New Zealand Domestic Season

Said he's going to show up for Cornwall first. I'd go and watch him play.

He's not in good form though. Only made 6 from 9 in the Wellington Legends XI v Canterbury Invitation XI game and then he got out to Stephen Fleming :p

Martin Crowe Is Back In Business!

Martin Crowe is planning to make a comeback to first class cricket at the young, sprightly age of 48! He needs 392 runs to reach the tally of 20,000 first class runs and may be that's what's motivated him.

"If Ganguly can make a comeback, if Shane Warne can continue bowling, why can't I play?", said Mr. Crowe.

The way the Kiwi batsmen are playing, he may just make it back to the test team! What more can I say?

weird. Will fix it

Oh it's because i merged it with a thread in cricket discussion but I merged it to Cricket Discussion instead of to the Domestic cricket subforum, where it was stickied.

Yea it's rather stupid not having tests in the two biggest cities.

I understand why they took tests away from Auckland and Christchurch because of the small crowds but I would like to have a Test in Auckland from time to time. It's cheaper to drive to Eden Park then Seddon Park in Hamilton :p

I disagree. The crowds in Auckland were straight up bigger than the likes of Napier and Dunedin. In proportion to the population bases yes they were much smaller, but I have no doubt that the total crowd for an Auckland test match would be double if not triple what we currently get elsewhere (outside Hamilton and Wellington). I'd also argue that Auckland could still draw a larger crowd than Hamilton.

The problem lies with NZC wanting to get tests away from Rugby Stadiums, which is fair enough, but it's a joke that Auckland doesn't have a test standard cricket oval, considering the amount of cricket grounds we have here.

The stadium looked empty though when matches were played in Auckland. Tests look much nicer when they're played with grass banks around the sides

I know, I'm not arguing that.

I was just responding to Iridium saying "I understand why they took tests away from Auckland and Christchurch because of the small crowds", because in fact we got larger crowds here than the likes of Dunedin and Napier, it's just that 1000 people around an oval looks a lot more attractive than 3000 people in a stadium.

Well small can be defined in various ways :p

Still reckon we need a test venue in Auckland though.

Small in comparison to the seating capacity of the stadium. All about the revenue. It costs money to host a game at big stadium and a large chunk of the money they get back comes from ticket sales. If a 42,000 seater stadium can only sell 3000 tickets, people aren't going to view it as commercially viable, despite 3000 being a decent crowd to you and I.

Interesting that Martin's there. He wasn't even getting a spot for ND and then he moves to Auckland and gets into NZ A. Aldridge is the most consistent bowler in NZ for the past few season. He's probably one of the best never to play for NZ.

Good to see Todd Astle and Derek de Boorder there though
