On a serious note - Mumbai is not a captain dependent team, and probably another captain can lead them forward equally well. If Ishan continues to bat this way, why would they want to lose him to another team? He looks good to have a really long and an illustrious IPL career (even if his international returns are hot and cold). Imagine if Ishan goes to another team and plays really well for them and stays with one team for 3 auction cycles (i.e. 9 years), he makes them really strong. Mumbai are known to look long term and thats why I felt that. And not just me, I am reading similar things on Twitter about this
As for CSK, their strategy of going for the experienced folks has worked for them and so why not Rohit? Releasing Rohit can work for MI and getting Rohit can work for CSK. It could be a win-win.
