Story India's search for World Supremacy - Windies v India - 5th ODI up, 5-0 or 4-1?

yep, India should have this one 214 shouldnt be enough, getting gayle and Lara early really helped and also 18 runs off the last 10 overs  thats awesome bowling , great stuff jaz

Very easy target for Indians but the pitch looks poor to me so even the small total will be challenging.

India Win 4th ODI

Bravo.jpg

Dwanye Bravo disappoints with the ball yet again

The Indians are ready to start their innings after restricting West Indies to 214 runs. They bowled quite well, with the pace bowlers out doing the spinners for once. Irfan Pathan blew away all the other bowlers and finished with remarkable figures of 4-34. Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh both got 2 wickets and had the batsmen feared but Sharma and Chawla were very disappointing. 1-50 from Sharma and 0-43 is alot worse than what you would expect from a team of India's standard. None the less West Indies batting line up was much improved and thanks to Chanderpaul, Hinds, Ganga and Baugh, they built a decent score. An actual defendable score which they haven't had all series.

Opening 10 overs
A good strong start by the Indian openers is then seen to be obvious as India look to try and get the score as quick as they can. This nearly resulted in the first wicket of the afternoon though as Subram Badrinath edged one straight to Hinds, who could only drop the catch. Badrinath was dropped for 16, could that come back to haunt them? Finally the first wicket has come for West Indies as in the 10th over as Rawat goes for lbw. Nurse the man to get Rawat for 26 off 33. Biswal comes in to block the last ball as the 10 overs comes up. 45/1 the score which is a great start for India but would of been better had it not been for the late wicket. Badrinath has started brightly apart from his near catch but West Indies have started brightly too. Even at the moment.

20 overs gone
Dropped! The first over after the 10 overs and Biswal has already been dropped off Hinds' bowling by Carlton Baugh. After hitting Hinds for four he tried the same again but did a thick edge which was dropped. Lucky. Bravo then comes in to have a bowl at the Indian batsmen but it doesn't exactly go to plan as he concedes 22 runs off his first 4 overs. India continue to dominate and up their run rate and the tempo towards the end of the 20th over. India reached 94/1 at the 20th over stage which means they need 121 runs at 4.0 an over with 9 wickets in hand. Badrinath has been sensational as usual with his 38* knock off 48 balls. Biswal has done well in Tendulkar's spot as well with his 29* off 39 balls. India must be favourites now.

30 overs gone
Finally West Indies have held onto a catch. Sachin Tendulkar's replacement for India has gone as Biswal goes for 29. After hitting a century in the last match he has impressed alot and was unfortunate to go a sudden turn in the pitch deceived him. Dravid is the man in. The 100 then comes up for India as Dravid looks to attack the bowlers. 50 for Badrinath! He has been incredible this series, hitting a 50 in every innings this tour! A brilliant player. 4 after 4 after 4 is now coming as India are just tearing West Indies apart as they nearly reach 150 after 30 overs. 142/2 the score as India only need 73 runs at 3.6 an over with 8 wickets in hand. Badrinath(59*) and Dravid(27*) are playing some incredibly batting strokes and so far, deserve to stay in against a mediocre bowling performance from West Indies.

40 overs gone
Dravid oh so nearly went to Hinds as he was nearly trapped lbw. Hinds has easily been West Indies best bowler so far and that certainly showed when his last ball of the match for him resulted in the wicket of... Badrinath. He has been dismissed for 65 off 88 balls as another great innings come to an end. Suresh Raina then comes in to play his first match of the tour. India have sped up so much after a slow start to the last 10 overs as they managed to make 192/3 at the 40 over mark. Dravid just made his 50, which he has failed to do this series as he got to 53* at the end of the 40th over. Suresh Raina has impressed quite a bit since coming in to bat as he got to 17 off 18. Quite impressive I must say. With Hinds out and only Nurse/Jeremy left to bowl, India have got to be complete favourites now.

