New Zealand Domestic Season

Southee 156 off 130 and 4 for 16 on day one, that's got to be on of the greatest all-round performances on a day in the history of the game.

Southee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great game last night, the two experienced heads of Adams and Vincent were so cool under pressure. It was good to see a crowd of over 5000 as well, which must one of the biggest ever in New Zealand domestic cricket. I'm not really sure if Mustard was the right way to go with our international player. One fail with the bat is obviously not enough to judge him, but he's not going to be keeping so it seems strange to have brought him in since he made an absolute mess of a catch in the deep which luckily didn't cost us. None the less we've made a good start to our three-peat, especially since Bates, Guptill, McClenaghan, Munro, and Hira are weren't there (I know Hira no longer plays for Auckland, but I include him there because he was such a good performer for us).

Also Oram's been released from his NZC contract.

Good riddance to him, not quite sure what this means though why doesn't he just announce hes retired?

He's still going to play in T20 leagues like Styris, and I guess down the track if he's fit and in form he'll still be able to play for us in the occasional T20I, like Styris should be atm.

Are Central Districts the first team ever to play six specialist bowlers? Adam Milne batting at six, Nethula at seven... :facepalm

I'm surprised that they keep playing Jarvis, he's been getting smashed every match. Hopefully he gets some first class matches before he leaves for the West Indies tour.

Yeah, tbh he's just a waste of an overseas player when you look at the effect that some other overseas players are having, like Ryan ten Doeschate, Steven Croft, etc.

Our overseas player Mustard's been a real waste as well. His scores have been 0, 14, 97*, 0, 0, and 13. And in that 97* he scored his first 20 runs off like 30 balls, and at that stage the RRR had gone up to 15 runs an over for the last 8ish overs. Sure he came good and from his score it looked like he played a blinder, but at the end of the day his sluggish start meant that our middle order was coming out and having to slog from ball one. Mahmood should have just played for us again, instead of chasing the money to that rubbish Sydney team.

Two must win games down, two to go. Otago at home in the final are going to be a real test for us or Wellington, with nine wins in a row now.

I don't follow NZ cricket much but can anyone through light on the whereabouts of Adam Milne? He was touted as the next big thing and suddenly has disappeared from the international scene.

He's been in and out of his domestic team and the international team, because of a combination of injuries and form. He was meant to be going to South Africa for the one dayers, but he's injured again. He's got raw speed, but he still struggles for consistency.

I see. Hope he gets back fit again real soon. NZ wouldn't want another talented bowler spend most of the time on the doctor's table like Shane Bond did.

Otago Volts win the HRV Cup and qualify for the Champions League

Otago were the best team all season, so it's fair enough that they've gone on to win it. Now they've just got to hope that McCullum and Lee's IPL teams don't get to the CL. (Do they both still play for Kolkata?)

It was quite funny how bad Wellington's two international players were for the finals. They're both Australian journeymen who both have terrible T20 records. Sure they probably don't have much money to buy anyone good, but they must've been able to get some decent young player for not much, instead of two batsmen who have records of 21 @ 113 and 19 @ 114 respectively, and in their combined eight BBL innings' this season they had a highest score 12 not out.
