Indian Premier League - General Discussion

For all the hype and rumor mongering about Rishabh Pant and CSK, I am very happy that CSK didnt even raise a paddle for him. I feel that his T20 record is grossly overvalued and the same can be said about his captaincy potential. It's weird that LSG has stacked up Pant, Pooran, Miller for a track like the Ekana stadium. I am thinking that they might be revamping the pitch for better returns for these batters?
Mate, they didn't have the money to go for him.

Abhinav Manohar seems to be in good hands at SRH now. He looked like an exciting prospect to me but never really got an extended run at GT. Hopefully SRH gives him enough chances to shine just like they did with Abdul Samad.

Can CSK overhaul Vijay Shankar's batting prowess in T20 as Rahane's reinvention with them? Interesting pick this.

Don't understand to burn up a spot with Kumar Kushagra. Yes he is a keeper but he averages only 11 and strikes at 110 in T20s. He is a potential No.11 who doesn't bowl.

Wished Asutosh Sharma got more. He was absolutely fantastic for Mohali last season.

On Day 1 performance, I would give CSK a 7/10.

Great picks: Rahul Tripathi, Rachin Ravindra
Good Picks: Devon Conway, Ravichandran Ashwin
Average Picks: Noor Ahmed, Vijay Shankar, Khaleel Ahmed

I felt that CSK splurged a bit too much on Noor Ahmed, seeing how frugal they were after that! Vijay Shankar and Khaleel have a 'not so good' reputation, but I wont call them bad picks because CSK have a glorious history of turning mediocre and past their peak players into IPL powerhouses. Thats why that extra point to take us to 7/10 for Day 1.

Plan of Action for Day 2: Need quite a few bargain picks, especially among seamers and an additional overseas batsmen (preferable an allrounder).

If he does, might be crowned as Rohit's successor immediately!

Tough to see Punjab doing well next year. I know the auction is only half done, but the core seems all over the place. That said, today's auction will determine the way forth+ Ponting's tactical nous might make a difference.

You might feel I am picking on you and CSK here, but I feel that CSK is making the same mistake they did during the last mega auction. Tripathi and Rachin are good picks and would be the expected retentions going into the the next cycle. However, the rest of their picks are a bit baffling. Ashwin- yes great to have a reunion, but is he really working in T20 is the question that one needs to ask. Ash and Jadeja do look past their prime and it does seem that CSK are doing the 'Lasith Malinga-esque MI reunion' here.

Noor Ahmad, grossly overpriced. I like how you mention VS and Khaleel there. In all fairness, Khaleel was over priced and CSK's reputation of turning mediocre into decent players might not work with these guys.

One person CSK can should look at- Biarstow- he was unsold yesterday. As a back up to MSD, he could fit the bill. We dont yet know the full extent of MS' health and whether he can keep throughout the IPL. Having someone like Bairstow gives their batting a much needed boost as well.

Warner is still UNSOLD. I have a feeling that MI will snap him up in the 'accelerated process'. They have the largest purse for today and it is possible they may snap him up. Could be a good addition to the team and Warner could essay the role that Gayle essayed for RCB.

Damn! :laughter: :laughter: :laughter:

I actually missed KK in the last few years. Under Jindal, the auctions had a different flavour. KK does play around quite a bit and ain't afraid of rankling the bigwigs.