End of Innings
Needing only 23 off the last 10 overs and West Indies needing 7 wickets, there was only going to be one result here today and that duly came. Suresh Raina hit the winning runs as he completed a very good and collected 31* off 35 which involved lots of different strokes, a very promising innings. Dravid nearly top scored but with 61* off 82, he couldn't bypass Badrinath's innings. That means that India have won the series! It was a very comprehensive victory and one which the batting lineup from India dominated right from the start. Everyone scored over 26 and everyone batting very quickly, super stuff.

That's the end of the match and that's the end of the series in one aspect; we already have a winner. India have dominated every ODI so far and haven't really looked like losing many. We might as well start with the bowling of West Indies as when I talk about the Indian Batsmen I will probably ramble on. Only two bowlers bowled well today and unsurprisingly they were the only two to get wickets. Dwayne Bravo and Dwanye Smith both bowled terrible and didn't phase the batsmen at all with their 0-57 and 0-58. Kerry Jeremy was very poor also with 0-38 off his 8 overs but he looked a tad more promising of getting a wicket than Bravo and Smith. Ryan Nurse bowled quite well in the end picking up the wicket of Rawat which made West Indies have a chance in the match. His figures of 1-29 do compliment his bowling on a whole. Ryan Hinds once again was the best bowler picking up the wickets of Badrinath and Biswal who have performed very well this month. 2-31 off 10 overs meant Hinds was picked as their best bowler, which he deserved alot. Now onto the batting for India. We'll start with the openers. Chandan Rawat started as the number one and could only manage 26 runs although he hasn't really hit a big innings yet this series. He's shown lots of promise but he hasn't really taken it past the 30 mark. Subram Badrinath was just simply awesome once again as he went and scored 65 off 88 balls. That takes his average in this series to 144.50 and in the tour to 188.00 as this is the only the second time he's got out. He's going to be around in this team for a long time to come. We now come to the stand in number three Subit Biswal who has had the big shoes of replacing Sachin Tendulkar. He scored 100* in his first ODI and applied even more pressure on himself in this match. He crumble a little but was unlucky to get out as he scored a mere 29 off 41. A good effort. Dravid and Raina both didn't get out in this innings and batted very well together, 61* partnership which didn't look like stopping. Dravid's 61 from 82 balls was just incredible to watch and Raina's 31 off 35 was just breath taking stuff. Raina has definitely shown what he can do at the big stage, being only 19. A comprehensive win for India there, which nearly wraps up the series. Wicked.

India 215/3
Badrinath 65 Hinds 2-31
Dravid 61* Nurse 1-29

India win by 7 wickets

Man of the Match - Irfan Pathan

India got a well deserved win and I won some VCASH from it to, so it was a very good day. Great batting by Badrinath and Dravid won that game really, it could have been far from different if the WI had bowled better I must say.

Great work mate, keep it up!:)

Sorry for no update in the last two days but I've been really busy and had to do lots of stuff on another site and in real life. I should have an update done by today. :)

West Indies v India

india.gif

The final match of the One Day International series between India and West Indies which has been a decent series overall, with one real deserved winner. India have won all 4 of the ODIs and are likely to complete a white wash today but West Indies have been resisting the Indian team a little bit more in the last two matches. West Indies can't win the series now though as the best they can do is lose the series 4-1 but it would mean keeping some of their pride and taking some pride into the Test series. The pitch is going to give the bowlers an absolutely field day and the Batsman won't get much, if anything out of this pitch. All the players who haven't played an ODI this tour will be getting a match, here's the team:

