New Zealand tour of India (Sept-Oct 2016)

He is talking about Dhawal Kulkarni.

Who would you guys take in Raina's place

I think he should be given another opportunity because he has done well in the past and has age on his side. Indian wickets will suit him too

I would start the series with Kedar Jadhav as I mentioned in my previous post. He made a century in that Zimbabwe series and has performed well whenever he has been given chance. He also has a strong List A record. Of course he doesn't bowl so we don't have that off spin of Raina but Rohit can bowl if we really want part time off spin. Raina will always be good on Indian pitches or even abroad as long as he doesn't have to face extreme pace. When he is up against a bowler who can generate that extra pace, he looks absolutely clueless similar to Yuvraj.
Rohit
Rahane
Kohli
Pandey
Dhoni
Jadhav
Hardik/Akshar
Mishra
Umesh
Dhawal
Bumrah

This would be my team as I still feel Hardik's bowling is not good enough to be 3rd fast bowler. However, I feel that Dhoni will give him that responsibility and play only 2 fast bowlers alongside 2 spinners.

You are right. It slipped from my mind that Dhawan is injured.

Dhawal as you rightly pointed out is a pretty good new ball bowler so I don't mind his inclusion. However, bowling does look very short with selectors deciding to go with only 3 fast bowlers. If Bumrah has a bad day, death bowling can be a concern.

Yeah. You are right. If Bumrah has a bad day, then we will be doomed. Sran should have been given a chance as he was good in Zimbabwe tour.

Even I agree. Raina should be given another chance. He has got experience, he is good and he suits best for that position. Just hope he finds his form in this series.

You mean Kulkarni? Not Dhawan. Dhawan is just as bad in ODIs as he is bad in Tests
Sorry. I meant Dhawal. Not Dhawan. Typo mistake

^^True !

But I think Rishi fits the "mini Bhuvi" description more than Shikhar :spy

Just guessing at this point

Haha. Sorry. I meant to type Dhawal Kulkarni. But typed Dhawan instead.

Actually Rishi Dhawan's bowling is pretty ok, but his batting was bad in that Aussie tour. If he can improve his batting, then maybe he will be selected for Indian team.

I read somewhere that Sran is also injured (read in some comments in Cricinfo, I think).

Not a bad team. Although I wonder why does Jadeja need rest? He is too young and he's just a spinner who rushes through his overs in tests too. Good that Shami gets the break and Ashwin too. I am not sure what made the selectors pick Raina, though I want the guy to succeed somehow because I like him and his vibrant attitude. Sadly he hasnt done much. He should grab this and do something for himself.

This would be my team-

:bat:Rohit Sharma
:bat:Ajinkya Rahane
:bat:Virat Kohli
:bat:Manish Pandey
:bat:Suresh Raina
:wkb:MS Dhoni
:ar:Hardik Pandya / Axar Patel (depending on the pitch )
:bwl:Amit Mishra
:bwl:Umesh Yadav
:bwl:Jasprit Bumrah
:bwl:Dhawal Kulkarni

I am happy about Pandey's inclusion. He is the perfect fit for that position. I don't think anyone else will do the job better than him.

Hardik Pandya should be exposed as much as possible. We are going to England for 2017 Champions Trophy. And their pitch suits seam bowling all rounder more than spin bowling. So, he should be given more chance and hopefully he will improve over time.

Kedar Jadhav was excellent and he played well whenever he got chance. So, if Raina flops, he can be included as the series progresses. Even though I feel MSD won't drop Raina.

So the team selecting panel (new) have started their work and I'm very happy for Manish Pandey & Hardik Pandya. The team is absolutely perfect as a ODI team although there could've been couple of pacers more in the squad. Picking the spinners ahead of pacers gives a slight idea of pitch types which will be prepared for ODIs. The middle order seems solid with Pandey, Dhoni, Raina followed by Hardik or Axar. Atlast we'll get to see a full version of Rahane as a opener after a while. My lineup will be:

:bat:Rohit Sharma
:bat:Ajinkya Rahane
:bat:Virat Kohli
:bat:Manish Pandey
:ar:Suresh Raina/:bat:Kedar Jadav
:wkb:MS Dhoni
:ar:Hardik Pandya/:ar:Axar Patel
:bwl:Amit Mishra
:bwl:Umesh Yadav
:bwl:Dhawal Kulkarni
:bwl:Jasprit Bumrah

Kedar may warm the bench if he is opted against Raina. Axar should wait for Hardik to fail as Hardik is a medium pacer which can be helpful due to very thin seamer slot in the team.

:bat:Rohit Sharma

:ar:Suresh Raina/:bat:Kedar Jadav
:wkb:MS Dhoni

:bwl:Amit Mishra
:bwl:Umesh Yadav

:bwl:Jasprit Bumrah
I think that both Raina and Jadhav won't get a place.... MS Dhoni will come at no. 5 followed by Hardik and Axar

Dhoni won't rest Raina at any cost. Raina deserves an opportunity and I'm sure he'll get to play all the matches irrespective of pitch type and condition.

WOW Gambhir is 34+ eh. He will be on very thin ice here and will have to make a massive comeback to stake claim to the backup opener's position

I still don't understand what Raina did to deserve a place in the team.... He hadn't made any big scores in the domestic area, has he? For some reason I smell favortism....:(

Gambhir and Yadav in as predicted. India bats again

Apparently the pitch is cracks galore

Kane bhai is back

He hasn't done anything in domestic to get a slot in international, but we don't have any player who fits that position in playing XI. Yes, we should try out new players, but Raina is a good player. He has lost his form. But once he finds his form, he will be very handy for us. He can bowl, his fielding is excellent as well as running, he has age with him and he has experience. So, it wouldn't hurt to try him out again. But I feel we should not give another chance to him if he fails this series.
And yes, I think it's favouritism.

Rahane doesn't look too comfortable against the short ball.
