Indian Premier League - General Discussion

I'm sorry, I disagree. It's one thing to be in the way unknowingly but to do so with the intent of blocking it is not right. I did not watch the replay but if Mishra did it on purpose then the correct decision was made.

He did change his direction on purpose to get in line of the throw and as a result got hit by the throw - absolute obstruction of play, without a doubt and as per the new rules, the correct decision was made

I don't understand this "state" players should play for their own state. It's not Ranji trophy. If, that is someone's inclination, Ranji trophy is very much on TV. Kohli is nothing like a Karnatakan or Bangaloreite but that's now his identity. Dhoni I can argue then should have played from KKR, since that's closest to Ranchi. IPL is not Ranji trophy. Once a franchise adopts a player and once a player has served for a franchise and makes a living off them, they become inter-twined. It's not just a case in point for cricket, but also for sport in general. I think, more than being from a certain state, it's about the journey one embarks on with a franchise.

I have to agree with this. This is not Ranji Trophy. Its a franchise based league which just happens to be named after cities. Half the fans do not follow certain teams for their city/state allegiance and instead follow their favorite star players. I am sure if you asked people to say the first word that comes to mind when you CSK, no one is going to say Tamil Nadu and most of them would say Dhoni.

And if teams were to go out of their way to get "LOCAL" players, then it defeats the purpose of having auctions. Why should a team spend more than required just to get these supposedly local players? Why should CSK get into a ridiculous bidding war with KKR to get DK when there are a dozen other capable wicket keeper batsmen they can fetch for half the price (considering MSD is not in the picture). It throws a spanner in the whole economics and strategies surrounding the auctions.

Finally, this is a national level competition which is already giving a great window of opportunity to domestic players, regardless of their region and this aspect needs to be celebrated. This whole local players debate is very silly during times when the world is becoming smaller and celebrating diversity

On the subject of Mishra’s dismissal, there has been a rule change a long time ago that if a batsman changes direction in line with the stumps to prevent a ball from hitting the wickets, it is regarded as obstruction of field.

Infact I have apologized to him quite a few times as well. I still agree I was at fault for what I did but to be honest it wasn't anything personal. I just had a view and I just conveyed it to him. There was no such intention of hurting him. Listen @aditya123 please comeback. We need your valuable experience and insights. They are being missed over here[DOUBLEPOST=1557465218][/DOUBLEPOST]I once again apologize for what I did

Anyone else here rooting for DC to win the IPL ... would be quite nice to have a brand new champion

Right from the start I have been doing so. Since the first match I saw in them that they had improved a lot. Rishabh Pant, Colin Ingram and Kagiso Rabada all impressed me lot. And I knew that Prithvi Shaw would contribute towards the team in some way. And players like Dhawan stepping up was a big advantage. Shreyas Iyer as a Captain has been absolutely spot on !!!!! Infact he along with Ashwin and Dhoni are Captains of the season for me.

I am not rooting for them (tough to do that when they face CSK), but I wont be disappointed at all if DC win today and move ahead to the final. They have a good bubbling group of players and have been spreading positive vibes through this IPL season and it would be great to see them in the final.

It'll be a better final to see DC face up to MI.

Yes. Shreyas has really blossomed this season as captain. Looking back, it was a masterstroke decision to appoint him captain midway last season when Gambhir relinquished it. He has the required body language and the confidence to lead his players through. If he keeps his head in the right place (i.e. don't get sucked in by the fame and popularity), he is a potential star India captain in the waiting.

We have Prithvi Shaw as well for the future Captain's role :yes

Especially after how they have been able to turn around their entire campaign from last year when they were at the bottom of the points table. I really don't see them winning against Chennai but I will be delighted if they go ahead and win this game. I think Delhi-Mumbai finals will be very competitive and looking at Delhi's record against Mumbai, it will be fun to watch that game.

P.S. DC have been able to overcome Delhi curse which has been the highlight for me this season.

Pressure on CSK! What should’ve been 138 odd is now 148. Hope Watto comes to form today. Tough chase!

Some of the trolling here is unbelievable. Unbelievable.

A mega final in prospect. Hope, CSK lift it.
