WE NEED TO STOP THE COLLAPSE: FLEMING

Kiwi captain Stephen Fleming has spoken of his teams defeat at the hands of Australia and has blamed it solely on New Zealand's dismal second innings. On a pitch which proved to be surprisingly good for batting the Kiwi's slumped to 10/240 after giving away crucial wickets in many attempts to lift the run rate.

"I think that our second innings really hurt our chances at the game". "If we had made 300+ it was easily heading for a win or at worst a draw. "The team needs to learn how to bat consistently for two innings and play the same kind of cricket we show in the first".

Fleming was also asked about his limited bowling resources in the first innings. "Yeah, the scorecard shows it, We had to rely to much on Oram and Astle". "Vettori and Martin were both showing signs of injury and Franklin bowled as much as he could." "Both of the players concerned will be right for the next match, as shown in the second so don't bother speculating" said Fleming immediately after revealing that Vettori and Martin were stuggling.

Australia now have a 1-0 lead in the series, If all goes to plan at Westpack stadium the visitors will have an unbeatable 2 nil advantage over their traditional rivals, New Zealand.

The second test starts soon...

MATCH PREVIEW: SECOND TEST AT WESTPAC STADIUM

This is virtually the deciding match of the series, If the Kiwis loose the Australians will have an unbeatable 2-0 lead. If New Zealand win or draw the contest is still alive. Both teams have made changes to their line-ups, with the Kiwis bringing in extra bowlers at the cost of a batsmen while the Australians have dropped a bowler and included a batsmen. The emotion is running high here, the homecrowd will use all it's voice to cheer their team to victory...

The Pitch

Another grassy wicket has been fielded for the second test. However if the pitch plays like it did last game, we could expect to see some good batting.

The Weather

Day 1, Overcast, Becoming fine, 22
Day 2, Fine and sunny, 26
Day 3, Fine, cloud inceasing, 23
Day 4, Possible thunderstorms, 18
Day 5, Overcast and rain, 20

Crowd's expected

Day 1, 36,433
Day 2, 36,162
Day 3, 33,714
Day 4, 18,922
Day 5, 26,895

Australia will be looking to secure the series here. They will come up against a spirited Kiwi team eager for revenge from the previous test. Whoever wins the toss will have a big advantage early but if the batting team can score anywhere near 250, they will have done very well against the odds...

The Toss

Ricky Ponting has won the toss and elected to field...

DIZZY STRIKES EARLY FOR AUSTRALIA

Jason Gillespie has continued his good form with the ball in this series by removing Papps for just 5. Dizzy drew Papps forward into a cover drive with an outswinger pitched just on off stump, the thin outside edge taken easily by Gilchrist. The out of form captain Stephen Fleming is next in?

S.Fleming 2(3)*
J.How 8(17)*
M.Papps 5(16)
NZ: 1/15 (6)

B.Lee 0/8 (3)
J.Gillespie 1/7 (3)

WARNE SPINS HIS MAGIC

Shane Warne has picked up his first wicket of the series on just the second ball of his spell. Jamie How tried to sweep a ball which was too full and straight to sweep. He played over the top of the ball and had his timber disturbed. This is another key breakthrough for the visitors?

N.Astle 1(3)*
S.Fleming 8(54)*
J.How 44(53)
NZ: 2/59 (21)

B.Lee 0/28 (10)
J.Gillespie 1/30 (10)
S.Warne 1/1 (1)
