Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Honestly this might be one of those decisions that absolutely merit a sacking or at least a warning. I've seen football managers be sacked for making less braindead decisions. Cricket coaches must be some of the most protected species in sports.

To emphasise how bad and utterly ridiculous of a decision it was... Rawat faced forty seven deliveries in the last SMAT. He could not hit a single six out of those forty six balls and only managed four boundaries. That's one in nearly every twelve deliveries you face. His highest score from six matches was a mighty thirteen which was against Manipur team that won only once by the barest of margins in that season. He averaged 6.8 in the campaign and scored thirty four runs.

But here's the best part of them all... Rawat is an opener. That means he has these hideous numbers despite batting in the powerplay and it also means that RCB sent him despite knowing that with the death overs approaching. Not everyone is a Stoinis or Wade who can adapt from facing powerplay pace to death overs pace and still contribute (and I hated armchair analysts calling it a genius move then when there's a huge difference in the type of deliveries you face in both phases from the same bowlers). Rawat's definitely not anywhere close to the talent of either of them and he isn't anywhere near a hitter in the mould of Hasaranga or even Parnell both of whom possess much superior career strike rate numbers despite having played a lot more games and starting out as primarily bowlers.
We don't know what's happening in nets.

I don't disagree but there's surely no rationale behind that decision? It's one thing wheeling out Bumrah or Axar to play tests with them having limited recent FC experience because you know they do have a solid record despite it being small and they've shown their skill in other formats besides being good in nets, Rawat batting out of position having not made any impact the last time he played while two international cricketers with much better records sit in the hut is bonkers. He'd have to be playing like Bradman in the nets to justify that move.

Just saw a comment on Cricinfo that was considering the future of Ponting at DC due to this season. Not sure about that one as this just feels like everything going wrong at the same time for Delhi. A combination of...

Warner
Shaw
MMarsh
Dhull
Powell
Sarfaraz/Porel
Axar
Kuldeep
Khaleel
Nortje
Mukesh

...is surely quite decent if everyone was in decent nick. You've still got Rilee, Sakariya, Fizz, Salt and Pandey on the bench for replacements.

Don't know what the whole PSL vs IPL thing is about. I personally feel the IPL is a lazy product. We have the viewership so anything flies but the pace of the game is a sham.

LSG is just obsessed with Krunal. On this pitch to be going at 10's is just terrible and the worse obsession is him batting at 4. Bishnoi has not bowled a ball yet!!!
