New Zealand tour of Sri Lanka, 2009

Bruce Martin

No thanks. He's been pretty bad lately (2-3 seasons). Nethula looks very promising indeed. I had the chance to see him up in Auckland earlier this year, he looks very promising. He did have his problems where he would bowl the odd short ball once an over, but when he got going he was very good.

He actually picked up four wickets the other day for NZ A. He's also a decent bat btw.

WHERE WHEN!!? I'm really jealous right now...

He went out in the middle in the Tea break to do some bowling (Kyle Mills did too, but who cares about him aye). They showed him briefly. He looked in great shape. Like a guy in his mid twenties. I'm his biggest fan...well one of them anyway. I really can't wait to see him in action again.

Bond, Butler, Mills, Vettori sounds like a nice bowling attack for the ODIs. Hope it performs as good as it looks.

Man Taylor's good. I hope he can go on for 100. He's easily our most consistent batter Vettori aside.

:laugh Prasads having a great game isn't he. He gets rid of our worst batsmen, the only player other then Murali capable of slowing NZ down. Then he gets whacked around by Guptill, and now his fielding has well shown not to be much better.

Oh no don't say that.

Dammit. Ryder was looking pretty good too. Really good bowling though.

Why have we sent out Jeetan Patel, there's six overs left?

Yeah, really dumb tactics. Have to say i'm not impressed by the captaincy/coaching staff atm. They're making bad decisions at tosses. This was a dumb decision. Team selections and tactics are also starting to bug me.

Here's a tip Jeetan. When your the nightwatchmen and your bowled a ball down the legside you leave it alone.

I'm joining with everything you said, he's my favourite player ever.

Taylor playing well. But this is really a massive innings for Brendon McCullum he needs to step up with the bat in the first innings of a test match for once in his life. Please don't even bring up his hundred against the Indians, I could of made a ton that game.

Couldn't agree more. Too often does McCullum make a 60-80 score in the second innings batting with the tail. He does look good today though.

Funny that. McCullum's 3 Test hundreds have all come in NZ's first innings, and he averages higher in the 1st innings...../stats

NZ are far too reliant on Ross Taylor, and to some extent Jesse Ryder. If neither of those make hundreds, then NZ are screwed basically. McIntosh isn't good enough, Guptill seems to get far too many starts without kicking on, Flynn's a very average cricketer, McCullum's far too inconsistent and Oram's Test career should have ended about 3 years ago. Vettori's capable of making some, but if there's no-one to stick with him from the top order, then he's basically fighting a lone battle at the end of an innings. I'd be worried about this batting line-up if I was a Kiwi fan.

Man. I wish we had a decent 1-2-3. Taylor and Ryder can't make all of our runs. Taylor and McCullum will need to make big scores tommorow, Taylor 150+.

Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and India. And in that Indian game Taylor made 150 and Ryder made 200. The innings was already set up. But I agree with everything else your've said, actually if you read the previous 3-4 pages we've been saying the same thing :laugh

Against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, and like I said he came out against the Indians with the score at 450 odd for 6. Just seems like he hasn't played a meaningful innings in far too long.

I think its all in his mindset. He's got the technique and he is so quick on his feet. The reason Gilchrist was so good at 7 and aggressive was he had 6 top class batters coming before him. Bmac has to change his mindset to bat time and put the bad balls away. I see that with Taylor now he's matured quite a bit from when he started. Was way too aggressive early on and now he's settled down. Same with Ryder to a lesser extent. I've never seen Bmac play a sustained long innings. He's just one of those players who likes to feel bat on ball.
