Story India's search for World Supremacy - Windies v India - 5th ODI up, 5-0 or 4-1?

well doubt 235 will be defendable . Without Tendulkar India dont look good enough....KUTGW..loving the story Jaz

Great batting from Biswal. This was his chance to shine and he took it and delivered. :) But I think the Indians would be a little disappointing at the final total as they had a lot of wickets to spare.

Great works Jaz. Good luck in the SOTM. :)

India Win By 4 Runs

Pathan wins the game for India with 4-51

Well for the first time this tour, India are going to have to bowl second. The West Indian batsmen are already out and ready to start their innings, in which they try to chase down India's score. The Indian's batted rather well, if only a little slow. Biswal top scored with a remarkable 100* whilst he had good support from Badrinath(63) and Dravid, who managed 49*. The bowlers on the other hand were not very pleasant, bar one bowler who seemed to be their best today. Ryan Hinds, with 2-21, by far the best West Indian bowler in the match. West Indies haven't batted well at all this tour and are going to have to start now to get a result against India.

Opening 10 overs
The start the Indian's wanted for nearly came as at the end of the first over it was 0/0 but an LBW appeal got turned down by the umpire. LWB appeal after LBW appeal, it seemed like India had lost all their luck that they had. India couldn't get the breakthrough they wanted though in the first 10 overs as Gayle once again turned out to be playing some great cricket, 30* off 34 with even Ganga doing well on 14*. Sharma being incredibly expensive off his 5 overs getting 31, with Khan bowling well conceding on 13. They're going to have to bowl better, 44/0.

20 overs gone
Irfan Pathan then comes into the attack and gets the breakthrough straight away as Gayle is removed from the pitch for 38 runs. Clean bowled! Golden duck! 2 wickets in 2 balls then occurs as Lara is clean bowled, as well, by Pathan. One bowl left, will he get a hat trick? Pathan to bowl to Chanderpaul... dot ball. Some great bowling by Pathan to get a 2 wicket maiden as the score is 52/2 off 13 overs. Ganga; clean bowled. Pathan again the man to clean bowl someone as Ganga is his next victim for 20. 3-14 his figures at the moment, great bowling! Chawla comes in to bowl with him but starts getting attacked and with the 20 overs looming, cracks under the pressure. West Indies survive the next few overs ending with Chanderpaul on 24* and Sarwan on 11*. 94/3 the score but it can still go either way...

30 overs gone
When you need a wicket, Singh will always be there. In the 28th over, after a very quiet period, Singh comes and gets Chanderpaul for the same score that Dravid got; 49. Caught by Raina as Windies now are on 136/4. Sharma bowls the last over and concedes four runs as Windies get to 140/4 off 30 overs and require 96 runs with 6 wickets left. It could turn out to be very tight if Sarwan goes but at the moment, I can't pick a winner. Sarwan not out on 26 whilst Hinds is the new man on 1*.

40 overs gone
Chawla finally does something good in the match as Hinds is seen lbw by Chawla and is gone for 6 runs off 32 balls. West Indies however have started getting their runs quicker and are now on 168/5. Singh then comes back into the attack and gets a reward as the new man Carlton Baugh goes for 3 runs, getting caught by Laxman, 171/6 needing 65 runs with 4 wickets in hand. This might be tight! The spinners continue to dominate though as Bravo nearly goes early off Chawla's bowling but is dropped by Harbhajan Singh of all people. Pathan then bowls a maiden as the 40th over is seen. Sarwan reaches the 50 milestone as he scored 53* off 55, with Bravo at the other end on 5* off 12. West Indies now require 55 runs at 5.5 runs an over with only 4 wickets left. Close. Very close.