Rawat
Badrinath
Biswal
Raina
Jaffer
Laxman(+)
Singh
Pathan
Kumble(*)
Patel
Singh

Four changes to the series winning Indian team then which includes 2 people who haven't played all series. India already lead the series 4-0 and don't really need to win this game and can probably use it to experiment to a certain extent. Chandan Rawat has kept his number one spot even though he could only manage a mere 26 runs in the last match and hasn't really scored big yet. Has played like Ganga has played for West Indies. Subram Badrinath is one of 4 players to play the 5th ODI of the tour and he has been one of the brilliant finds by James Edmonds. With no International experience coming into this tour he has done brilliant to average 144.50 from 4 ODI's including 3 50's and 1 100. An incredible overall performance in this tour from him so far. Subit Biswal keeps the 3rd spot ahead of Tendulkar to get his 3rd ODI cap. He has been sensational from what we have seen and averages just under Badrinath with 129.00. Suresh Raina also keeps his spot as the top 4 is unchanged. He one of the other players to have played all the games even though he has only batted once, scoring 31* which contributed well to the team. All the players from the number 5 spot and down haven't batted yet this series. Wasim Jaffer comes in to pick up a cap whilst Laxman keeps his spot for the third time in a row despite not making his way out to the pitch. The bowlers. Harbhajan Singh and Irfan Pathan have both played all the games and both have been incredible, Singh averaged 8.40 and Irfan averaging 15.40. Not bad at all. Anil Kumble comes in for his second game whilst we have two new players in, Munaf Patel and Gagandeep Singh. Hopefully they can kick start their ODI careers even though Patel has played 2 Tests and ODIs. West Indies have a chance against a makeshift Indian team but it is still incredibly strong. Gonna be close I reckon.

Gayle
Ganga
Lara(*)
Chanderpaul
Sarwan
Hinds
Baugh(+)
Bravo
Smith
Mohammed
Jaggernauth

Just the two changes for West Indies as Nurse and Jeremy go out for Mohammed and Jaggernauth. Chris Gayle has batted well for West Indies this tour with an average of 45.20 but he hasn't really been backed up alot by Ganga to go and increase his average. Ganga averages a mere 22.09 which only 3 players in the starting 11 have less than. Brian Lara and Shivnarine Chanderpaul both average 33 which is a bit disappointing for both the guys as they are truly expected to take West Indies by the helm and win them games single handedly. Ramnaresh Sarwan has batted very well and has the second best average, high 35, and he has nearly won a few games whilst batting with Gayle. Hinds, Baugh and Bravo have all batted like expected which is better than how Ganga has done. Dwayne Smith has batted rather poorly but he has bowled quite well so that makes up for it. In what seems to be mainly a bowlers series it isn't surprising to see that West Indies have 3 bowlers that average in the 10's. Hinds averaging the best with 10.64 whilst Mohammed(13.25) and Jaggernauth(16.12) lack just behind. Smith has bowled decent this series averaging just over 23 but the big disappointment on the bowling side of things has been Bravo who averages a massive 51. He has got to improve that if he wants to feature in the Test team.

Coin Toss

Hello and thank you for joining down here at the Coin Toss. The pitch here today has to be favouring the bowlers by a vast majority and with such an incredible sun all day long, this just can't be beaten. The bounce is even which will offer little help to the batsman and the wear on the pitch is average which will help the bowlers. The outfield is average and it's back to this normal outfield after only one fast outfield all series. The light is very good which still hasn't changed all series and which has been blessed upon us. The forecast is sunny all day but at the start there will be overcast conditions but there will still be sun and no sign of rain so there is going to be some swing in the pitch today but for the main part it will be good for both sets of bowlers. Anil Kumble makes the call of heads and... wins! Anil Kumble then decides to bowl first. Probably taking advantage of the swing and seam which will be around for the bowlers in the first part of the day and India have won all the ODIs so far when they have bowled first. Even though they have won all of them but that's not the point...

Munaf Patel Destroys West Indies Batsmen

MunafPatel.jpg

Munaf Patel absolutely decimates West Indies as they reach a mere 86

The last and final One Day International of the series between India and West Indies. It has been a one horse race for the majority of the series but West Indies have started playing better towards the end of the series. Too little too late as they say. Well the West Indian batsman are out and to open the innings for West Indies will be the pair that have opened for them in every match, Chris Gayle and Sherwin Ganga. With the changed Indian team out the opening bowlers for India to start us off today will be Irfan Pathan, India's best seamer, and Munaf Patel. Only 21 and 22 respectively, a very young opening bowling partnership.

