New Zealand Domestic Season

Maybe that was 5 in 6 balls, but 5 in an over?

I read in the paper yesterday that de Grandhomme scored 217* in one of the 50 over National Club Championship matches!

Here's the match report:

Howick Pakuranga (Auckland) 391/6 (C de Grandhomme 217*, D Grobbelaar 114) defeated University Grange (Otago) 303 (J Simpson 93, M Rutherford 80, D Winn 3-39, J Drinkall 3-53) by 88 runs.

Auckland's Howick Pakuranga smashed a tournament high 391 runs to claim a comfortable 88 run victory over Otago's University Grange. University Grange had everything going their way early after they elected to bowl first and with Jason Hynes and Tim O'Sullivan spearheading the attack had the Auckland side stretched at 67/5. But their hopes of a finals birth were dashed by a 298 run sixth wicket stand between Colin de Grandhomme (217*) and Donavon Grobbelaar (114). De Grandhomme ruthlessly smashed his way to an unbeaten 217 off just 124 balls including 12x4's and 17x6's and with Grobbelaar's 144 off 89 balls the Auckland side raced to a mammoth 391/6. In reply University Grange lost their openers early but a hard hitting 94 off 57 balls from Jesse Simpson and a useful 80 from captain Mitch Rutherford had University Grange in the hunt. But in the end the deficit was simply too large for the Otago side's lower order and University Grange were eventually dismissed for 303 handing Howick Pakuranga a place in the final.

17 sixes! Gee and I thought Watson's 15 was a lot. Any idea where that game was played?

Never been there and you live in Auckland. :p

Cornwall was the club I played for for like 10 years. Only actually the little kids and the seniors play at Cornwall Park though, from like 10 - 18 you never play there.

They definitely wouldn't of been big boundaries, especially since they were using three grounds there at once.

They have actually played some domestic cricket there in the past, I remember going to some of the Max Cricket matches there in the late 1990s/early 2000s.

IIRC it was Auckland Cricket's second option behind moving to Colin Maiden Park.

That would be great. It would probably help get more than five - ten people into our first class games as well.

Would be interesting. Should get Greatbatch back for the shorter stuff. He was smashing it in the charity games :p

My dad told me about it and I didn't think he was serious. It would be a crack up if he makes the black caps lol

I wouldn't mind seeing Greatbatch in a bit of the T20, why not give him a go in the HRV?? Heck, we will have him or Crowe they'd be miles better than our current lot :p