End of Innings
West Indies then take it to the Indian bowlers and after only two overs, they need 35 runs off 48 balls. Windies are now in the driving seat. Bravo gone! Sharma comes back into the attack after bowling terribly earlier and gets Dwayne Bravo for 28 as Laxman gets another catch in the match. This is too close to call now but Windies are the favourites. 5 overs left, 18 runs needed with 3 wickets in hand. Sarwan is still there on 63* and all 5 of the bowlers have one over left. Who will be first? It's Joginder Sharma who got the last wicket. Sharma comes in and bowls a brilliant over, going for only 1 run. 4 overs now left, and 17 runs now needed. Next in is... Piyush Chawla. He will bowl to Smith and if he gets him this over then India might be able to win. He's got him! First ball of Chawla's over and Smith is out. Bowled by Chawla for 4 runs off 10 balls. Only Nurse and Jeremy have to stay in with Sarwan. Windies need Sarwan on strike now... Nurse takes the strain and is ready for his first ball as he... hits it for four! Last bowl of the other and he plays and misses it but with 3 overs to go, Windies need 13 runs with 2 wickets remaining. Sarwan is finally on strike. Khan comes to take the third final over. This is epic stuff! Some incredible bowling by Khan as he goes and gets 4 dot balls of the first 4 balls. Sarwan then hits a single of the fifth to leave Nurse having to defend... he's gone! Ryan Nurse only had to defend the last bowl for West Indies to pretty much win it but he get's caught by Laxman(his 3rd catch) of Khan's bowling for 4 runs. So West Indies now need 12 runs off 2 overs with 1 wicket in hand; Sarwan on strike. Singh then comes in and he has been India's best bowler of the tour so far. First ball and... played and missed! The fifth ball follows the same pattern as Sarwan only manages 2 off the over and therefore will have to face the start of the final over which is to be bowled by Pathan who has bowled the best this match. First ball... no run. Second ball... two runs.Third ball... two runs. West Indies now require 4 runs off the last 3 balls to win. Simple. Fourth ball... Gone! India win! Sarwan has got bowled for 71 runs as India win by 4 runs! Pathan the hero with his 4th wicket.

I think entertaining is the word to be used for that match. A remarkable match ending in a remarkable fashion. We may as well speak about the batting for West Indies first and it was definitely improved that what it has been. Gayle opened well with 38, as Ganga got a decent score of 20 which gave West Indies an average start. Lara came and went quickly but then Chanderpaul and Sarwan had a fantastic partnership of 73 which looked like it could win them the game. Chaderpaul eventually going for 49. Hinds and Baugh then both made brief stays as Sarwan refused to go. Bravo then had one last stint with Sarwan before going for 28 but then after he went, Windies crumbled. Epic stuff. Onto the bowling of our guys and it was the worst it's been since the start of the tour even though it was the first time everyone got a wicket. Khan finished with 1-33 which was quite good by his standards, Sharma also picking up a wicket. Both the spinners picked up 2 wickets but the main bowler was Pathan. His 4-52 was match winning stuff, and those 4 wickets included the last wicket of Sarwan. The best match I have ever witnessed.

West Indies 231 all out
Sarwan 71 Pathan 4-52
Chanderpaul 49 Singh 2-40

India win by 4 runs

Man of the Match - Irfan Pathan

West Indies v India

Three matches into the series and India have already took a 3 match lead. They have been helped by the West Indian team not playing that good cricket but have played well themselves. An incredible nail bitter came in the last match which saw India narrowly win which now means that West Indies have to win every match left in this series; they have to win the next four ODIs. The seamers will get the most reward out of this pitch but it is quite a normal and balanced pitch.. For the first time yet this tour, James Edmonds has kept the same team; which doesn't involve Dhoni, Kumble or the injured Tendulkar:

Rawat
Badrinath
Biswal
Dravid(+)(*)
Raina
Laxman
Sharma
Singh
Chawla
Pathan
Khan

The same team; the same goal. Coach James Edmonds has named the same 11 that beat West Indies by 4 runs, keeping that faith in his players. If they win today then there will surely be alot of debuts to come later in this series. Chandan Rawat has been in average form after hitting 39* and 19 in his two innings, whilst Subram Badrinath has been quite the opposite. Badrinath averages 224.00 this series thanks to three fantastic scores; 101*, 60* and 63. He's been India's best batsman so far this tour. Biswal has kept his number 3 spot, Sachin's number 3 spot, after hitting a magnificent 100* in the last match under the massive pressure of filling Tendulkar's shoes. Dravid averages 91.00 this series thanks to 42* and 49* but he hasn't had the chance to convert them into half centuries. Everyone from the number 5 spot and down though haven't had a chance to show their batting ability this series and are all hoping for a go today. Raina and Laxman keep the 5 and 6 spots whilst the bowling attack stays the same. Sharma the only all rounder, knicking the number 7 spot whilst the spinners, Singh and Chawla, take 8th and 9th spot. Pathan and Khan round of the attack and it has been said that if Khan doesn't bowl well today, he won't play again this series!