Opening 10 overs
Not much seems to be happening in the first few overs of the match as West Indies fail to hit some runs of the very tight India bowling. The first chance comes and it is Sherwin Ganga who nearly goes for 2 but his edge is met by no fielder. There was no gully! It doesn't matter though as in the next over he is bowled for a mere 5 runs by 22 year year old Munaf Patel. A lovely out swinging yorker had Ganga all confused and resulted in the first wicket of the day. Ganga hasn't been the best this series and with getting out there means his average with the bat for this series is a very poor 12.60. Chris Gayle, who has been one of West Indies most consistent batsmen nearly went in the next over as a slow ball by Pathan nearly got him but he made no contact, resulting in a played and missed. Gone! Both the openers are gone within the first 10 overs! Chris Gayle the man to be removed by the same man as Ganga, Munaf Patel. A bouncer by Patel was not read by Gayle and he hit it straight up with Raina getting the catch. A poor score of 10 off 32 for Gayle who has averaged 22.80 this series. Better than Ganga but still not good enough. Shivnarine Chanderpaul now in and the first bowl coming up... wow that was so wide that Laxman had to dive for it! Then some brilliant bowling came as Munaf Patel composes himself and gets Chanderpaul two balls later! Another duck to add to West Indies tally for the series. A normal delivery was sliced at by Chanderpaul and it went straight through to the keeper. Very sloppy cricket. That means Chanderpaul's average for this series, including this innings, is 27.80. Not bad but with no-one else really averaging high, you expect someone like Chanderpaul to exceed his expectations. Sensational! Incredible! What an over for India. The third wicket of the over and Sarwan goes for a duck after only facing 2 balls. Munaf's 4th wicket of the day and his 4th different wicket of the day as he gets Sarwan plumb in front of the wicket. He only stayed out there for just over a minute! 23.20 is a poor average for someone of Ramnaresh Sarwan's ability but it is still higher than both the openers. With the wicket of Sarwan being the last ball of the over, West Indies reach 24/4. Irfan Pathan bowled well with his figures of 5 overs for 0 wickets and only 9 runs. Munaf Patel was mesmerizing though as his figures outstanded everyone. 4-12 off 5 overs! India surely have it in the bag now.

20 overs gone
With Pathan coming out and Guangadeep Singh coming in to bowl in a ODI match for the first time, India decide to take the second powerplay. I can see West Indies making a small comeback, but Brian Lara will be vital if they do. Munaf Patel comes out of the bowling attack as well as Anil Kumble comes in to bowl for the second times this series. Some tight bowling by Singh and Kumble is then nearly rewarded as Brian Lara, on 7 runs, plays and misses a wide bowl from Singh. Very close there! After 15 overs with the score on 32/4, India take the third and final powerplay. In the next over though there is nearly another wicket, this time Hinds the man nearly getting out. With only 4 runs to his name in this innings he was nearly seen lbw but the appeal was turned down by the umpire. The tension down there must be massive! West Indies then decide to get some more runs towards the end of the 10 overs as India fail to capitalize on their amazing start. 49/4 is the score with both Lara and Hinds on 14*. Kumble bowled very well, managing 0-9 off his 5 overs, but Singh was a little expensive even though he nearly got a wicket. 0-16 his figures. India still hot favourites but West Indies can still make a comeback and get a defendable score? I don't think so but you never know with Lara at the crease.

30 overs gone
With Singh getting more expensive over by over, India Coach James Edmonds makes a change bringing Harbhajan Singh in for Guangadeep Singh. Pathan is also brought back into the attack for Anil Kumble as India try to keep one spinner and one seamer. Pathan then gets the wicket everyone wants in this match, that of Brian Lara. With West Indies not in the best situation on 49/5 now, India are looking certain for a win. 14 off 40 by Brian Lara became his final figures when he edged it through to Wasim Jaffer in the slips. Brian Lara averages only 10 in this series from 5 innings, which included 2 ducks. Very poor series for him. Ryan Hinds then nearly goes to next over as India appeal for a catch behind, but he then goes in that over to Singh! 15 was his score, 1 better than Lara, but he gave his wicket away as a top edge went straight to Raina. Hinds has been one of West Indies best batsman and with him out, 100 is going to be a tough target. His average of 22.40 in the series isn't the best but he has been the best all round player for West Indies. Singh then gets a dot ball as his second over comes to an end. 2 maidens for 1 wicket isn't bad! Some very good tight bowling then came with Pathan going out for Patel but no more wickets could be taken as West Indies head to 63/6 off 30 overs. Carlton Baugh, 6, and Dwayne Bravo, 5, are the men in at the moment but have been defending most of their balls. Singh has bowled incredibly well as off his 5 overs he has only conceded 3 runs and he got that one wicket. Patel came back into the attack and finished the 30th of with stats of 4-14 off 7 overs. Brilliant bowling here.

