will go up to 0.205. Hence important for them to stay through and score as many as they can here... could prove to be crucial if it comes down to NRR for the top two spots."

:cheers:clap

If MI wins both of their matches, DC wins atleast 1 and CSK loses to KXIP then CSK won't make in top 2. So it's still difficult to say anything as of yet

Don't honestly think SRH will win today. No Warner coupled with Kane's poor form and a middle order known to fall like 9 pins, I expect this to be a cakewalk for MI.
