Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Kane, Phillips, Rahane, Mayank, Shaw, Shardul- UNSOLD.

I can understand the foreigners going unsold in a mega auction, but can't fathom Indians going so. Most of the teams needs Indian batsmen and picking these guys up at base price would have been a real bargain.

Not sure what franchisees see in Nitish Rana-highly overrated, poor performer, mega attitude and a massive boot licker(as was evident in his post 2024 victory interview where he kept buttering up Gautam Gambhir)

SRH looking really strong, picking Kishan, Shami, Rahul Chahar, Harshal Patel, Simarjeet Singh. Always looked quite light when it came to domestic talent but those added to Abhishek Sharma and Nitish Reddy make them look pretty strong.
Right. With only 5.15 cr left, their auction is most likely over.

They have a really good side. Love the balance.

RCB has a huge chance to get Bhuvi today which will give some teeth to their otherwise hopeless bowling.

Typed this yesterday and somehow forgot to post it. I'm glad Bhuvi is still seen as a big player in franchise cricket. Will be a tough job for him at Chinnaswamy. Talking about Chinnaswamy, Siraj would be taking a sigh of relief as he will not have to bowl there in too many matches.

Loving the GT's bowling. Still feel they should have retained Shami though.

Rashid
Washington
Siraj
Rabada/Coetzee
Prasidh

This seems like a decent attack. If they get some Indian batsmen they could even play both Coetzee and Rabada!! That's absolute gold with Rashid and Washington being very hard to toink for the batsmen.

SRH can still probably get a few decent players at base price but they actually seem to be trying to buy a team rather than splurging on multiple expensive players who do the same thing which seems to have been their previous approach.

Espn Cricinfo's coverage of the auction is miles better than Cricbuzz's. Cricinfo has the live commentary/tracker and are updating on the go. Cricbuzz is pretty slow and is only updating once the player/players have been sold/unsold.

this is very useful and easy to read

Glenn Phillips and Shaw (despite all his antics) is a shocker. Pretty sure some teams would be eyeing them. Phillips could be more than handy for GT if they have enough money left. An excellent striker of the ball that is required to fill in Miller's shoes and a handy bowler too. Can be used as a backup keeper. Perfect 360 player.

Phillips hasnt made the list for the accelerated round either

That's appalling.

If at GT had got hands on him, here's what the lineup might have looked like.

Gill
Buttler (wk)
Sai Sudarshan
Phillips
Shahrukh
Tewatia
Rashid
Washington
Rabada/Coetzee
Prasidh
Siraj

It's kinda surprising he is not in the scheme of things coz as per cricinfo GT have filled only 4 out 8 available slots for overseas players. They could have easily accommodated him.

Where is this list? Can't find on the official site.
Just saw it on the live blog on Cricinfo, they mentioned a few players who didn't make the cut.

"The ten franchises have submitted a list of 143 players for the accelerated round. And James Anderson, the oldest player in this auction, is not part of it. Steven Smith is part of it but no room for Glenn Phillips or Kane Williamson.

Notable absentees among Indians are Prithvi Shaw, Shardul Thakur, Devdutt Padikkal and Ajinkya Rahane"

@Paranoid Kendroid
this seems to be the full list, although they are skipping players, probably not on the accelerated list

Great mega auction for MI, after the average one few years back.
