Is Mahmood the best choice you guys have left. He wasn't very impressive against SRL.

BTW, for those who haven't noticed the new ICC rankings, Pakistan has moved comfortably into the second spot, 7 points ahead of England. :D

:happy :happy :happy

Damn! But I have to say, you deserve it.

My team:

Trescothick
Strauss
Bell
Cook
Pietersen
Collingwood
G Jones
Plunkett
Hoggard
Harmison
Panesar

If Hoggard's not fit, go for Jon Lewis

I don't think Lewis is that good for Test Cricket; although Mahmood isn't that good either, he does have pace which can always be a threat. I tought he did better in the test series anyway. Would be nice if both Hoggard and Harmison play so they can share the new ball again.

Bell and Cook the other way round for me.

People go on about how Jon Lewis shouldn't play, but I don't see many suggestions for who they think should play, so why don't you give us your suggestions now?

@ Everton fan - there is no point in having pace if you don't have control, it just means the ball disappears to the boundary quicker, just look at the ODI series.

I know he didn't have contol in the ODI series, but neither did Harmison, and no one wants him out of the side. In that third test, Lewis looked out of his depth in the second innings, whereas Mahmood, although not that accurate, picked up wickets, and often when he picked up a wicket, he picked up another after it.

The difference with Harmison and Mahmood is Harmison actually bowled very, very well at times during the ODI's, whereas Mahmood was shocking just about all the time. The economy rates for that series tell a story (as well as the averages and wickets taken) Harmison went at 5.72 (which was under 5 before the 5th ODI) and Mahmood went at 8.23.

Yeah I suppose you are right, but I still stand by with my point; Mahmood over Lewis.

He bowled ok in the tests vs Sri Lanka, haven't a clue what happened to him in the ODIs, he'll learn from it though. If Hoggy doesn't play then I'd play Lewis, it's almost like for like.

I'd personally bat first and try to bat till Friday evening and then give our bowlers a few overs before the end to grab a wicket or too, it also allows some time for Hoggys hand to heal more.

Agreed. I think we need an opening stand of 100; Strauss needs runs, he needs them badly.

I also sense a hundred for Belly too, and a good comenack for Harmy. I hope i'm not just being optimistic this time.

Hoggard can hold up an end for a long time if he has someone at the other end who can bat a bit.
