Indian Premier League - General Discussion

AB will probably bat at 7 soon and 8/9 by playoffs.
I don't understand RCB's obsession with Christian at number 3. Batting AB at number 5 was still acceptable for me, since Bharat can't bat down the order. But to send Christian at number 3 is absurd.

As with any other VK led team, the moment we come closer to the knock-outs, the strategizing goes for a toss!

Some may say, better the loss came now rather than in the knock-outs. However, unless they get their act straight, they might be headed for a similar fate in the KO games. They really had a shot at the Top2 and the messed it up badly. Let's see what happens now.

There is an obsession around the IPL in general of saving your best for the end. It could be overs of bowlers who can win games or batters. AB's record batting at 3&4, specially at 3 should tell anyone that it's just a matter of him getting in. Once that happens, the result is a foregone conclusion. Sure, he can win you games as a finisher but what gives you more likelihood of winning more games? Him batting where he is, or 40/1 after the two openers have wasted the PP?

RCB are where they are because of Patel and Chahal with the ball with a notable mention to Siraj and AB and Maxwell's brilliance in the first and second leg respectively.

Interesting to see what this massive defeat for CSK does to RCB's chances for a Top 2 qualification. I won't be surprised if DC rests some players in tomorrow's match vs RCB, as they have safely placed themselves into the Top 2

CSK is unraveling! Two massive defeats in a 3 match consecutive loss, does not look good at all for their playoff chances. Captaincy did not look good today. KL Rahul has a gun match up vs Deepak Chahar, and was murdering Chahar as expected. Yet Dhoni was intent on finishing off Chahar's overs within the first 10. And Chahar got royally plundered. I'm going to go with no hopes on CSK from here on

Yeah I found their bowling terrible today. They were way too short and you don't bowl that length to KLR in the form that he has looked in.

Faf did play another of those brilliant knocks which he is so good at since the last season but had other batsman showed him support CSK could've scored some 160+

Probably I saw that 2020 IPL version of MSD as Captain in last 3 matches. It still seems that they have saved their best for the last. I still believe CSK can lift the title.

I would still bring back Suresh Raina for the playoffs, no matter what shit form he is in. Uthappa mentioned clearly after 2020 IPL season that he struggles in middle overs and he is at his best when he opens. And CSK have no space for him to open! Might as well get back Raina and hope for a fluky innings for him. Raina is a better middle order bat than Uthappa, having played a significant part of his career there.

But before that, an update on the question all of you are asking. For RCB to move 2nd and drop CSK to 3rd, RCB need to score around 200 runs and win by 163 runs to go past Dhoni's side (They cannot overtake CSK by chasing a target). Now take into account that the biggest win margin in IPL so far is 146 runs by Mumbai vs Delhi Daredevils in 2017. So CSK can sleep well.

So RCB cannot overtake CSK if they chase tomorrow.... And the scenario for batting first also looks pretty impossible. And its not easy to set 200 targets in Dubai and chasing teams are starting to have a serious wood in their favor.

So only the 4th is up for the grab now. And it all depends on this game and the MI game. So it means that MI fans like me are rooting for RR to win today. :p

If we win which is most liky right now, Mumbai will have a big ask to win making them mostly nothing but out?
