New Zealand Domestic Season

Well with Styris going, we have Williamson ready to take his place in the ODI team so it's not too big a loss really

not really convinced, he hasn't been aggressive enough and has often got bogged down while batting, hopefully he gets better though.

i have feeling styris retired because he didn't get his wish to bat higher up in the order.

We're not really getting anything out of Williamson's bowling at the international level as well, Vettori was using the likes of Ryder ahead of him at the World Cup (IIRC).

I don't like Woodcock being there instead of Franklin.

Nicol, Flynn and Boult are new but I can understand them being there.

I guess the selectors see Watling as the next opener, seeing as McIntosh isn't there.

I don't really see too much wrong, I think its good Flynn has been given another crack not a big Franklin fan but I would have had him over both Oram and Woodcock any day. Theres really no way Woodcock should have made it, Astle would have been a better choice.

Lets just be thankful, Jamie How is NOT there! :D
He would have to go down as one of the worst World Cup selections ever in any sport.

It's good to see Nicol there, he deserves his opportunity after his domination of the OD competition last season.

I'm still not sure on Broom, he was just so far out of his depth previously at international level, hopefully he's been able to improve his game.

Problem with Broom in internationals is that he's been made to come in at 6-7 in ODIs, whereas he's been performing in FC cricket at 4.

Astle being in the contracts would have been very weird as his emerging players squad is the first time he's been in any NZ representative stuff. He's a good player but I don't think he would have been a good choice for a contract.

I think the selectors see Woodcock as a like-for-like replacement for Vettori...

Broom still had opportunities to occupy the crease when our top order collapsed, and he didn't really manage to do it very well.

Yeah, I don't think you can throw Astle in their straight away, even though he's probably a better prospect than Woodcock 2/3 years down the track. Remember they're based 100% on the players value over the next 12 months.

They see Broom as a test specialist now from what I've heard which is good. I think they want him to try and fit into that number 6 position

Yeah I guess I wan't really thinking of it that way and I suppose with Vettori gone in the ODIs now they are definitely going to need someone other than McCullum, but I really don't know about Woodcock. I suppose guys like Astle and Beard are young and their time will come though..

Wellington will have quite a formidable side this season.

Corey Anderson is moving to ND though :D
