the 4 pronged bowling attack seems to have worked for you with the quicks. while australia have struggled in the past i dont think 100 runs will be too much trouble for them. great story mate loving every minute of it

Aus: 0/23 (7)
Aus require 178 runs
10 wickets in hand

Summary: Australia have made their mind set clear relatively early in the innings, especially Phil Jaques. The young NSW opner ignored all opner protocol of seeing the new ball out. He instead decided to shuffle across to off stump and slog Chris Martin over the square leg boundary for six, Something which shows the way the match is heading...

EARLY STRIKE FOR THE KIWIS

The Tea break seems to have jolted New Zealand into action as they have picked up their first wicket on the first over of the new session. Justin Langer was trapped in front by a good yorker from James Franklin as he tried to play the ball through the on side. This is exactly the kind of start the Kiwis were hoping for...

JAQUES SCORES HIS FIFTY

Phil Jaques has done with the bat what Kasper and Dizzy did with the ball, demand selection for the next test. Jaques has played an irresistable and fiery innings including 2 sixes, the last to bring up his half century. Jaques has now set the stage for what looks like is going to be a huge win for the Aussies...

MARTIN CLAIMS HIS FIRST

Ricky Ponting has departed for 39 after being caught at second slip by Jamie How. Ponting tried to cover drive a full and wide delivery from Martin but only managed an outside edge which was taken down low by How. This brings a vital innings to an end but with the talented batting line up still to come, the game looks like it is heading the Aussie's way...

VETTORI STRIKES, AUSTRALIA LOOSE TWO FOR NO RUNS

The Kiwis have now been provided with a glimmer of hope after Phil Jaques was caught behind off the bowling of Daniel Vettori. Jaques was drawn forward into a cover drive but was beaten by playing against the spin and gave a thin outside edge to McCullum. Could the Kiwis still win the match?

The Australians have wrapped up the game easily and have taken a 1-0 lead in the 3 Test series. Damien Martyn again had a solid innings with the bat while Phil Jaques made his debut 50. All eyes now turn to the crucial second test, where the Aussie's have the chance to win the series...
