A good start to the session for New Zealand. They still have a difficult task ahead of them and must keep their concentration. Australia need early wickets to take advantage of the pitch?

pretty even start to the innings. australia just have more depth

KASPER CLAIMS ASTLE

Australia has found that early wicket they were hoping for. Michael Kasprowicz got a normal delivery to cut back into Astle. That ball went through his defences but not his off stump. Jacob Oram must now support Stephen Fleming and build a big partnership to stop the Aussie advance?

ORAM GONE CHEAPLY

The Kiwis troubles have worsened with the departure of Jacob Oram for just 12. Oram was drawn into a cover drive by a Lee off cutter and paid the price when he gave a simple outside edge to Ricky Ponting at second slip. One more wicket could see the Kiwis being knocked over for less then 200?

CAPTAIN PERFORMES UNDER PRESSURE

Stephen Fleming has broken through his bad form to complete a gruelling and hard fought 50. Fleming has had to play extremely defensively as his wicket is the one the Aussie?s are after. Fleming now needs to carry on and rescue his team from another embarrassing total?

FLEMING SKITTLED THE VERY NEXT BALL

Australia has made the critical breakthrough, the very next ball. Michael Kasprowicz was brought on to try and produce something for the visitors. Kasper bowled an absolute gem to force Fleming from the crease, The ball drew the Kiwi captain forward then cut in sharply, enough to beat the bat and rattle his off stump. This is just the piece of inspiration the Aussies were looking for?

NEW ZEALAND IN FUTHER TROUBLE

Brett Lee has again combined with his captain Ricky Ponting to make a crucial breakthrough for the Australians. Lee drew Daniel Vettori into a fierce cover drive that induced the outside edge which flew to Ponting at second slip. The Kiwis need at least another 50 runs to provide some sort of fighting chance?

Good bowling by the Aussies!

If Australia rack up a good score, they will win.

Honours of the day definitely go to Australia. However the two batsmen at the crease present a problem for the Aussies because if they can dig in and grind away the momentum of the game could swing towards the Kiwis?

KASPER ON THE MONEY

Michael Kasprowicz has again given Australia a most needed wicket coming into the second day of the second test. Kasper bowled a superb outswinger which was too good to resist having a crack at for Franklin. The swing created a thin nick which was taken by Gilchrist behind the stumps?

McCULLUM GONE

After another brilliant innings under pressure Brendan McCullum has finally been caught for 47. McCullum tried to drive a wide delivery from Gillespie but gave a thick outside edge to Phil Jaques at backward point. Australia will now be looking to wrap the innings up quickly?

WARNE STIKES AGAIN

Shane Warne has again chimed in with another wicket to have the Kiwis hanging on to the innings by a thread. Mason decided that he should attack Warne, not a good thing for a tail ender to do. He tried to slog a vicious cover drive over cover but ended up giving a faint outside edge to the keeper Gilchrist who is again proving why he is the best keeper in the world?

LAST WICKET GONE

Australia has wrapped up the innings with the wicket of Kyle Mills, who was caught in the slips by Shane Warne off Brett Lee's bowling. Australia now need to come out and take some runs off the total before the end of today...
