Indian Premier League - General Discussion

When he started Tom Curran didn't he bowl quite a few Yorkers against Australia back in 2017-18 , had a decent BBL the following year as well.

Maybe I am wrong or not good at this but looking at Tom Curran face with that headband and his hairstyle looks like he has been going through a mental trauma or something has a very depressing look on his face these days.

That look on face you can clearly distinguish back when he started and now.

Have noticed this during the recent India-England series and even evident in the lastest IPL

Well one can argue that not getting wickets can make you go from first to second pic but I have noticed this difference lately.

Again these are my views my completely be incorrect and might not have significance in his performance at all.

TBH, I was really excited when he came into the international scene considering the potential he showed. However, he is definitely being pushed too hard by England management right now. I don't like using the word overrated but that's the word we can associate with Tom currently. Again, not to say he won't become better with experience but looking at how he has bowled so far in his career, I feel Sam is a better option right now.

This is an enormous plus for CSK. Deepak Chahar has been extremely off since covid and this is an enormous positive. I still don't agree with the team playing and one day people will realise how atrocious Shardul is with the white ball.

If I were Fleming, I'm asking MSD to bat 3 today. He desperately needs time in the middle.

Absolutely farce of a wicket. Suddenly the Wankhade wicket went from 200 plus scores to
120. This is freaking T20. I am not asking for a slogfest with 200 plus runs.. I would take 160-170 kind of pitch over this boring slow pitch.
Also Faf is struggling too much.

Time to drop Ruturaj. He is not obviously the answer to our Powerplay woes. I wish CSK dont realize it after its too late. When you bat till No. 11, you obviously got to take more risks and Ruturaj didnt do that much at all.

Uthappa and Moeen will be a better opening combo with the form Moeen is in. We need to win this today in 16-17 overs to get a NRR boost after our last defeat to DC.

More to do with back to back matches as the curator takes a lot more time to prepare a good deck it needs sufficient amount of water and good even rolling of the surface as well.

It gets more and more difficulty in the summer period as the soil does absorbs a lot of water, so less time results in these poor quality of pitches.

Moeen Ali slaying PBKS single-handedly :(

Great batting from Moeen!! A revelation buy for CSK!! Truly deserves to open the batting and give us the faster starts that CSK needs in the Powerplay.

@LiveLoveABD your pre-season prediction on Moeen likely to come true? :D (touch wood)

I think Ben Stokes is a once in a century bloke and we love to talk about our depth in our cricket and that is true but there is no match to England's depth. You have to go about 1.3 billion people in India to find a Pandya and Jadeja and if one of them is injured, we are playing white ball cricket with one had tied behind our back. England has multi role cricketers like apples in an orchard that don't get game time because of the towering talent that Stokes is.

Moeen Ali should have already been an IPL stalwart but he was playing in the most consistent and balanced franchise so he could never get a proper run.

I think Chennai should have finished this with two overs more to spare. That opening combination will be a serious problem in the stiff games particularly when chasing!

Moeen has made a serious case for himself to be promoted to open the batting. Depending on the pitch, either Ngidi or Tahir should come in for Faf (who despite his runs today, struggled for the most part). And I wish CSK play Uthappa to see if he can improve the Powerplay runs for CSK. Cant see the point of batting all the way till No. 11 when we cant be adventurous at the start

Moeen has delivered in back to back matches which is a really good sign for CSK and I do agree with @SaiSrini that Moeen needs the open along with Uthappa. Both of them would actually take advantage of the Powerplay, an area where they haven't done well since the last edition.

I was disappointed with the way the CSK batsmen approached it near the end of their run-chase. I would consider that as brainless batting and absolutely unnecessary effort to force the finish to a match where they clearly dominated.

I felt one thing that worked against CSK was the way Raina's age old short ball weakness got horribly exposed. I think the sides would definitely try the short bowling tactics against him in the coming matches.

Ngidi is for me the opposite of Woakes. He's just awful. The other thing is, CSK already has good new ball bowlers and that's where Ngidi is par. They need to get Behrendoff and Tahir. Faf is just like cement now in this format. Uthappa and Gaekwad need to open. I like Moeen best at 4 because he can really inject some urgency in the middle and he can play spin in his sleep. It will also help Raina who likes a hack and is best suited to 3. Moeen can bat anywhere but Uthappa can't.

Uthappa
Gaekwad
Raina
Moeen
Dhoni
Jadeja
Curran
Thakur
Chahar
Behrendoff
Tahir

Also I do not agree that today's pitch was a poor one by any means. It was definitely a difficult wicket but KXIP's batting made it look a lot worser. The way Shahrukh Khan was hitting it through the line was a sign that it had a lot to offer if a batsmen got his eyes in.

The thing with batting line-ups like PBKS and DC is that they are good on pitches that are flat and dead but even a touch of movement or bounce or any kind of help to the spinners puts them under huge pressure. It is not the pitch but the batsman's approach.

Dont you think that's too many Powerplay bowlers (Chahar, Curran, Behrendorff) as opposed to a death bowler or two? I am still not convinced fully on Shardul's death abilities. Ngidi is done well for CSK before in the death in 2018 and a few games in 2020. If Bravo doesn't play, Ngidi should play. Curran is developing into a death bowler but I dont think he is completely there yet.

I do think Behrendorff should walk in when he is ready, but considering Fleming's words after the defeat to DC, they seem to rate Ngidi well.
