ODI Tri-Series (Malaysia)

I just don't get it. They're willing to have Watson opening, rather than Haddin who has centuries doing it for NSW?
The trouble is finding spots where the batsmen are productive. Haddin doesn't mind batting at the end and it seems to be working for him down there, but Watson's never looked comfortable lower than 6.

bracken isnt quality...... katich bashers obviously dont have a clue, there has to be someone who bats slowly, and hes that someone. Otherwise you would risk being all out for 20

Bracken is a good ODI bowler because he is accurate and swings it a little. Ther eis nothing wrong with him.

Morton has an excuse, his team were in worse position and he is younger and more inexperianced.

Youj have to wonder if there was anywhere else this game could have been played. Why wasn't their two pitches.

Oh well, the odd pitch like this one is good once in a while, maybe not so much in a final but even so. It will show the better team and Symonds and Martyn have experiance and skill and went well.

And McGrath and Lee aren't quality either?

It's okay for someone to bat slow but not THAT slow, especially in a one-dayer and especially also when you go into the game with an extra batsman!

Hayden would've played more safely and still would've had a strike-rate of 70-80 and probably would've made more runs also. Instead of getting 240, they could've gotten 290.

Give him a break! Sure he had a bad day with the bat but it's no reason to stick the boot into him over one innings. He was consistent in South Africa without being incredibly slow and provided a steady partner for Gilly to work with. You can't call for someone's head just because of one bad game, sure with the benefit of hindsight Hayden might have been a better option but who knows? He could have gone for a golden and left us at 1/0.

How many times have I seen this on cricinfo commentary

"rapped on the pad" It's like the ball just isn't comming onto the bat. Probably true.

I think katich was trying to do a lot of that. These are situations where you need to adapt to conditions and find ways of at least getting singles.

I just don't understand why from Martyn downward had no problem strike rate wise or scoring wise.

WI arn't taking advantage of their powerplays and can't because of wickets.

The Toss was a goodie to win and now the WI have to somehow score at 6.29 for 31 overs with McGrath, Lee, Bracken attack. You can kind of see why they took the extra batsmen over Hogg. They would have known conditons wouldn't have been flash.

Now, I wonder how Watson and Symonds will go. There are no other bowlers, just part timers. At least the Aussies probably won't need a 6th.

It isn't 1 bad game, theres been a few recently. With players like Jacques, Cosgrove, Hayden missing out, you just sense that its wasted talent with Katich playing. Sure, he gets his share of fiftys, but then gives his wicket away. He is the kind of person you want to stay in for the majority of the game. After all that time getting in, 25 isn't good enough. Mind you, 32 balls for 0 runs from Morton is also poor. Conditions were bad, but batsmen need to find ways of scoring in tough situations and concentrate.

The Aussies ended up getting a decent score, so I guess he deserves to be forgiven.

The problem with Katich is that he's forever getting in and not very good at picking gaps for singles. Attacking batsmen are usually good runners, or failing that, good enough with their wrists to beat fielders. Katich does the defend job ok, but he gets out because even after 60 balls, he hasn't hit the ball well enough to feel "in"

In South Africa? That's why in one ininngs it took him over 25 balls to get off the mark.

I'm not calling for his head after 1 innings, I solely believe that Hayden is ulimately better then Katich and should've never replaced him in the first place.

West Indies are losing wickets and all playing extremely slowly as well. I expect Australia to finish them off soon.

Katich had a reasonable series in South Africa (admittedly after a poor start)

2 (14)
16 (48) (Australia got rattled for 93 this game)
49 (80)
46 (68)
79 (90)
Avg: 38.4

Now there are definitely other options which could be tried out (Jaques, Cosgrove and Hayden) and which would probably work well. All I am trying to prove here is that Katich is not half as bad as some of you are making him out to be.

Australia are killing the Windies in the current game, 57/6.
