Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Khaleel Ahmed is in good wicket taking form this year with 17 wickets in just 8 games.

SRH have just left it to destiny. It's weird that they had a run to the final last year without Warner and Bairstow, but this year with Warner and Bairstow, they're struggling to make it to the playoffs. They need to find a solid Indian player who can captain their side throughout the season (so that this guy is a solid backup to Kane). Bhuvi showed that he did not have their skill. Good for them that Manish Pandey came into his elements but that was too late for them (I am guessing, since I feel KKR will make it to the Top 4 now).

Delhi got a win there, but they must now be praying that CSK and MI seal up the Top 2 spots so that Delhi can play all their playoff games in Hyderabad. I am sure they will find Hyderabad pitch more to their liking and even with an extra game that they've to play, they can back themselves. And CSK vs MI for Qualifier 1 will be a perfect match-up. The only team to have a wood over CSK, both in IPL history and at Chepauk, is MI and it'll be worthy of a Qualifier 1 where the losing team gets a second chance. Hope the results go well tomorrow to setup this clash.

Eliminator and Qualifier-2 is to be played in Vizag. Only Final is in Hyderabad. So all of them are low scoring ones for Playoffs this time. Hyderabad and Chennai both surfaces are unpredictable so might be there we might see big scores but Vizag isn't a great venue for a T20 games as opposed to One-Day games where there is 300 being scored there time and again

The form of Jadhav is even more of a case to get Pant instead of Shankar in the WC side.

So Punjab after winning 4 out of the 6 games manages to win only 1 in the remaining 7 games - similar to what happened last year.

This is turning to be some innings from KL Rahul - literally played with Harbhajan Singh and the field Placement.

For the 1st time in 11 years a team with as less as 12 points will be qualifying for the playoffs. In all previous where minimum 8 teams participated least points required to qualify were 14.

Get the feeling that MI will win the title this year and continue the trend of winning titles in odd-ending years (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019). The batting looks good in all fronts, the bowling looks perfect. It will take a special performance to beat them.

I'll be happy if CSK reach the final but I will be surprised if they win the title. They will lose the final for sure if they make it there. If the final was to be held in the original venue of Chepauk, I'd have backed CSK in the final. But at Hyderabad on flat batting conditions, CSK spinners won't get purchase and the seamers have been cold this season. If NilayShah's comment is true, I feel DC will lose the Eliminator in Vizag to Hyderabad who have better spinners and a batting lineup that can play the slow conditions. I feel it will be a MI v CSK final with MI clinching it. Again, purely my guesses!

Looks like it's still not avenged :p
We have done what was required. Beat them to not get those 2 points. But luckily for them, NRR saved them. :p

TBH I would want DC to win the Final. They performed so well this year and over and above that they are a young side and many people including me wrote them off but right from the first match they are putting on consistently those strong performances and it's been actually tough to beat them once they are on song. You make them believe they are there, they will keep hurting you

I feel DC will lose the Eliminator in Vizag to Hyderabad

Not to forget they have also got a wildly leg-spinner in Amit Mishra and their bowling is still very capable with the likes of Morris, Mishra and few others

But at Hyderabad on flat batting conditions

Don't really think so that Hyderabad is a flat wicket at all. It is one of those most unpredictable pitches where you are never sure what's coming up for you. In 2017, MI only put up 129 and won the Final by actually defending such a small score. It's a slow wicket where you need to be patient and be smart enough to know when to go for the big hits

What a superbly paced knock by Mandhana

Best match up for Qualifer 1. MI rule the overall record against CSK and at Chepauk. However take a closer look and CSK lead 4-3 whenever they faced MI in a playoff match. My mind says it will be MI, but my heart always beats for CSK.

My CSK XI for tomorrow would be this

F Du Plessis
M Vijay
S Raina
A Rayudu
MS Dhoni
D Bravo
R Jadeja
M Santner/S Kuggeleijn
D Chahar
H Singh
I Tahir

Rest Watson. Vijay had a good game against MI at the same venue this season. Bring him in for Jadhav. I am torn between Santner and Kuggeleijn. I would personally go for Santner who is a better bat and had a great game against MI at Chepauk this season. But having him means we have 4 spinners in the lineup which could be a luxury. Kuggeleijn can bat too and importantly gives a seaming option to partner Chahar. Either one of these two are better than Watson and should play.

Bravo is the most important player today. If he bowls well then MI would be under big trouble. If in case MI bats first and doesn't lose any wickets till the 10-12 over mark then it's going to be very difficult for CSK to comeback. If Dhoni comes in to bat anywhere before the 14th over or until the required run-rate goes up to 14-15 runs per over he is going to fire for sure. Looks a close contest but I expect it to be a one-sided affair in either team's favour
