Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Can't deny the fact but football is going absolutely awesome with the transfers based on money, yeah it'll require a lot of money to play a part and we don't have that much in cricket.

The thing about MI is our owners try to buy back the core and spend in almost 60% of the budget in that, 2021's auction - let's see what's up for grabs.

To be fair you've picked the wrong sport to illustrate your example as football is rife with complaints of money being concentrated only at the top and with competitiveness at an all-time low across Europe. :p

Saw this on cricinfo - I know MSD has a genius cricketing mind and believes in players and CSK backs them to no end which gives them confidence to perform, yada, yada.

But this is just awful for a player coming in at no.5

He had a worse strike rate last year and no one noticed :lol

Might surprise people but there was one Ambati Rayudu who was worse than him in terms of aggression. Jadhav had his complaints last season too but victories masked over that. I still maintain that Chennai's final appearance last season may have been one of the greatest performances in T20 cricket for that very reason, all that they had for batting was a MS Dhoni in the twilight of his career with the occasional supporting performance from Raina/Faf/Watto while Tahir and Chahar did their damnedest best with the ball. To lose in the final by only one run with that squad showed Fleming and Dhoni's strategic nous at it's peak.

I just felt something about Samson this IPL

His first 2 matches clearly show why he needs to be in the Indian side but the other 4 matches actually show why he hasn't made the team till now. He has got to produce something now with these consistent failures.

I am totally agree with you in this matter. I don't understand why a genuine talent like him, don't give justice to his own potential. Mental Health is very important. I think, lack of mental health is killing him from inside & that's the reason of these consistent failures.

RR - Drops Tom Curran for leaking 12-13 rpo in each match and picks Andrew Tye

Andrew Tye - 4-0-50-1

Yesterday's loss can be attributed to Jaiswal. Guy uses 5 overs of the first 10 and scores less than run-a-ball putting pressure at the other end (Butler/Smith/Samson were casualties)

It's a little harsh but it kind of looked like he was playing for his spot rather than the team.

If Manan Vohra is part of RR and he's not playing, it's a bit of a sham.

Selecting Andrew Tye in 2020 when you've got alternatives is a decision that should guarantee you defeat. He is an extremely overrated pacer at the top level who has become one dimensional. Spot on with Jaishwal, his style seems to be playing like an old school ODI opener and he needs to expand his style of play if he wants to be considered a serious prospect. At his age with the potential he has I have no doubt that he will improve a lot but right now it does seem like Vohra deserves a shot given his more aggressive style of play which will be important in a team that isn't filled with hitters until the lower order.

As for Samson, there is a reason why I've never ever included him in any of my potential Indian XIs ever. He is a boom or bust player and we already have one such player in Rohit. In addition, our issues are the top three collapsing and the rest of the batting lineup failing. In that situation Samson would just turn it into a top four collapse rather than play a good knock. To illustrate my point, his last ten non-50 IPL scores read
  • 5(9)
  • 0(3)
  • 4(3)
  • 8(9)
  • 5(8)
  • 28(13)
  • 48*(32)
  • 22(15)
  • 0(0)
  • 35(19)

You could extrapolate this and you would always have the same result. A couple of big performances, a string of single digit or low double digit scores and a few starts that he fails to convert into anything substantial along with the odd performance that you could call a good supporting innings. I do think he has improved, his previous 20s and 30s were much slower and you could easily accuse him of playing too slow in those games. However, unless he starts to convert more of his starts into match winning performances such that his off-days can be excused given that he will win you games on his own when he plays well or starts to make a lot more of those useful 20s and 30s I don't see a way forward for him. His domestic inconsistency has to be a factor too, I get that he doesn't play for a strong side but those numbers are too low to merit inclusion ahead of stronger options.

This Arshdeep Singh looks some player.

Got some nice swing in the first over today & bowled superbly in the last game as well.

Finally Morgan plays in the position that he was supposed to be from the start. No need for Karthik at 4 when you've got an in form Morgan to bat there.

I would have sent Maxwell in. Perfect opportunity for him to get some confidence with no rrr pressure. If you're playing him, might make him bat as well.

And yet Karthik played that superb innings. We are too dependent on Russel to give us the ending boost, we dint get it twice and once we got lucky and came out on top, today we wont be.

Jagadeesan is IN! I repeat this is not a drill, Jadhav has been dropped! @SaiSrini must be over the moon. :p[DOUBLEPOST=1602337394][/DOUBLEPOST]WHY on earth is Mandeep Singh not there for Punjab? Nair and Sarfaraz have already been mismanaged, are they adding another casualty to that list? :rolleyes

I'm really happy for Prasidh, he was very adept at the death for Kolkata two years ago but lost his way last season. Hoping they can squeeze in a few games for him somehow in the future.

Missed the super over by a matter of centimeters. Oh boy, that would have been some redemption by Maxwell but luck continues to elude him.

And again they drop Moeen Ali . TBH , Finch should be dropped for him . Moeen Ali is a beast . And we also witnessed that in the last season .......
