India's tour of Australia - December/January 2015

1 -Dhawan, Vijay, Pujara, Kohli, Rahane, Raina, MSD, Ashwin, Yadav, Aaron, Ishant.

This sounds about right, and will most likely be very close to what the lineup will actually be. Raina might be replaced with Rohit, bcz looking at his history he always gets a long leash.

I would still pick Rohit over Raina. However, he needs to prove himself with a big knock if he wants to stay in the team. Other changes would be Ashwin in place of Karn and Umesh Yadav in for Shami. I also hope that they come up with a different plan for Warner because that round the wicket plan was absolute garbage.

Haven't we been saying that for the past 5 years now :P He scored 264 last month, and we still have zero confidence in his ability to perform in match situations. Says a lot about him

I feel like he needs to be given a consistent go in test cricket before reaching a conclusion. He has performed good enough in domestic cricket to get into final 11. It's just his lazy approach at the start of the inning that denies him to make that solid start which he really needs right now.

Fair enough. I do agree that he should be given atleast another game now that he has been picked (although my choice for the first test would have been Raina). One correction - I would say he has a lazy approach throughout his innings. Even when he gets a start, he somehow manages to throw it away. Especially in games that matter or in challenging situations

Right guys which of the two line ups would you agree with this line up for tonight's test -

1 -Dhawan, Vijay, Pujara, Kohli, Rahane, Raina, MSD, Ashwin, Yadav, Aaron, Ishant.

2 - Vijay, Rahane, Pujara, Kohli, Raina, MSD, [Binny/Jadeja/Shami] (depending on pitch), Ashwin, Yadav, Aaron, Ishant

Obviously the first one. I don't think we need 5 bowlers on a wicket which is expected to provide help to the fast bowlers. For the 7th batsman, I would take Raina who is a better bowler than Rohit Sharma and if we need the cushion of another spinner, we can use him.

I pray that Aaron is persisted. I mean, he needs to be given opportunities. you can't expect him to fire if he is played off an on. He showed glimpses of what he can do in England in that Old Trafford test. He needs time. Also would be a seriously exciting prospect seeing Aaron and Yadav bowling in tandem together along with the lanky Ishant Sharma. Both of these guys might spray around, but they have the pace to trouble the Aussie batsmen.

Apparently its not just you, since this is the second post of this type in this thread.

I personally don't see a problem with this, and its definitely not cringe-worthy. If we can have extravagant good-bye ceremonies when players retire (Sachin, etc), then surely the Aussies are allowed to dedicate their milestones to Phil without having their intentions and emotions being questioned ?

You're assuming I like such extravagant good byes. A players retires, he gets a press conference, a pat on the back and that's that. No need to make out like Sachin was a God or sumat

I think Rohit is Confused Between Formats........

He makes Double centuries in ODIs and 40s and 50s in TEST.

Kohli reminds me of Sachin as well. Not because of his batting style, which is fairly different. But just the way he approaches his innings. The way he came in and attacked Lyon and Co. was very reminiscent of Sachin in his prime, who could turn the game on its head with his attacking flair. Plus he was constantly innovating as the bowlers changed their tactics - stepping outside off stump against Lyon to negate leg before chances. Wonderful player to watch. May his run scoring continue *knock on wood*

In fact I actually think their batting style is quite similar. Not exactly similar but pretty darn similar. Their stances could be slightly different but they both are excellent timers of the ball and both of them unlike the others relying on timing and placing the ball unlike going hard at the ball like someone like Sehwag would. They both punch the ball along the ground pretty good and pick gaps. They are excellent drives of the ball. Both approach their innings with strategy and plans which makes them so good. Yeah his 141 was excellent it was just brilliant. I think he got beaten like 4-5 times in that whole innings when all the others failed to play Lyon freely and they seemed hesitant. This guy just came in and used his wrists so good to smother that spin and just attacked him.

It would not be an easy task to analyze if Kohli had a change in technique compared to his batting in that horror England tour. For one, Australian conditions were always expected to be in Kohli's zone (not too much lateral movement). Also he was batting at Adelaide which is a batting beauty. Yes it was an exceptional innings in the 2nd innings, but Kohli never has had problems with the turning ball as much as his problems against the moving ball.

We need to see his batting in more challenging conditions and also preferably at a place where there is enough movement on the ball.

I do agree with you to an extent. I would advise you to watch the youtube video of his 100 against South Africa on the first day at the Wanderers where the ball was doing moving, not as much as it would in England but Steyn was getting it to curve with his pace and everything. Also, we got rolled over at Adelaide in 2011 and I don't think it can be called a batting beauty. It does favor batting but I still think if you bowl well you can get wickets on that pitch. I would not say he has problems with the moving ball in fact bring on Anderson right now and I'm confident Kohli would destroy him with his timing and placement. That next England tour, Anderson is going to find out for sure. Well this green wicket at the Gabba might let us see how Kohli bats.

Does anyone understand why Yadav was not selected to play the first test? He was our highest wicket taker last time in 2011 and I simply don't understand the logic behind having him sit the first match and now possibly at the Gabba. I just don't think Shami is a better bowler than Yadav because he doesn't have control. Yadav has improved his control and should be given a go. It just doesn't make sense as to why he is not playing given the success he had last time. Also, the day Dhoni drops Rohit I will be so happy. He just doesn't get along with tests and he shouldn't play in tests, I think Raina can make a better test player than Rohit. If we had Raina or Dhoni in a situation like at Adelaide on Day 5 we would have won the game, it's hard to imagine either of those two not helping finish such a close game. Or even if we had both of them it would helped us so much. My line up for tonights test would be:

Vijay, Rahul (even though it won't happen), Pujara, Kohli, Rahane, Raina, Dhoni, Ashwin, Yadav, Ishant, and Aaron.

This lineup has depth and quality.

Also, the amount of rough that was outside the off stump at Adelaide had more to do with the amount of around wicket delieveries for Warner and Rogers. I think our bowlers made it even worse for us.

What do you guys think India should do if we win the toss ?

Internet says scattered Thunderstorms expected this morning, and tomorrow evening. And Morning showers on Sunday. Temperatures in the 28-35C range (http://www.weather.com/wx/10day?locid=-27.47,153.02&locale=en_US). Maybe the locals can share more info on how the weather looks over the next few days

Yeah I too hope so. I just said it would be tough to currently view any evidence for the changes in technique that Kohli has made. I would celebrate if Kohli can crush England's bowlers when we tour them next. I have a feeling he is going to do that next time. He will be very hungry, and would be thirsting for revenge

Cricinfo's probable India XI has an unchanged fast bowling attack. I just hope that's not the case. I would like to see Yadav in for Brisbane, preferably for Shami. Ishant was our best bowler at Adelaide and should be the leader of the attack. I would keep Aaron for his pace and cut him slack due to his inexperience.

All the changes I wanted, time to kick some ass and get a 1st win at the Gabba!

Right we got option 1, which was most likely to begin with. I would have still preferred Raina over Rohit. Ah well, at least we will no longer one Rohit brainfreeze delivery away from having the innings wrapped up. MSD and Aswhin to follow now.[DOUBLEPOST=1418773920][/DOUBLEPOST]Whats with Star Sports being so lazy in their broadcast, no pitch report, no toss nothing. Everything I am getting is of cricinfo.
