Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Sorry, but this is not true. Vaccination of elderly has started, yes and they are the more susceptible group. But its not like the remaining age groups are completely immune or resistant to it. My uncle in his 40s (without comorbidities) and my cousin in his 20s were hospitalized for 2 full weeks and still haven't recovered fully.

We all saw there was zero social distancing being followed in the Tests and half the folks were not wearing masks. Its not just a matter of securing the players, but keeping the people safe as well. It makes no sense to allow crowds in the next couple of months, as they will be critical. Good sense has prevailed for BCCI in this regard - and I am quite surprised, because otherwise the Bengal election rallies are doing the exact opposite of practicing caution against covid

Nothing has happened though ppl didn't wear masks properly. Chennai and Ahmedabad are doing fine. It's the Centre who has opened up sporting events for crowds, cinema halls for crowds, etc. And the Centre is basically running Indian cricket right now with Jay Shah as the proxy.

This entire situation is so convoluted and in pretty hard mess, that I will never agree that the BCCI had good intentions in mind when arriving at this. The politics is there for everyone to see. Ahmedabad aint having an IPL team but is force fitted. Hyderabad is crying out loud that why are we ignored when Mumbai gets games despite the big no of COVID cases. Mohali is doing the same thing. I love Wankhede and is a special ground, but how does it get games when Hyderabad and Mohali doesn't get it. If you're playing in clusters and want easy movement across the cluster of venues, what criteria made them choose Mumbai at the expense of Hyderabad which has closer proximity to Chennai? If they really wanted a big ground for the knockouts and planned to play without crowds, give it to Wankhede/DY Patil. Let them host the knockouts. Mumbai Indians have rightfully earned it by being defending champions.

Everything about this reeks of nonsense, and I am frankly surprised that this is getting support here. Well.... I will shut up after this on this scheduling topic (dont want to drag this too deep from here) :D

I do not doubt for a second that the decision has been made based on political agendas only. I think it was all about giving new Ahmedabad stadium more games because of he who must not be named. It is all political

But for a change, in trying to push for their political agenda, they have accidentally take a good decision.

I assume you're not here in Chennai at the moment because cases have been increasing here over the last few days. May appear insignificant on paper at the moment but the beauty of an exponential curve is that it can suddenly surprise you with it's rapid growth.

But I do agree on Mumbai and Ahmedabad getting games when they have really strong reasons to not hold games there pretty stupid.

I think we can all safely assume that Ahmedabad, going forward, will be hosting a lot of international games at the expense of other grounds. Mumbai is too powerful a house to not host IPL and I mean that financially. Not surprising, but yeh feels like an incorrect decision.

Gotta use that massive new bootlicker stadium.

67,200 people have watched the first T20I between India and England at the Motera stadium today (Mar 12).. Thats 60% attendance for a ground whose capacity is 110K. Where did the 50% attendance only rule go? And where did Corona go?

The more you get vaccinated, the more we close stadiums for crowds... Huge no of cases in Mumbai vs way lesser cases in Hyderabad, but Mumbai gets IPL games while Hyderabad does not (also despite Hyderabad being closer to Chennai which is tagged with Mumbai for the beginning set of games).... Makes any damn sense? WHATEVER......

Motera's capacity is 132k.

This one says its 110,000

I have read about this 110K thing in other sites too. How come suddenly the numbers went up by 22K?

Cause 110K wouldn't be the biggest in the world.

I too felt it was 110k but during the D/N Test in the pre-match show they mentioned it was 132k

A small glimmer of a dream has opened up in certain fans eyes about the possibility of Rohit being released by MI in favor of Ishan Kishan, and CSK trying to go all out on Rohit (who will be 34 next year) and give him the captaincy. Knowing Mumbai Indians and seeing the way Ishan Kishan is batting and considering his age (23 next year), will they really punt on a 34 yr old Rohit over Ishan? Bumrah and Hardik are younger and deadlier pieces that have to be retained instead of Rohit. This could potentially leave Rohit vulnerable due to his age, and who better than CSK to go for him considering our love for the experienced. :D

Will be interesting to see! Gosh, this IPL has become so intoxicating that even when you watch intl matches, you think about its impact on IPL franchise decisions :D :p
