New Zealand's Tour Of India Aug-Sep 2012

MSD lap-dog on his way back to the pavillion. :p

P.S - I hope this didnt offend anyone since I referred to Raina that way

That's stumps, overall a decent day for us, would've liked to be 3 or 4 down, but I'll take it.

well deserved hundred there for pujara. Also a very decent day of play for india hope this two will build a good partnership between them tomorrow and take india's score to 400+

I really witnessed few glorious shots of cricket today, as Pujara was absolute classic guy at the crease. I got to see Sachin play a cover drive, which was a delight to watch.

The crowd eruption when Sehwag gets going is what you can get only when Sachin is entering the ground. At the end of the day, I'm happy that Virat Kohli and Pujara (the RCB boys) played superb cricket.

PS: Sachin Tendulkars entrance (only in test cricket) is something what you shouldn't miss. Its a once in a life time opportunity:).

If you felt that way about his entrance at Uppal, imagine what it would have been like to be in a packed stadium in Mumbai. :yes

As for the score- I'd take it anyday. 307-5 is a good effort, though I'd have like Gambhir to have gotten going as well. Expecting us to reach around 435 or odd by Tea time tomorrow.

Pujara might not have elegant shots like Dravid, might not have those wristy flicks like Laxman, might not be so talented like so called Rohit Sharma but He has Patience, Temperament that suits Test Cricket. This guy really deserves a long run in Indian Test Team.

Take a Bow Pujara !! Well Played Today..:cheers

If you felt that way about his entrance at Uppal, imagine what it would have been like to be in a packed stadium in Mumbai. :yes

Yeah.. also, I remember I watched a video which compiles his entrance both in Lords and Boxing day test, where he was greeted with huge waves by the entire stadium (even the Poms and Aussies)- it was something to appreciate:).

the indian team all of a sudden looks so different, and incredibly young considering it was the dad's army team of cricket not 6 months ago.

raina just doesn't look like he's ready for test cricket right now and continuing with him seems like flogging a dead horse.

handy ton from pujara though, still question marks about his ability against better bowling away from home but india should be happy they've found someone who is at least obvious test class. considering india are almost at square 1 with their test side they'll need guys who can be at least partly relied and they need to make sure they are at least secure at home before they start worrying about beating england, australia and south africa away from home.

Even though this is against New Zealand at home, this is a mighty significant ton from Pujara! SUPER DUPER TROOPER HAPPY!!!!!!:cheers:clap Have been a big fan of this guy since I started hearing about his exploits in domestic cricket, but unlike many others, this one has the temperament to translate his success into international cricket. That's what makes great players. And technique wise, you can definitely say that he is born to play test cricket.

Disappointed with Sachin. But it could be his rustiness again. Good knock by Kohli too. Looks like Kohli and Pujara have showed a glimpse today of what our future is going to look like. I see huge promise from the both of them. They remind me of Sachin and Dravid together. 307 is not a bad total. And Ashwin is still yet to come and bat (Ashwin has a test hundred very recently). Considering that these are home conditions, Dhoni should be capable of going beyond 50 or so. Hope he gives support to Pujara and helps India cross 400 tomorrow.

----------

Won't say a perfect Test line up for me. I'd certainly make some changes after Tendulkar. For me, it opens up 3 spots-Tendulkar, Dhoni & Raina.

But at the moment, 'The Foundation' [will go on to become a Wall later] is doing really very well. Just as expected, he has played well and is a technically supreme player.-ton on the way, maybe a 150 ?:yes

Wish he can go on for a double. If he gets company, he can bat long periods. 400-450 would be perfect for India on this pitch.

All those questioning Pujara at #3, both his best scores (72 and now 119*) have come at one down. He's not moving from there.:D

I am not worried about Pujara's abilities in stricter conditions. He has shown enough mettle in the West Indies. I just hope he is given a long run for our side, as he seems a handy enough prospect.

Raina-a lot has commented that the dismissal was unlucky. He shouldn't have been there in the first place. Stinky has rightly put it that he ain't ready for this level and one need not feel too bad about it. We have had some class batsmen in one form of the game who could not replicate their forms in other formats. Justin Langer,Jonathan Trott, Strauss all have been good Test match players, who could not really make it in the ODIs. On the other hand, a Micheal Bevan did so well in ODIs, but struggled to hold onto to a permanent place in the Test side.

This is where either a Badrinath or a Kaif can be handy for us. Tad above the age of 30, both could act as what Mike Hussey has been doing for the Aussies. There is no doubt in the ability of both of them. Yes, I have been defending Kaif for the post, but I feel that Badrinath will be a wiser choice.

Badrinath is a CSK player too, so the argument of Dhoni favoring a CSK player wont hold in front of Badri. I guess Raina was picked because he was the first choice. I would blame it on the selectors. How did Raina get ahead of Badri when it came to test selection? Based on Raina's recent ODI form against Sri Lanka? Is that a criteria for test selection? Yes Raina said he wanted to play tests for India. Does it mean he is given a test spot on a platter?

One thing I like about Raina is his positive vibrant attitude and determination. If he is given lot of chances in tests, you can believe in him to improve as he plays more and overcome his problems. But the matter to think is whether we should waste that much time on him just because we know he will improve at some point in time. In a country that has abundant talent, why should we spend so much on one player and wait for him to improve?

I seriously do not see the likes of Badrinath and Kaif getting opportunities for India, sad, but it's the truth. I see them as people who were born in the wrong era, an era where they didn't get their chance when they should've.

And let's be honest here, we really didn't need them when they were 'young', we had a solid batting lineup with the likes of Sehwag, Dravid, Tendulkar, Laxman and Ganguly, the only open slots were specialist slots, opener and keeper.

I'm not saying they don't deserve an opportunity now, I just don't see it happening.

Fair point, but its a common case in India- remember the former Mumbai captain Amol Muzumdar ? :noway

It really is, Kaif and Badrinath should've been tried out right when Ganguly retired back in '08, they were what 27 then? But nawh, we were too busy giving Yuvraj Singh chances, it just makes me sick how players get into our Test team, they do well in ODIs, they get chances in Tests.

Going back to what Sai said, name one player other than Pujara who made his Test debut without already playing for our One Day side, you can't, 'cus most of our guys get in with their One Day performances, not their FC performances.