40 overs gone
The two Singhs then started bowling as India were finding it hard to get a wicket, although West Indies were finding it hard to get some runs! As West Indies look to finally start hitting some strokes, they lose a wicket. Munaf Patel coming back into the attack to get his 5fer as he gets Carlton Baugh in front of the wicket for 15 runs. 10.20 was his disastrous average for this series but at least it's better than Lara's! Dwayne Bravo then goes the next over as it looks like West Indies won't be managing 100 runs! Kumble finally got his first wicket of the day as Bravo edged one into the slips for Jaffer to get his second catch of the day. 10 runs for Bravo was all he could master though as his average for the series is around 15, disappointing batting from the 22 year old. Patel then went and got the 9th wicket of the day as Dave Mohammed got caught behind for a small 3 runs. Great bowling by Patel nearly resulted in him getting his 7th wicket the next ball as Jeremy played and missed but it didn't hit the stumps. The 40th over is up and West Indies have batted terribly as they have only got 84/9. A terrible score. Patel has just single handedly taken them apart with his figures of 6-18 off 9 overs.

End of Innings
Well theres the end of the West Indies innings. Patel came in and with his last ball he got his 7th wicket of the day and the wicket of Amit Jaggernauth to get another person out for a duck! Only 86 is what West Indies could manage as Patel just decimated everyone with his 7-19 figures. Jaggernauth went for lbw as Patel gets his first wicket maiden, or maiden in fact, of the match. I don't think 86 is going to be enough to win the match though..

That's the West Indies batting innings out of the way then and as you can see by their score, it was a very disappointing innings. The batting from West Indies had been improving in the most recent matches but they went back to what they did earlier in the series and didn't even manage 100! The entire batting card is very disappointing, especially the top order. Chris Gayle could only manage 10 runs and his opening partner, Ganga, could only average 5. You need your openers to give you a good start to the innings but Gayle and Ganga couldn't even give their team some decent foundations. Brian Lara then came in and made 14, which by his standards is very poor and with the match situation how it was, it was even worse. Chanderpaul and Sarwan came and both got ducks as West Indies just couldn't get the runs and were getting out to Patel everytime. Hinds and Baugh then came and made 15 which isn't that bad a score for the lower order, but with the top order doing so bad, they needed to do better. Bravo had immense pressure as the number 8 to get the runs after the crumble from before him but he could only manage 10 runs. The tailenders could only add a further 7 to the total though as West Indies struggled to get going in the game. Taking away no credit from the Indian bowlers, just that West Indies got themselves into the hole. Guangadeep Singh wasn't as good as we hoped he would be as he got 0-24 off hi 8 overs at 3 an over which isn't bad; he just couldn't get a wicket. Pathan, Kumble and Singh all got 1 wicket with Harbhajan Singh being the best of that bunch with his 1-7 off 8 overs! Now the man of the match for sure, with the bowling of the series most definitely, was Munaf Patel. Before this series he had played 2 ODI matches and had bowled 15 overs for 84 runs and no wickets. Now he comes into this match and gets 7 wickets! Scrap that, he comes into this match and gets his best bowling figures of his career! 7-19 were his incredible figures and are definitely one of the highlights of the tour. Now moving away from the bowling and onto the match situation. India need only 87 runs from their 50 overs to get their first whitewash under James Edmonds as they have won every game. It is inevitable that they get the whitewash, surely?

West Indies 86 all out
Hinds 15 Patel 7-19
Baugh 15 Singh 1-7

India need 87 runs at 1.74 an over
