Due to the lack of interest in the 1991/2 League I started I am going to continue with another idea with Welwyn.
This thread will be a collaborative story between myself and Welwyn based on England's travels through International cricket from the 1991/2 season to whenever we get to.
Welwyn will pick the England and England A teams for the story and I will sim the matches using Owzat Cricket Games International Cricket and an Excel Helper.
Tours will be similar to real life with some extra Tour matches and extra Tours and Series/Matches here and there as we see fit.
The history we built up in the previous 1991/2 thread I started will apply and I will copy over the match reports from that thread to keep everything in one place.
England's first two assignments in the 1991/2 season are a Test tour of New Zealand and an England A tour of India.

More to follow...

Here are some links to stats generated in the story...

Cumulative Test Match averages from story including real life stats up to October 1991/2

Cumulative ODI averages from story including real life stats up to October 1991/2

Auckland XI v England XI - 50 over match - at Eden Gardens, Auckland - 1991/2

Pitch:
3 - Normal Wicket

England XI won by 49 runs

Man of the Match:

The England XI won their opening tour match comfortably after an aggressive 132 by opener Alec Stewart and a cheap 4 wicket haul to the Medium pace of Graham Gooch.
Blair Pocock and Jeff Crowe batted well for half centuries for the home side before the middle and lower order crumbled to some tight bowling.

Auckland XI v England XI - 3 day match - at Eden Park, Auckland - 1991/2

Man of the Match:
B.A.Pocock

Auckland XI opener Blair Pocock saved his side from defeat with an unbeaten 121* in the home side's 2nd innings after his team had collapsed on the 1st day.
The match finished with a lot of positives for the England XI who remain unbeaten on tour after their first 3 matches.

India Board President's XI v England A - 4 day match - Bangalore - 1991/2

Pitch:
- 89 - Badly prepared wicket with both umpires and skippers already talking about preparing written complaints that this is offered as a Test match surface.
The pitch is dusty and uneven and must surely help all types of bowler right from the start.
The match will go ahead, but under protest.

Day 1 Starting Pitch: - 7 - Uneven Bounce

Day 1 Weather: - 2 - Hot and Sunny

Injuries: - T.A.Munton - Feeling Unwell (miss 1 match)

Toss: England A

England A won by 33 runs

Man of the Match:
V.V.S.Laxman

England A won their first game of their tour of India after their spinners bowled out the home side for 96 in their 2nd innings chasing 130 to win on a pitch Taking Spin.
Uneven Bounce earlier in the match meant batsmen struggled throughout the game with the exception of VVS Laxman who made an excellent 155 in the home side's 1st innings.
Left arm Medium Fast bowler Mark Ilott took 5-66 in the in the home side's 1st innings before offspinners Robert Croft and Mike Watkinson bowled their side to victory in the 2nd.

Toss: Auckland

England won by 8 wickets

Man of the Match:

Breaking News...Kim Barnett called up for England A Tour

After being unlucky to miss the England A probables list, experienced Derbyshire batsman Kim Barnett has been called up late for the England A tour of India by team management.
The selection is as much for Barnett's handy legspin bowling as his batting and he might get plenty of overs on Indian pitches if the main bowlers fail to strike.
Barnett had an excellent County season with bat and ball in 1991 and seems the perfect fit for the conditions.
His baldness equates to vast experience.

Back to England A in India now, a 3 day match v Bombay.

Wankhede.jpg

Bombay v England A - 3 day match - Wankhede Stadium, Bombay - 1991/2

Pitch:
- 66 - A nicely prepared pitch with the promise of an even contest between batsman and bowler.
Some early pace in the wicket may make the winning the Toss prove a mixed blessing, but the wicket is likely to favour the spinners on the final day.

Day 1 Starting Pitch: - 7A - Fast Paced Wicket

Day 1 Weather: - 2 - Hot and Sunny

Injuries: - D.J.Capel- Shoulder Injury (miss 1 match) - MC Ilott - Back Strain (miss 1 match)

Drawn

Man of the Match:
R.J.Shastri

Experienced spin bowling allrounder and current India opener Ravi Shastri had a final match double 144 and 88 with the bat and took 5 wickets with the ball but the 3 day match at Bombay was left Drawn.
The match also featured centuries to England A batsmen Martyn Moxon and John Crawley as the visitors piled on 151 before Lunch on the 1st Day on a Fast Paced Wicket.
The Draw means England A remain unbeaten after 2 games heading into the 1st Unofficial 4 day Test v India A at Delhi.

Now back to the England tour of New Zealand, the tourists 3rd three day game.

Hamilton.jpg

New Zealand Emerging Players XI v England XI - 3 day match - at Hamilton - 1991/2

Pitch:
An underprepared wicket, not the best advertisement for the groundsman's skills.
There are patches of green at both endsaround a length, and batting is likely to be difficult against the quickies on the first day.
After the spite wears off there will be runs to be had, but by day 3 the spinners should come into their own and this could be a match dominated by the bowlers.

Day 1 Starting Pitch: 6 - Green Wicket

Day 1 Weather: 8 - Overcast

Toss: England XI

Drawn

Man of the Match:
R.K.Illingworth

England gained more positives from a Drawn match at Hamilton through unbeaten centuries by batsmen Mike Atherton and Nasser Hussain.
The match also featured some good bowling by Left arm Spinner Richard Illingworth who finished the game with 7 wickets.
The home side put in a decent effort in the bat with 93 in the first innings to opener Blair Pocock and an unbeaten 90* in the 2nd to Lorne Howell.

India A v England A - 1st Unofficial 4 day Test - at Delhi - 1991/2

Pitch:
- 69 - A pitch hardly up to Test standard, with the surface already cracked and crumbling in some places.
Bowlers will dominate this match and unless the weather intervenes it is unlikely to go the full 5 days.
Indeed, it might be wise for the paying public to avoid buying their 4th day tickets at this stage as well!
The pitch should initially favour the faster bowlers before offering some extreme spin on Day 3 and 4.

Day 1 Starting Pitch: - 6B - Dry and Cracked (favours Movement off the Pitch deliveries by Fast and Fast Medium bowlers)

Day 1 Weather: - 3 - Sunny, some cloud about

Injuries: - None

Toss: India A

India A won by 411 runs

Man of the Match:
A.Kumble

India A won the 1st Unofficial 4 day Test by the massive margin of 411 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the 6 match series.
The victory was set up by the home side's batsman as they piled on a first innings total of 554 thanks to centuries by captain Saurav Ganguly and keeper Nayan Mongia.
The India A bowlers then backed up the batsmen with legspinner Anil Kumble snaring 8 wickets for the match on a pitch that was Taking Spin and then Showing Signs of Damage and the rest of the bowlers chipping in.
There were almost no positives in the match for England and their tour stats take a huge dent leading into the 2nd Unofficial 4 day Test.
