My prediction is KL Rahul might part away with Kings Punjab Franchise & somehow will end with RCB as the next skipper.
Will be a terrible signing as a skipper if that happens, I hope for the good of Indian cricket KL never captain India maybe can still do in the franchise cricket.
KLR parting ways with Punjab is confirmed. The claim is that he was approached by a few franchisees- like @Bigby Wolf mentioned, I have a feeling this is RCB.
It would indeed be a terrible signing as captain on account of the below:
1.Rahul is not captain material
2. KLR will lead a team where Kohli will still be the dominating force
3.RCB will still make the same selection blunders
Leaving him alone to focus on batting will help the team's cause. However, one must not forget that KLR has played some of the most selfish innings of the IPL.
Part of the woes for RCB seem to be linked to Kohli's leadership abilities. Else, there's absolutely no reason for a side like that to mess up in almost every edition/KO game.
Orchestration in a KO game requires the tactics and strategies to be spot on. Kohlu, in his captaincy has not gotten this right with either India, India-U19 nor with RCB. I say, U19 as well, cause the team almost screwed up the finals. Is it something to do with his demeanor during such games? Or is it something that he mentions in his 'pep talks' that tiles uo the teams?
For the forthcoming year, while he's publicly announced he ain't going anywhere, I feel this too, could become problematic for RCB. They have a fantastic opportunity to weed out old 'losing' culture in the upcoming mega auction. Retention of the core shouldn't be something that they need to focus on, as their core hasn't done anything worthwhile. Also, the likes of Virat and AB might play for 2 more years at max. Wouldn't it be better to go all out and pick up/groom a future team under say KLR(he is leaving Punjab) /Shaw/any young leader?

Still feel Delhi missed a trick by not having Iyer lead. To me, of all the names doing the rounds for Future India Captain - Iyer seems to be the most steady, followed to an extent by Shaw.
I honestly don't think RCB has that strong a side. No stronger than say Punjab or Rajasthan (with their English players).
They wasted a fortune on Kyle Jamieson cause he had done well in tests. Instead they've ended up with George Garton and Harshal Patel leading the attack (combined $56,000).
Padikkal is developing into what looks like a good player.
Kohli is struggling to push on - I really think he's mentally exhausted and giving up some captaincy duties will hopefully help him rediscover his batting form. In fact, he might be better off packing in T20i after the World Cup.
Maxwell has had his first decent IPL in living memory (is that down to Kohli's leadership abilities?)
Whatever player AB has been he's not getting any better. He was their crutch in the first half of the tournament though.
Srikar Bharat has had a good few matches but he's got career record in T20 cricket that shouldn't get him near an IPL starting XI.

imo Rahul wasn't an awful captain, he was a selfless guy who put the team first ahead of himself- highlighted by his SR in the last two seasons and his uncharacteristic knocks at a SR ~120. Don't think they were selfish knocks, Punjab's batting order outside of Mayank and himself was non-existent and probably forced his hand at being an anchor. Captaincy has definitely affected Rahul's batting and even his demeanor on and off the field. Guy barely broke a genuine smile as captain, looked depressed and sometimes even relieved after winning in his post-match interviews, which suggests there was a lot of pressure on him. RCB would be definitely targeting him, they'll definitely make him the next captain. Thought SRH would be one of the franchises to target him too, since our management has an eternal love for having 10 openers in the squad.
They messed up at the mega-auction back in 2018. Gayle was left out because of couple of poor seasons while KLR had a really good season in 2016 (he missed the entire 2017 season due to injury). The biggest failure of the side was to not find proper bowlers even after consistently failing to achieve results because of the inefficiency in that department.
Also Garton was the leading wicket-taker in The Hundred playing for the Southern Brave while Harshal Patel just equalled the record for most wickets in an IPL season. In the context of this season, Patel was a real match-winner. Shouldn't he be bowling upfront defending 139?
Maxwell had a really good season 7 years ago, infact better than this season where he notched up 552 runs eventually winning the MVP award that season. First half of that season was played in UAE. So maybe it had a little bit to do with the conditions. Also, he seems to talk a lot about his mental health. So this season he was in his best mental space that helped him perform better. So he does have the ability to perform.

