Indian Premier League - General Discussion

That way I agree. But I think the IPL team owners and coaches around the world were definitely aware about his skills. Not often do we see a batsman scoring in excess of 40 in 4 of the first 5 innings in T20 Internationals. From the time he has arrived into the scenes he has looked like an established player.

The franchise owners are mostly buffoons or extremely intelligent in the sense that, they realise they own cricket teams and want to run them too or they realise they own cricket teams but cannot run it. Every time this debate has come up I have mentioned why I love the CSK franchise and it is because CSK is a culmination of the great work that was already being done for decades by India Cements. They know they are the motherboard but the processor needs to be someone else. I don't think for example that MI is a great franchise. Money is the answer to all their issues and when you see their spend on return, they really should be qualifying every year at the min. Two of their trophies have been won by 1 run in a final.

As far as coaches in the IPL go, they are merely fancy ornaments on a bride dressed for her big wedding day. Either they are suppressed by owners/CEO's to agree and keep their job (Shastri for example would make an excellent IPL coach specially at KKR) or they are suppressed by the captain. I can name you an entire cocktail of coaches for RCB with marvellous CV's. I think the coach in general in cricket is a no nonsense, quiet support act ie a Fleming, Kirsten, Vettori (I think he was excellent but Kohli is Kohli). I don't want to include Dravid here because I think that bloke is just from another planet. Like I feel MSD is just beyond human understanding, I think Dravid is that chap from yesteryear. If any cricketing logic can justify the entire galaxy of coaches MI have then the Aussie team of the 00 and the WI team of the 70's should not exist. Obviously, cricket has changed and sports science has its place but a lot of the MI seasons filled with completely chaotic outlooks are a result of too many cooks spoil the broth. They actually have one of the most intelligent and in my opinion a future HOF coach sitting right in that cocktail and that is Zak. Everyone else, including "GOD" should sit at home.

Why the hell would the CSK CEO try to pull Rayudu out of his IPL retirement? Damn man, we need that money to spend next year! :D

Rayudu and his retirement U-turns are stuff of folklore now! He's been an absolute gun for CSK in the time he has played for us though. CSK helped him maximize whatever was left in him and he also gave it his all for CSK! But I agree with Rayudu that its now time to move into the sunset. His fitness levels are not going to magically vanish overnight and he definitely has significant fitness issues (he played a stunning 30+ ball knock in one of the games this season where he didn't field at all in the first innings, but he was huffing and panting for a 30 ball knock).

‪Salman Irshad, Zaman Khan and Pathirana all vying for the mini-Malinga label‬

One of the things that make Gujarat Titans a team to be reckoned is the way they have time and again proven everyone wrong regarding the judgement of their opposition.

I mean who would've expected Saha to come out all guns blazing against Simarjeet considering his struggles against genuine pace? And here he was smashing Simarjeet all around the park scoring at a SR of close to 200.

Also I really liked the way Pathirana got Gill out on the very first delivery he bowled.

Onto CSK, this is so unlike them in the end stages of the tournament. They are expected to blow away their opposition at this stage but instead they are struggling. The same thing happened during the last season as well. Maybe it's a lot to do with the fact that a win is almost unnecessary which let them play their bench since the last season.

Happy enough that CSK played Solanki, Pathirana and Jagadeesan today. And all 3 of them impressed today - especially Pathirana and Solanki. For someone playing his first IPL game, Pathirana bowled really well. Hope he plays the next one too. It looks like Pathirana might get retained by CSK for next season, which could mean that Jordan is almost certain to be released. Solanki didn't pick up wickets today because there was absolutely no pressure on the Gujarat batters considering the total and the way Saha started off big, but still he bowled really well and was extracting some serious rip on the ball.

Well... small but some good positives at the end of an absolute dreadful season! Take'em back and work on it for next season.

Royals are very heavily reliant on their top order. Worked so far, but this is the part of the tournament where they need it most.
