Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Difficult ask this for Jadeja.

Never had any prior captaincy experience.

Leading the side that too under the shadow of a legend like Dhoni.

Very early signs to say he is not captaincy material and if true I better hope he fails miserably at this would be better for him as a cricketer in the future and also for the franchise.

I am definitely concerned about Jadeja the captain, but I'd wait before passing any verdict on his captaincy yet. There have been players in the past who've not had any captaincy experience and yet, they come in and take it on like a 'fish to water'. Jadeja showed extreme nervousness and literally slowed the game down, even though he had Bravo and Santner at their batting disposal. If Bravo had batted 2 overs today, CSK might have ended up with 150+. This is my favorite ground and he showed with his bowling how much he loves this ground.

The game was lost when both our openers fell cheaply. Had atleast one of them built a decent platform with Uthappa and taken us to 50 runs in the PP, we would've batted better against the spin duo of Varun-Narine. With really bad start and having Varun-Narine coming up, is a CHECKMATE situation! To KKR's credit, they've done a great job retaining Varun and Narine and adding a few good touches like Shreyas, Billings, etc.. KKR is much stronger than last year and are sure to be title contenders again.

CSK are definitely getting Moeen back. Now whether he replaces Conway or Santner is to be seen. I'd drop both Conway and Santner and have Moeen come in for Conway and Dwaine Pretorius come in for Santner. Pretorius is a good mid-overs and death bowler and he's available from Game 2 onwards. Maybe give Dube and Tushar an extra game (since CSK doesn't make wholesale changes). Its harsh on Conway but with Deepak Chahar not available for half the tournament, CSK's bowling looks weaker and needs overseas boost. And hope Dhoni now moves up to 5 and Jadeja bats at 6 or 7.

The pitch curator forgot that IPL is no longer in UAE.

Bad track for IPL opener. Considering that it is Wankhede afterall!

Not too sure if you remember the initial Wankhede games of yester years but it has always been the case. The Wankhede stadium often starts off the tournament by offering slow surfaces like these and as the pitch gets harder in April it becomes a batting paradise.

Pretty difficult to remember yester years. I think I need to get my MRI done.

There was nothing wrong with the pitch today. It was just bad batting by CSK. If we saw how Dhoni handled the last 3 overs of CSK's innings, it showed that there was a lot in the pitch for batsmen. And I think KKR also batted circumspectly because with a new look team on their side too, they were also nervous and they wanted to focus on getting the win into their hands and so didn't attack more. I felt KKR could have finished this game in the 17th over itself, rather than in the 19th over.

People are passing judgements way too quick here. It ain't the end of the world losing the first match, and Jadeja's first as captain. Give him a few games, not just one to see if he's cut out for captaincy. Also seemed like he had a bad day with the bat. Had Dhoni gotten out when he was 15 (25) whilst batting at 5, he'd be equally as criticized as Jadeja's "nervous" knock today. KKR dominated proceedings up until those final death overs too.

On KKR's end, not sure why Russell keeps bowling the death overs. Been consistently poor bowling at the death since last season and leaking tons of runs.

Sheldon Jackson finally getting some game & recognition after years of hard work for Saurashtra in the domestic setup.

Was very close back in 2015 to make his India debut.

The bloke is 35 now and a bit of recognition like this is good to see.

I've been following the Wankhede matches very closely for almost a decade now and from what I saw yesterday it definitely looked a little slower. On usual days that Ruturaj dismissal would never have occurred and the ball would easily fly over the slips. But instead it ended up being a regulation slip catch.

I saw him train in the nets at Kolkata once and he did not mishit one ball. Thought he had one of the fastest hands in India back then.

Excellent comeback by Khaleel, 170 looking impossible now. Lord at his best.

Ishan Kishan played a bit slow tbh, according to his standards, if he'd carry his bat through he must have scored a ton. Still an under par score. Banking on Delhi to chase this in 19.
