Draft: Pakistan All-Time Test XI Draft

I shall pick :pak::bwl:Abdur Rehman, the forgotten man behind the early success of Misbah's twin spin strategy in the UAE. He formed a vital partnership with Ajmal, offering consistent left arm orthodox spin deliveries with the ball to complement the latter's mystery. A fairly straightforward role for him then given that we already have a legendary mystery spinner in Qadir with whom he can strike a fruitful partnership.

My next pick is Junaid Khan, who was Pakistan's best fast bowler in the early and mid-2010s. His stats tell you that he’s taken 71 wickets in 22 matches at an average of 31. What they don’t tell you is that he played only one match in SENA countries or the West Indies. In the period Pakistan played in the UAE, only the freakishly good Mohammad Abbas (and Anderson and Broad, who have played less matches) have a better record among fast bowlers than him. It can be deduced that he would have had a much better record if he got to play in more favourable conditions from time to time.

Ahmad94's Test XI:

1. :pak::bat: Aamer Sohail
2. :pak::bat: Ahmed Shehzad
3.
4. :pak: :bat: Zaheer Abbas
5. :pak: :bat: Fawad Alam
6. :pak: :bat: Asad Shafiq
7. :pak: :wk: Kamran Akmal
8.
9. :pak: :bwl: Saeed Ajmal
10.
11. :pak: :bwl: Mohammad Asif

A bit of stupid pick for some - but Ahmed Shehzad. Fallen from grace and off the radar for some due to his ODI and T20 form - but he does average 40 + in both First Class and Test Cricket. Plus, Pakistan has always failed to start proactively against side - imagine Aamer Sohail and Ahmed Shehzad.

:pak: :wkb: Taslim Arif

Test stats - 501 runs @ 62.62 (1 century, best 210*) and 9 dismissals (6 ct, 3 st) in 6 matches
First-class stats - 7,568 runs @ 33.63 (13 centuries, best 210*) and 368 dismissals (312 ct, 56 st) in 148 matches

It's a very small sample size, but Taslim Arif has the highest batting average of any Pakistani top-order batsman. He also did the majority of it while wicket-keeping, although I've not really decided whether I'm going to give him the gloves yet or if I'll use him as a specialist batsman and partnership-breaking medium-pacer. That will depend on who else I get in the next couple of rounds.
