Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Stokes was hot property back then. Unlike Stoinis.
I get it that he was a great deal back in the day unlike Stoinis. But Stoinis is a proven match winner for Delhi Capitals while Stokes had never played in IPL plus he was taken for cleaners in the WT20 not even a year prior to the auction. You can bank on Stokes for the longer formats and ODs but he was never a reliable T20 option.

Given a choice of spending 15 cr on Stokes or Stoinis, I'd any day choose Stokes. I've seen his IPL 100 live at the stadium and can say he makes it seem effortless. Stokes is more than a capable AR and can double up as a captaincy option, if required.

Well, anyway, Stoinis' gain-he's got a season to prove his detractors wrong. Hope he does it.

Is this the same Ben Stokes who has flattered to deceive for Rajasthan that everyone wants at 15C? I'll still stick by my controversial assessment that Stokes is heavily overrated in T20s owing to his magnificient test and ODI exploits.

Stoinis for 11C is a strange decision too. I get the argument that in the absence of Stokes and Morris that he would have likely gone for a big price in the auction but I'm not sure if he will prove worthy of the price tag. The man does have clout to spare though given his exploits last season and his heroics versus Pakistan in the T20WC.

Lucknow picking a Stoinis for 11 crore? Why on earth would you not get a Rabada or a Starc? I get Bishnoi for the trade off with Rashid! Unbelievable! If the all rounder was the criteria what bad was Sam Curran?

I guess Sam Curran rejected the offer, hoping for either a return back to CSK or harboring hopes of getting a lot more money than what was offered to him? The tricky thing with these drafts and retentions is that, players also now have a say on whether they accept the offer or not. We won't really know if the players were the ones rejected it, or if the franchise didn't go after them.

Talk about the IPL 2022 likely to be held in Mumbai/Pune with no crowds!! :facepalm:facepalm:facepalm

I wouldn't mind the UAE again, if we can get crowds! Omicron is already on the downward slope in India, and the trend with Omicron is that it falls almost as fast as it rises. It'll be a boring tournament without the crowds! And I think MSD can very well give up hopes of a Chepauk farewell. Hope he focuses on transitioning to an able leader and stays with the team really long as a mentor. He can always be back in Chepauk as the mentor and crowds will flock to just get a glimpse of him.

MSD really deserves a farewell at Chepauk in the yellow Jersey. Hope the situation becomes much better and restrictions removed by then.

I hope so too! But the pandemic mental scarring is not easy to get rid of. Even if Omicron cases are falling, people are mentally ready already for the next variant. There are still huge world pockets that believes in "Zero COVID" (the entire Australia-Djokovic drama is one example).

But crowds are pretty important for the tournament. It lights up the atmosphere when people are present in stadiums.

I'm very happy for Rahul and Pandya because of the coverage they will get. That coffee episode was new India.

If anyone here believes they don't go to a bar and do what they did or what their friends do then they are abnormal. And, if anyone here feels that Indian cricketers need to behave in a certain way off field to please the masses then I am all for a debate.

I just hope these two cricketers play how they are meant to be and not how Rahul has become.

Rahul and Pandya captains and highest paid players in the IPL. Anyone want to have coffee over this with me?

So damn proud of this!