Pretty much the story for most of the franchises buying these "high profile" overseas players like Jamieson. Do well in one series against India, get a truckload of money for carrying the drinks and get discarded the next season. Even millionaire man Chris Morris was carrying the drinks at the end of RR's season.
Maxwell is a lottery player. Never had a season like he had in 2014, looked like he just didn't give a fearsome tweak back then and gave it a whack. Probably having the big guns in Kohli and AB around him freed some of that pressure of being that "experienced player" that everyone expects to depend on, like when he played for KXIP or DD. Watched a Grade Cricketer interview with Shane Watson, he was saying the same thing about having that great environment helps Maxwell a lot. Can guarantee if he doesn't go back to RCB or go to CSK think he will have a less than 400 run season.
Think RCB had a decent team this year, on paper it was a powerful team and did pretty well I'd say. Padikkal was very good in the first half, Kohli consistently played anchor and faltered a couple times, but RCB's lower middle order was poor. Looks like Christian is another one of those Aussie players that come to the IPL that struggle on slower tracks after great BBL seasons a la D'Arcy Short. Most of the time it seemed like Harshal was picking up cheap wickets at the death with batsmen giving wickets away but he did prove to be a matchwinner in the second half like in that MI game. Think he genuinely bowled quite well in the second half.
I remember RCB & DC spent a truckload of money on a out of form Yuvraj Singh who seemed to be past his prime in consecutive seasons only to leave him out the next season. Not to forget Heinrich Klassen & Tymal Mills who failed to live up the hype.

I certainly think its great to see Garton get an IPL gig. He's developing into a good player I think it was the covid incident v Pakistan that prevented him getting an England debut.
It's also great to see a player like Harshal (uncapped I think) leading the wicket taking stats.
My point is I don't necessarily think Kohli/RCB has done poorly not to reach the final. If they've underachieved then Rohit should be fired cause Mumbai are easily the best team on paper. I'd say KKR have overachieved and SRH should be wound up and closed it seems so poorly run.
I think captaincy is a lot of luck when on the field. People laud some captains for making the most obvious decisions while others are criticised for things they can't control. A lot of it is about creating a culture to support players to achieve the best. I think this is something Kohli has certainly done with the India side. Similarly with Morgan, I find it funny that a lot of Indian fans seem to really dislike him or think he's a bad captain. Yet he took a team that was a laughing stock to a World T20 final and World Cup Winners. If an Indian captain did that they'd be worshipped like Dhoni.
This was mainly by creating an environment where players have less fear of failure because they are backed even if they do. That has a rippling effect throughout the system. England couldn't compete at the World Cup in 2015 but in 2021 we put out a third strength side that beat the first team of one of the top five or six teams. India went from 4-1 in the 2018 test series to essentially winning the last one.
I do think The Hundred might lead to a more English players getting a chance at the IPL. Australia has a very strong first XI in limited overs cricket but I don't think they have as much depth as England or India; yet the BBL is seen as some kind of good example of a player likely to succeed in the IPL. I don't think the quality is much better than the Blast these days. Maybe it's because it takes place close to the auction or a lot of Australian coaches.
The fact is Rohit have won 5 titles(won the title in his first season as Captain) while Kohli's team are generally at the bottom year after year. It was ok to have a couple of bad seasons but to make it a habit is something that should be looked upon. When you have 8 seasons where your team is languishing at the bottom and you continue to make similar/same mistakes then it is not just acceptable. Also it was not as if MI became a strong team on paper in one day. If we go back to 2013-16 seasons, Pandya brothers and Bumrah were unknown entities who were consistently backed due to which they are match-winners not just for MI but the Indian team. There was not just 1, but 3 mega-auctions in this period!!! Kohli had enough opportunities to build a team from a scratch, but his failure to do so clearly gives an indication that he was not the best man for that job.
And talking about Dhoni, I think everyone of us were critical of him the last season for being a little too rigid in his methods which cost them heavily. He started off in a similar way this season but then he responded to it and lead them to the Finals.

That is exactly why we think Rahul is not the right candidate for captaincy. Seems to put too much pressure on himself, and this was very well highlighted by the manic slowdowns that he would cause upon his and the team's batting. Pant seems to be on a similar mould, although he is lucky that he has a very good team at his disposal.
