Chief selector Kris Srikkanth today in Chennai announced a 13 men squad for the first test against Kiwi's to take place at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium Hyderabad.

With Dravid's retirement selecting a set middle order batsman was the need of the hour. The 13 men squad is...

MS Dhoni has asked for an added rest and with him out Virender Sehwag will lead the side.

Nice to see Pujara there given the nod ahead of Rohit Sharma. Ojha is very good in the tests but it is an interesting pick considering he doesn't get too many chances the only spinner in the side.

"We will come hard on the Indians" - Ross Taylor

In a pre-match press conference Ross Taylor said his boys would come hard on the Indian team. He added "Team India is on losing streak with 8 losses in a row and we are in no mood to give them wins or draws, we will come hard at them and make sure its 11 test defeats at the end of the series. Not thinking to far we have plenty of resources and we will utilize them well. Indian Premier League has given us good opportunity and our preparations have been good enough. We have a blend of youth and experience and that could just work perfect for us.

New Zealand's playing XI - Martin Guptill,Tim McIntosh,Daniel Flynn,Ross Taylor,Jesse Ryder,Brendon McCullum,Daniel Vettori,James Franklin,Tim Southee,Kyle Mills,Mark Gillespie

Hope Pujara holds his position in the international games by displaying a master-class.

Mark Gillespie is spelt wrong. :p I find the Kiwis a far more balanced side than India. That said, I've no idea what is Tim McIntosh doing in the team. He has done nothing special for most part of his career. Kane Williamson and Doug Bracewell are too shocking exclusions.

"Its rebuilding time for us and we will give our 100 percent" - Virender Sehwag

Stephen Fleming's first assignment after being the coach is again creating a dressing room atmosphere which Gary Kirsten had maintained in his stint as coach. Although Mahendra Singh Dhoni has asked for rest, skipper Virender Sehwag too spoke about unity.

He said "There have been many talks in the media about rifts between me and Mahi but all those are complete fake. Yes we have not played well in last 2 test series and its just like a bad dream for us. As players we can perform our individual role while bowling and batting and work in team during low times. We are currently in re-building phase and we would definitely falter in near future too but this would only make us strong. We will definitely miss Rahul Dravid's brilliance in the middle order but we have lots of talented youngsters. We hope to do well in this 2 test match series and hope to be back to our best. New Zealand side should not be taken lightly and we have done some good homework on them. "

India's playing XI - Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Cheteshwar Pujara, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Virat Kohli, Wridhiman Saha, Pragyan Ojha, Varun Aaron, Umesh Yadav, Zaheer Khan

He said "There have been many talks in the media about rifts between me and Mahi but all those are complete fake.
Perhaps this was intentional, perhaps not. If he had said "...all those are completely false", ie., used correct English, I would have believed him. Using such strong and borderline incoherent language however, suggests he "doth protest too much", and makes it sound like he is overstating the unity in the camp.

Well you have just outspoken or understood too much ;) BCCI will be after you :spy

Some interesting story line I have for this rifts :spy wait for it

Stephen Fleming's first assignment as coach against his own New Zealand.Lol:lol.Will definitely follow this :thumbs

Only 4 bowlers in the XI. Risky...

Risk taking for Sehwag is like rusk eating. :p

Only 4 bowlers in the XI. Risky..

Even in real life the Indian test team almost always has 4 bowlers.
6 batsmen + 1 keeper + 4 bowlers has been the composition of the test team for almost 4 years now.
