In ODI cricket, yes he is. In Test Cricket, no.

His a better ODI batsman then Lara or Inzamam was and easily a better batsman in Twenty20 then both of them aswell.
Wow, are you extremely biased.

Symonds is NOWHERE near the class of Inzamam.

I know there are way better batsmen than Inzamam, but I'm going to use him for comparision as he is part of the top 10 batsmen in the past decade.

First of all, Symonds has not played as many PRESSURE innings as Inzamam. Inzamam is by far a better batsman and a better tactician than Symonds.

I will have the statistics up in a mintue :)

don't care what form of game it is Symonds will never be better than Lara,

Symonds and Inzamam are different kinds of players. Although both are (were) brilliant in their respective roles.

Most overrated cricketer - Shaun Tait, S Sreesanth

Average of 32.04 against Test quality opposition is hardly NEVER performing.

That is a pretty average average. He is not good in the longer version of the game and does not have the temparement

Should be taking four or more wickets on a Day Four track which offers him some assistance, though. He's okay, but he is really showing himself as a substandard spinner in some occasions with his often poor accuracy. As someone who can't field or bat, he really needs to distinguish himself more with the ball. He did get at least one shocking not out decision, from the two overs I saw at tea in my Saturday game, though.

He is actually very accurate - he just lacks variety. As you could see, although he drags the odd one down, he rarely failed to hit the footmarks.

He drags far too many down and these are wasted deliveries on any wicket.

He had a bad last few overs but he wouldn't be an effective holding spinner if he leaked runs, would he?

Panesar has an economy rate of 2.85. He is a holding bowler as well as an attacking one. My point is, if he regularly dragged the ball down or bowled the wrong line, we would be expensive which he clearly isn't. If he's inaccurate, he's not doing his job.

Dragged down balls are often easily blocked. It does not have to be pull-able to be too short.

Today was an anomaly. Either he was tired or he lost concentration but that amount of drag downs is irregular for any spin bowler let alone Monty. He isn't usually that erratic.

Today was a poor day for him, but by no means an anomaly - he really is not earning enough Test wickets and it is soon going to hurt his statistics as batsmen stop gifting their wickets to him. The issue is that he can extract very good spin for a finger spinner, but he simply does not probe the right lengths often enough.
