Well we were suppose to bat today, looks like we didn't turn up.

Chasing a target of 359 on day two of their second-round match against Combined Districts, New Zealand A were dismissed for just 157 ? losing by 202 runs.

Aaron Redmond, with 47, and Neil Broom, 39, were the only batsmen to post notable scores, while a late stand of 23 from Brendon Diamanti went unsupported at the other end as he ran out of partners.

The New Zealanders had started the day solidly but slowly, with Redmond and BJ Watling posting 42 for the first wicket. Watling fell on 17, and captain Peter Fulton went for a duck four runs later, and NZA went to lunch on 85 for 2 in 32 overs ? behind the asking rate but still in touch.

Do any of the "A" team players happen to have the misfortune of our first team and contracted stomach bugs?

New Zealand had a good win in their last two game in India, Tarun Nethula and Nathan McCullum picked up seven wickets between them.

New Zealand A ? 240 all out in 86.5 overs (Hopkins 53, Fulton 40, Broom 36, Mills 33, How 22; Varoda 5/34, Parmar 4/69); Baroda ? 168 all out in 48.3 overs (Shah 44, Vahora 23 n.o.; Nethula 4/44, McCullum 3/38, Arnel 2/22)

Hopefully Nethula carries this form into the state championship.

New Zealand Cricket - New Zealand A v India Cements, August 26

New Zealand A has closed its India campaign with an emphatic 146-run victory over a local side strong on international talent.

The 50-over match against India Cements in Chennai yesterday [Tuesday] saw New Zealand A score a commanding 347 for 8, then bundle the opposition out for 201.

The NZA innings was dominated by a 141-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Gareth Hopkins and Peter Fulton. Skipper Fulton made 89 from 79 balls, while Hopkins went on to top score with 94 from 77.

Other strong contributions came from opener Jamie How, 49, Brendon Diamanti, 22, and Aaron Redmond, batting down the order for a rapid 36 not out from 22 deliveries.

The New Zealanders quickly went on attack with the ball, with Shane Bond and Tim Southee taking early wickets to have India Cements at 66 for three. Prasanna and Badani put on 86 for the fourth wicket, but after Prasanna?s departure wickets fell steadily, and the side was all out for 201 in the 43rd over.

Diamanti was the most successful bowler, claiming three for 50 from his 10 overs. Bond, Southee and Kane Williamson took two wickets each.

The India Cements XI included several current or former India international players including seamers Lakshmipathy Balaji and Sudeep Tyagi, along with Hemang Badani and Subramaniam Badrinath.

Shane Bond 8 overs 2/18. Easily the best of the bowlers.
