India's tour of Australia - December/January 2015

Stuart Binny's selection is an absolute joke

But I guess it helps when his dad is on the selection committee :facepalm

Extremely disrespectful to the ODI record holder for most runs in an inns. I am sure you will be expecting him to figure in a probable world cup winning team come March.

Nohit is incapabale of scoring anywhere else apart from the subcontinent. It would be a surprise in case he even manages a century in Australia.

watson , haddin n marsh to get a century smith as usual..we are looking at 700 here

What about Starc and the others? 1100.

Who else could have come in ? He lends a decent option with the bat as well as with the ball. Jadeja isn't certain for the Cup and we havent really had a great knock from Sir RJ in the ODIs that he has played. Not saying that Binny is the best batsman, but he can certainly double up as an all-rounder.

A lot ppl will comment about how Roger selected hi son; the bigger picture being that we required 5 seamers; of the 4 selected none can bat barring Bhuvi. If you need a guy for those lusty blows- Binny it will be.

Guys, before we start happily saying that "oh so you dissed Dhoni; see what Kohli is doing", we need to understand that Kohli was not the captain when the squad for this test series was picked. Considering how Indian captains have been strong with their opinions in team selections, Kohli who is a strong and aggressive personality was not part of the selection committee meeting that picked the squad for this series. So essentially, he captained a squad that was meant for Dhoni. Which means, Kohli has been stand-in captain only for this series.

His permanent captaincy will start late next year when we play our next test series. So to rate his captaincy on his two tests (Adelaide and Sydney) here in this series is not justified at all.

On the World Cup squad, an alright squad. They have taken the risk of going along with Jadeja by adding an additional spinner in there as backup. I would have instead gone with Yuvraj Singh who is a specialist batsman and probably as decent a bowler as Jadeja. Binny is a waste of space and I agree. I guess they didn't have enough faith in Bhuvaneshwar Kumar's batting to pick another bowler for Binny. All in all, the WC squad is decent and it all depends on our bowlers if we need to compete hard in the tournament.

He lends a decent option with the bat as well as the ball ? Since when ?

His domestic record is abysmal, both as a bowler and a batsman - List A batting average of 22. Has played 3 test matches in seam-conducive conditions, and has gone wicketless. Etc. Etc.

And if you have actually seen him bowl or bat, you will know that he is brimming with mediocrity !! His bowling is not at all suited to Aus conditions. Its a dumb decision through and through.

Who else could have come in ? Not sure, but if Binny is one of the best 15 ODI players in our country, then the future is dark !!
And in any case, I would rather pick up a specialist instead of a player who can neither bowl or bat properly ![DOUBLEPOST=1420565960][/DOUBLEPOST]I think this demand for 5 seamers is unnecessary too. Why don't we just pick the best bowlers available ? In ODIs, on the big grounds available Down Under, the spinners can be more than handful.

like abhijacko said " he is brimming with mediocrity " he can be passed of as pacer only in indian domestic setup.

lol..while im not dissing on kohli just because its his first match as full time captain and squad is inexperienced.. but bottom line i will quote this from cricinfo

" No point in changing the cap of the bottle if the contents are bad, a shining cap will not yield better sales!!!! India's test team bowling attack - ZERO!!! Captain Cool or Captain Aggressive. No difference!!!! "

n this

"Whats the fuss all about. MSD did not have a farewell test. This is the tribute to MSD by Indian Bowlers to show the world that there was nothing wrong with him. "

and i would like to know this selections that you are talking of thats hidden somewhere...:p this was the best possible squad may be a spinner like mishra/ojha could have been there but this attack unit is best way forward.

I can see why you are supporting Yuvraj and I understand that he played a great role in our world cup win 4 years ago. Let's not forget that recently he cost us the T20 World Cup by keeping Kohli off strike for a good 20-25 balls. His performance has been bad recently and they have been giving him more chances but he hasn't taken them. I would have liked to see Murali Vijay as a back up opener at least because he knows how to bat on the Australian pitches and he could be a good opener for us, but I think the selectors think his technique is more suited to tests which I can completely see.[DOUBLEPOST=1420586364][/DOUBLEPOST]This Sydney pitch is absolutely boring as of now. It's just good for batting and that's not what an ideal pitch should be. Even Adelaide had something in it for the bowlers on the 1st day but this pitch is just ridiculous. They are just trying to make the match last full 5 days so they get that extra money.

If that indeed is the reason, then the selectors are a bunch of knuckleheads. Anyone who follows IPL would know that Vijay can wreck havoc on the opposition in the shorter format - 2 IPL hundreds, one of which was a 56 ball 127 against RR :)

Personally expect we've generally seen slightly less typical Australian test wickets this series due to the fact that the series timing has obviously been pushed around a little bit perhaps giving more time for the pitches to dry out as they were already nearly prepared.

I think it's pretty clear that Harris was right in criticising the curators. Been producing pitches to try and insure five day tests to make the most money out of a lucrative series rather than trying to accommodate a decent contest between bat and ball.

Truly we are in the batsmans era of the game.

I like How people blame Dhoni & Defend Kohli for same thing :p .

How keeping Pujara out is aggressive captaincy .

Pretty sure no one defended Kohli for the sames reasons as Dhoni. SaiSrini defended him on totally different grounds

And pretty sure no one said dropping Pujara was an aggressive captaincy move :| (dumbest move of the series)

Our Slip Fielding is just awesome. 9 players have already been tested in that cordon this series.
