International Cricket 2010 Discussion Thread

Also not to mention that they have to sell it for next to nothing in the Indian market, I think it was around 7 US dollars last time. I don't know who made that decision but they should be fired. Id rather not sell my product then sell it for such an insultingly low price (which they pirated anyways)

Rs 450 is actually more like 65 US dollars in terms of purchasing power parity (1:7); converting the absolute price of a product or service based on exchange rates is fallacious.

PPP provides a framework for a more apples-to-apples comparison, and basically implies that in terms of buying power 1 USD equals 7 Rs. So, they didn't sell it for next to nothing - they sold it for a relative price (around USD 65) that is higher than what most PC/Console games in the US are sold for.

Was a smart pricing strategy IMHO. And the relative price was not much different, rather slightly costlier, compared to the price elsewhere in the world.

Purchasing power does not mean anything to Codies, they make their profits in dollars/pounds not in rupees.

It depends, were the 2-3 odd thousand copies enough to cover the cost of distribution and advertising in that region ?

Good on them for trying with AC09 but you have to understand why they are not willing to try again with IC09.
Hah, I can tell you there was absolutely no advertising here. And the above post pretty much has most of my thoughts written bang on. Its relative sales here, rather than absolute sales.

You can't expect in a market like this (The one I described in my previous post) to sell 20000-25000 copies even if it was for 200 bucks, in the first go. People are just too attuned to those sources for games and softwares, and it will take time. It has to start somewhere, and AC09 and GTA IV gave it a much needed start.

Did the ps3 version sell well in India? im sure they will release IC10 for ps3 there at the appropriate price.

Well, the PPP analogy was really more in response to your comment about it being sold for next to nothing in India. Not sure where Codies making their profits in dollars/pounds comes in :)

I'm not really sure, considering the low number of PS3's in India to begin with, and even less number of people buying games which aren't the most famous titles due to their enormous price (I think most PS3 games are 2500 to 3000 bucks, sid can enlighten you on that. For a poor comparison, I'd say that has round about the same value here as 125 Coca Cola cans, or about 100 burgers from McDonalds.)

*IF* they had some sort of security online in Ashes 09 so only original copies could go through, they would have had something at least like 10x the sales. A tiny bit of advertisement in a cricket crazy country (with a billion people) about a cricket videogame doesn't sound like a bad idea either.

And there's not many console owners in India, IC2010 probably won't sell anything much there.

Good point here, AC09 did not help themselves with a lack of a cdkey. Anyone could download it from torrent and play online easily. Codies got what they deserved in that aspect.

Its like they were just asking for it to be pirated. With IPL4+WC next year in India, EA better be thinking about releasing a fully licensed cricket game, because people are going to buy the cricket games without thinking.

A game in the uk costs about the same as 125 coke cans. So what if indians cant afford it then they'll have to miss out.

I just found out some comments by a former employee of TG on a site. I found following interesting.

"In all fairness, the guys and girls who worked on AC2009 really did put a lot of work and effort into it trying to make the best cricket title around. You can't even begin to understand the amount of passion and work put into it. Unfortunately, you also couldn't know just how much of a train wreck the whole project was and the external issues that made it so".

However i would suggest to read the all the comments in the link below. They are also interesting, to say the least.

Sounds like a bleeding mess to say the least. Hopefully this game can be developed in more positive settings.

So, it's a tentative release date of July 1. That doesn't give them much time - unless of course they worked hard over the last 3 or 4 months. Who knows.

Looks like someone is pretty upset about not being included in the reformed Transmission games. I do believe his comment about Ashes 09 though, it really was the best cricket game released after BLC 99 and that's why it was a success.
