Draft: One Track Bully Draft

Joe Root
@Yash. your turn, plus please update the list if you can

Angelo Mathews comes into my side, who has over a thousand runs at an average of 88, with 3 100s. Pretty handy stuff.

@Na Maloom Afraad

Also funny to see the very different approaches here - you've gone legends who happened to do well in SA, whereas I've gone for (relatively) niche players who have done confusingly well in NZ.
It's 50/50 tbh - I am going to pick half of my team with players who only did well in a few matches, niche names or not. But I did want a strong enough core to support them and that's why I went with legends who stood out on South African pitches, to make up for their inevitable failures in this hypothetical scenario.

Barry Richards. A very obvious pick tbh. Also my third local. Highest Test batting average for a South African in South Africa.

"A talent of such enormous stature that he once batted (and did well) using only the leading edge in a Durban club match, Richards was forced by South Africa's sporting isolation to play elsewhere, thrilling spectators with his nimble, aggressive strokeplay for Hampshire, Natal and South Australia, and in Kerry Packer's World Series Cricket. There were many feats of remarkable batsmanship from one of the finest talents of the 20th century, including nine hundreds before lunch and 1000 runs in a season 15 times. But South Africans will never forget the Durban Test of 1969-70, when Richards and Graeme Pollock flayed the Australian attack to all parts of the Kingsmead ground." - ESPNCricinfo

Ken Barrington scored 674 runs @96.28 in India and in general was a great bat that isnt brought up in the best English bats of all time conversation enough. He averaged 69 away from home in 36 matches and I think NMA might have had him on his radar, he did average 101.60 in SA after all

@Mittal2002 back to you
I was planning my team yesterday, my plan was to have 4 local Australian players and one player per country to finish the rest. I was really happy with my team only to realize I am missing a wicket keeper... Back to the drawing board.

Dale Steyn has 26 wickets @ 21.38 in India at a strike rate of 37. If an Indian pitch does provide some seam movement that it does occasionally, Steyn is one of the best equipped for the job to bundle the opposition.

I did! But, since I could only have one player per country (non-South African), I chose to go with Sydney Barnes instead of Ken Barrington. Had plenty of local and other options for batters, but not too many for bowlers.

I was also stuck between two options with [REDACTED] and Dale Steyn, being unable to pick one over the other, but you've made that decision much easier for me now too. :cheers

Of course he had to go in at number seven in this team. Brendon McCullum averaged 47.88 in New Zealand, with eight centuries and a best of 302. He's also my team's acrobatic wicket-keeper, and a captaincy candidate. Really an automatic pick.