Gayle
Ganga
Lara(*)
Chanderpaul
Sarwan
Hinds
Baugh(+)
Bravo
Smith
Nurse
Jeremy

Like India, West Indies have named an unchanged starting 11 which could mean a replay of the 3rd ODI, which I'm sure everyone will be up for. Gayle has been West Indies best batsman, whilst Ganga has been consistently hitting 20's. Lara, Chanderpaul and Sarwan make up the top order but unfortunately for West Indies they haven't all fired in the same match yet this series. Hinds, Baugh and Bravo make up the middle order as all have batted not bad this series as all the top 8 have batting averages above 20, which is better than India's top 8. Smith, Nurse and Jeremy take the tailender spots to try and give the West Indies some depth in the bowling attack. Jeremy and Bravo have bowled terribly this series so far but Nurse and Hinds have been the best. Nurse hasn't bowled bad either averaging 24.60. Hinds is going to be crucial in the match for West Indies today.

Coin Toss

Hello and thank you for joining down here at the Coin Toss. The pitch here today has to be favouring the pace bowlers by quite alot and with such a lovely forecast, which has been here all series, it couldn't be any better.. The bounce is even which will offer little help to the batsman and the wear on the pitch is very good which will help the batters once again. The outfield is fast, for once it's a fast outfield! The light is very good which still hasn't changed all series. The forecast is sunny all day but at one stage there will be overcast conditions but there will still be sun and no sign of rain so there could be a little bit of swing in the pitch and if the toss is won then it's going to be a strange decision to make. Rahul Dravid makes the call of tails and... loses! Brian Lara then decides to bat first. Every time they have batted first they have lost so it is a strange decision by Brian as I would of expected them to have chosen to field. Either way, I think we are in for a good match.

Even without Tendulkar, I still believe that India have the strongest batting line-up and probably India should with them chasing the WI total.

Great work mate, keep it up!:)

West Indies for me. I can see them finally getting revenge. Congrats on 100 posts, always nice to reach that milestone.

Loving the detail of this story Jaz, keep it up :)

West Indies Reach 214

Shivnarine.jpg

Chanderpaul helps West Indies to 214 with his knock of 62

Well this is the most important ODI of the series so far, as if India win then there is no way back for West Indies. However, if West Indies win then they also need to win the last 3 ODIs to win the series. They should both be going for it. Back to the match and all the players are out and Zaheer Khan is going to open the bowling, albeit his last chance. He opens with Joginder Sharma for the second match in a row. The openers haven't changed all series and Chris Gayle and Sherwin Ganga open the innings for West Indies.

Opening 10 overs
West Indies most consistent batsman of the series so far, Chris Gayle, is bowled! A brilliant in swinging yorker by Zaheer Khan was all it took to remove Gayle from the game as West Indies attack and get to 16/1 off 3 overs. Dream start for India. Duck! His second duck in two games! Brian Lara comes in and only faces two balls before he has to go back to the pavilion as he is caught of Sharma's bowling. He made 0 this innings, 0 in the last match and 2 in the match before that. Two lbw appeals in the next over by Zaheer Khan keep the tempo up, as Ganga and Chanderpaul both play their shots nervously. Ganga gone... oh wait no ball! Ganga was caught plumb in front of the wicket by Joginder Sharma but only to be denied when the Umpires arm came out signaling a no ball. 10 overs up and that was definitely a fresh and good start to the match. West Indies recovered and managed to get to 47/2 at the end of the 10 overs, Ganga this time leading from the front with 25* and Chanderpaul 12*. Both bowlers could of got more wickets but bowled very well overall. Good start.

