Indian Premier League - General Discussion

For two unknowns before the start of this IPL, both Mukesh Chaudhary and Simarjeet Singh kept CSK very much in this contest in the first 8 overs of that chase when defending 97 runs. Mumbai literally had to pay them respect and play them out safely, to feel more comfortable in the run chase.

Those two boys are big positives for CSK - especially Mukesh Chaudhary. For the horrific start he had, I was muttering expletives and yet CSK backed him and he has come out good. He has the swing to trouble batsman and on pitches like this, him and Deepak Chahar will be a real handful. Combine that with the spin attack and if we return to Chepauk next year, lots of positives to look forward to. Now hope they try out Rajvardhan and/or Solanki in the next 2 games, since playoffs is completely ruled out.

God joke, mate! :laughter::laughter::laughter:

CSK ain;t going to try them out unfortunately. I pity the newcomers, cause even though CSK is out, they aren't giving their budding youngsters a shot here. Any other team would certainly have tried them out.

Well... they did play Mukesh this season and are giving Simarjeet a decent and consistent run (and also playing Theekshana). And this is the 2nd time in 3 seasons that they are rocked by injuries and unavailability which has hampered their playoff chances. And as CSK knows and mentions, this is a transition phase for them where Raina has left, Dhoni is almost leaving and some of the others are in the far twilights of their careers. I dont expect them to hold out too long in this current phase, on trying out new players. Maybe the pace at which they hand out debuts won't be as easy as the other teams evidenced by the way Fleming gave that explanation about "not wanting to destroy Rajvardhan's career by throwing him in the deep end so soon".

To be honest, anyone with half a brain would admit that CSK had fielded an ageing side in 2021. The mega auction was their chance to weed out the 'near retirement' players and start afresh. They missed that opportunity. To blame transition over and over again for their failure is a bit far fetched. More so, given that the team themselves do not want to look beyond a certain few individuals.

Disagree! Why did you play Mukesh right from the 1st game then? Why did you bid for N Jagadeeshan? Rajvardhan Hangargekar will walk away from this IPL without playing a game. Given MSD's demi-God status, he is bound to give a stupid interview proclaiming how MSD shaped his thought process and other bs. I'd honestly be happy if he and Jagdeeshan walk away from CSK next year. Atleast, they can be better utilized by teams like Punjab, KKR, SRH etc.

I think he is currently the best player for NZ by a fair margin across formats. So not too sure why won't he get enough recognition. He could've easily been their top run scorer in the WT20 had he not been shunted down to bat at 4.

if you ask ten people to name the top 10 batsmen in T20 cricket, he will not feature.

I said it in the championship years as well- We need an option of a proper leg spinner and a gun foreign fast bowler. Bravo's skill set is one dimensional and CSK ideally need someone like a Nortje, Boult, Rabada mould. They will rue not going for Archer. I think they got Adam Milne and I think he's a fantastic bloke and has amazing potential but his body is never in one piece.

If you see, they haven't really replaced Hazlewood.

That way I agree. But I think the IPL team owners and coaches around the world were definitely aware about his skills. Not often do we see a batsman scoring in excess of 40 in 4 of the first 5 innings in T20 Internationals. From the time he has arrived into the scenes he has looked like an established player.

Not complaining but SRH plays like 1 match a week.
Even MI did for most of the season, actually due to expansion of teams, we are seeing most rest days.

The DRS "unavailability" is inexplicable. Given the amount of money the league makes/gives, there should absolutely no reason to have episodes like these. It should be a matter of shame and embarrassment to the administration, but unfortunately, don't think they give a hoot.

Another thing that's annoying is the standard of umpiring. How easy it has become for the players to influence umpires (those newcomers) into giving them what they want. A stare or agonising appeals is all it takes for them to shift their decision. We saw one again yesterday. However, the player is as much to be blamed here. Showing dissent/arguing with the umpire has become the norm. That's not a great advertisement though.

A good thing IMO. We get depressed only once a week as opposed to multiple times :p

I guess RCB losing makes for a far more interesting fight among the 4,5 6, and 7 placed teams.

RCB being RCB.

Might just bottle up the last game as well and gets knocked out before the Playoffs.
