Thats what was expected from Sehwag.Anyways it would be important to finish the session with the loss of 1 wicket.
And there's the another wicket. :facepalm

Vijay would have been very lucky had he survived this over because he looked so uncertain and was finally taken by Steyn-Boucher. This is going to hurt because we had a pretty good start which was completely unexpected. The ball is doing a lot off the pitch and the conditions.

Its Dravid and Sachin now. Hope our pillars stand up and face everything thrown at them.

You can see that Vijay is doing well because Steyn has started resorting to verbal volleys to unsettle Vijay:D

Cheeky of me to wait till Vijay falls :D.. but sorry mate diagree with you totally. If anythin his 19 runs on crease has exposed of how much he needs to develop, to take that opener's role for good on all conditions. Gambhir is way way more solid than Vijay.

Just when it was looking like India negotiated the first half hour fairly well they lose 2 quick wickets. :facepalm

One of the Fab 3 needs to get a big one for India to get anywhere close to 300.

I am not getting into this argument of Gambhir vs Vijay. Yes Gambhir is more solid and thats why he is our regular opener and Vijay is backup. That doesnt mean Vijay didnt do well at the start today. Yes he looked so exposed for quite a few deliveries, but he faced them decently too. I didnt expect much of him and so, it might have looked decent to me.

:facepalm

Up to these two to do something now. At least get 300 in first innings. Dhoni's run in first match were bonus and we will be lucky if he gets half of them in this match.

Now that you can't underrate Vijay because it was for the first time he was playing in this SA conditions.Remember even Gambhir failed in the first innings.I hope he will be lot better in the 2nd Innings.
And for now its important for this both to carry on and get at least a partnership of 100.
@Sachin & Dravid-Please do not loose your wickets.Please.

nahh.. no argument.. I myself became a fan of Vijay after his fluent 87 against SL, but have now realised that he is not a finished picture yet to force his place into current Indian side, as was perceived by some during Aus tour of India.

Indian opening pair has more or less done the job of seeing off the new ball, about which I am quite happy

Vijay has very poor back foot play. Give him one more year under Gary.

Vijay did a good job I think. He looked faily solid, unlike Sehwag. He was leaving the balls outside off stump really well, and flicking the straight ones. Just that last over he started poking, but before that he was doing well. One mistake is all that takes though, in cricket.

Sachin got real aggressive in that last over before lunch. He was lucky that the top edge didnt land in the hands of a fielder. But that upper cut shot was just PHENOMENAL!!! Loved the intent he showed in that over against Morkel. I think its an even stevens session for both teams. SA should have had a few more considering the conditions that they have put India in. India after that decent start could have gone into lunch a wicket less atleast.

Quite right! I thought Vijay looked pretty good until that over vs Steyn where he started poking at almost every delivery and eventually got out in that over.

Seeing the game, the movement does seem to be slowing down a bit though there is still lot on offer for the bowlers. The bounce seems consistent (which explains that shot Sachin played in that last over). The more you bat, the better your chances get. Thats why Vijay and Sehwag could be criticised a bit for not going on for more after getting that start

Don't see how you could say Vijay played well. He was just awful. He didn't know which ones to leave and which ones to play at and was very uncertain in his footwork. I don't rate him one bit outside India. He has flat track bully plastered all over him.

13 is quite an unlucky no. for Fab 3. They make up the top 3 positions of most dismissals on a score of 13 (Sachin tops the list) in entire history of Indian Test cricket.