20 overs gone
Pathan then comes in for Zaheer Khan and in only his second over, he gets the very important wicket of Ganga. A good innings which has given West Indies a glimmer of hope but the middle order has it all to do. West Indies batting hero in the last match, Sarwan, comes in which will make the match a whole lot more interesting. He isn't going to be getting a high score today though as Pathan picks up him for the second match in succession! A quick 11 by Sarwan isn't really going to help in the match now and West Indies are now struggling for runs, 82/4. The 20th over is called though and with the spin attack not doing well(Chawla anyway) it's been left up to the pace attack. Chanderpaul is still in on 30* as West Indies reach 90/4 at 4.5 an over but the seamers have just took them apart. More of the same please!

30 overs gone
The most boring 10 overs then came as there were no wickets and only a few boundaries. The last over was the only one worth writing about as Zaheer Khan got hit for 13 runs; Ryan Hinds the man to mainly hit him. West Indies have recovered incredibly well to put themselves in good stead at 134/4 off 30 overs and with Chanderpaul on 40* and Hinds on 37*, they still have a chance of getting a score worth defending. 200+ is going to be possible again for West Indies.

40 overs gone
Finally, pay back. We eventually get the breakthrough in the partnership as in the 32nd over, Ryan Hinds gets dismissed for 44(off 45) by Zaheer Khan to get his second wicket. A very exciting innings which has helped Windes dearly. Carlton Baugh nearly went on his first ball though as a lbw appeal is denied. Chanderpaul then brings up his 50 before then attacking Harbhajan Singh like a crazy man. Three fours, a two and a dot ball made the over before the last ball. Thankfully, he went high again but this time getting caught by Subram Badrinath. Well bowled there Singh. Calrton Baugh is then bowled by Singh in his next over as West Indies reach 196/7 at the end of their 40 overs. Bravo and Smith the last people who can bat before the tailend and West Indies have it all to do.

End of Innings
West Indies though play some calm cricket and reach the 200 mark quite easily. They score barely any runs but make 214 before the last over. Pathan then comes in to bowl the last over with West Indies on 214/7. Then came one of the best last overs I've ever seen. A maiden but he got two wickets in the process! The first two bowls both ended up being dot balls before Bravo then played and missed then he had a lbw appeal turned down. Bravo then finally went, lbw, for a mediocre score off 11. Nurse then came in to face the last ball and went and got a golden duck, last ball of the innings. 2 wickets in a row but he isn't allowed a chance at a hattrick! 214/9 the score that West Indies managed but I can't see it being enough, but we'll soon find out.

Well that's the end of the West Indies innings but they should of got a little more, but great death bowling by India to only concede 18 runs off the last 10 overs! We'll talk about the batting for West Indies first and it has been definitely improving since the start of the series. Chris Gayle went early for a mere 7 and then Lara soon followed for a 2 ball duck as West Indies had a poor start reaching 20/2. Ganga followed suit quickly after but only after getting a decent score of 31. Sarwan didn't last long, getting a quick 11 but then came the 61 run partnership off Chanderpaul and Hinds which only ended when Hinds went just before his half century, for 44 runs. Carlton Baugh then supported Chanderpaul, only this time it was Shivnarine's turn to get out as he got dismissed for 62 by Singh. As soon as Baugh(31) went then India bowled economically with Bravo(11) and Smith(8*) batting very slowly. India's bowling was decent and as usual there was one standout; Irfan Pathan. A repeat of the last match saw Pathan pick up 4 wickets, this time for a cheaper 34 runs. He ended up getting 2 wickets in the last 2 balls of the innings as well as his death bowling was very good. Chawla(0-43) was the only bowler to not get a wicket as it wasn't a spinners pitch but still Singh managed ok figures, 2-44. Joginder Sharma bowled as average as ever with his 1-50 but finally Zaheer Khan gave some bowling to cheer about. His 2-39 helped win the game and it's the best he's bowled all series. Now, India have got to chase down 214, which is the highest total they've had to chase all tour. Can they do it?

West Indies 214/9
Chanderpaul 62 Pathan 4-34
Hinds 44 Khan 2-39

India need 215 runs at 4.30 an over

Ahhh crap. Can I change my mind? India have this in the bag now. I'll be shocked if Windies win this. Once again Chander being the main man for Windies. Now there's a surprise

Great work Jazzy, keep it up

Woah, congratulations. This is so well presented, unlike mine. There is evidently so much work put into this, and must be in contention for story of the month/year.
