Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Is it just me or does anyone else feel that CSK are massive underdogs going into the final?

P.S- Dhoni's daughter is just ADORABLE!!

Don't think so. CSK usually step up when it matters the most. And it's the Final of IPL.

Another MI vs CSK final :facepalm. Really don't care who wins as a MI supporter would really want them to win but was rooting for DC this season to go all the way.

Dominating win for CSK there and I am very happy to see them win!! Felt weird in a way that for the most part of the chase, didn't feel any pressure because I did not expect CSK to win. And it was based on the logic that the openers have not been in form, especially Shane Watson and they have put a lot of pressure on the middle order and I expected the wheels to come off today. Well luckily for CSK, Watson rode through the tough parts initially but Faf Du Plessis set the platform with that brilliant knock at the top and Watson just fed off of it.

Mumbai are not like other franchises. They aren't intimidated by the "CSK factor."

Man for man, MI is the best side by a mile. But, I'm not totally ruling CSK out. 90/10 Mumbai!

90/10 wow

Sounds like a case of reverse jinxing

Because how can anyone brush aside the MSD and CSK factor in an IPL final. CSK have it in them to win. Their players fire when the chips are down. Watson out of nowhere produces a big impact innings after struggling through the tournament

I would go ahead and call it 50/50

Moreoevr it's T20 so one show of individual brilliance can end the other teams chances then and there

I hate reverse jinxing and all that tosh Jacko. It is my honest view.

I have long stated that MI is the best and most balanced IPL side. The emergence of Bumrah and Pandya as world class cricketers completely tilts the competition in their favour.

Think about one thing, do we think Pandya or Bumrah would go less than 15 crores in an auction today? They're paying 7 for the best bowler in the world and he's an Indian to boot. It helps their purse massively which helps their balance. Honestly, they should be winning a lot more than what they do with the side they have. CSK is more optimisation of whatever they have.

Just my opinion. Respect yours. I expect a stroll for MI.

I have also put my vCash where my mouth is. :lol

Had me a nice wager on MI in February itself.

MI will definitely start as favorites tomorrow. You give them a batting pitch, they’ve the resources. You give them a spinning pitch, they have the people, same for a seamers track. And Bumrah-Malinga bowl tight on any track without any leeway.

I’d call it 70-30 in MI favor. One thing I’d give some weight on CSK side apart from the huge influence of MSD is that tight bonding factor and the comfort environment where these guys thrive. Hope that translates into a tight game. I’m happy with where CSK have ended. Punched way above their weight as usual like last year.

I wouldn't say intimidated, but definitely motivated. Kinda like an Indo-Pak clash but, of course, with a lesser impact. They just seem to play a different game when pitted against CSK.

And given that CSK also find another gear when playing in the IPL, I do not expect it to be a one-sided affair.

Mumbai are the clear favourites for the finals. They're pretty much the only team that doesn't falter to pressure that seems to affect most other IPL teams regularly. Just like CSK sticking with Watson throughout the season, MI have constantly backed Krunal and Pollard even when they've been out of form for a while now (barring a few cameos). They've got a similar steady and strong foundation like CSK, and have better or nearly equally good players.

This might sound strange, but I feel that CSK really need Thakur to bowl well tomorrow given that he's the third seamer. Going in with just 8 overs of reliable pace versus a team that has the likes of Yadav and Pandya ready to feast on spinners doesn't really sound like a good idea. Thakur's performance might be the key difference for CSK's bowling.

I dont think Thakur should even play tomorrow. The way he just bowled one over and was taken off, suggests that he won't play tomorrow. Either they bring back Murali Vijay or play Dhruv Shorey (depending on the wicket) or they should pick Mohit Sharma in place of Thakur. I dont know why CSK did not try KM Asif for any game this season. Could've prepared him as the backup seamer since they've lost confidence in Thakur.

I wouldn't pick Thakur either unless there's no other option, and there isn't. Mohit's played just one game so far, and Asif hasn't even played one. Also, I feel like going with only two pacers tomorrow would be basically letting MI have one hand on the trophy. De Kock apart, all of their batsmen are quite good versus spin and batsmen like Kishan and Pandya are absolutely ruthless versus spinners.

CSK have landed themselves in a tricky spot here. They can't even bring in Kuggeleijn because their 4 overseas spots are taken and can't be changed now (Watson, Faf, Bravo and Tahir). They can't drop Harbhajan, they can't drop Tahir, they can't drop Jadeja. Only possibility is like yesterday where they either bring in a pacer and weaken their batting (Thakur/Mohit in) or they bring back their extra batsman (Vijay/Shorey) and play only one pacer.

MI clearly are the better side for tomorrow and should run away with the trophy, except if they run into a few streaks of brilliance from CSK (like what Bravo did in that opening game of IPL 2018) if CSK has to defend its trophy.

Star studio have Ashwin and his KXIP coach Mike Hesson as experts today.
